I'm retired and this is the only reason why I am moving my 401k money out of TSP. I'm doing a conversion every year. If I could do it in TSP, I would leave it there.

Same. Pulled it out completely after 59.5 so I can benefit from all investment options.

@@susan6336 I haven't pulled out completely yet. I'm still making a lot in TSP. I have always had my money in the C and S funds which make the most. I'm only moving out the amount I'm converting to Roth each year.

Can you do a video about TSP and dividend? Why don't TSP pay dividend like every other index, ETF, etc especially if the TSP savings are being invested on dividend paying stocks?

Great question. Although you do not receive dividends directly, the stocks that the TSP is invested may entail stock dividends. These are reinvested into the TSP.

I have all $$$ in TSP traditional--with 3 years left to retirement (FRA) I think its best to just leave it alone and not try and move here and there--going to have to pay the tax man either way. Or I may start pulling it out at retirement and wait till 70 to start collecting SS--lots of choices for sure.

One aspect of moving money out of the TSP into a Roth, if you’re married: The TSP is essentially a JOINT account, whereas the IRAs are INDIVIDUAL. If you’re the Fed, you can only transfer into your own IRA, not your spouse’s.

Everyone who sees this. Send an email to the TSP folks asking that they provide a way to do Roth conversions in the TSP. Might not happen in time for me, but maybe for younger employees.

@@1Mannco , I’d rather stay in the TSP if possible, but if I can’t do conversions in there I will take out $30k - $40 key extra a year and convert to ROTH.

So what happens if you are 100% Roth TSP and take a loan out that has money from traditional TSP, when you repay it where does the money go?

Good question. Whenever you take out a TSP loan and repay it, the money would go back into the fund that you took it from.
