My wife and I wanted to do a half marathon this year but the closest was over 200km away and we’re quite busy with our 5 kids. I organized a half marathon right from our house. Non-stop elevations changes, 50km/h winds, rain most of the run until it turned to snow, and it was awesome. Wasn’t about speed, more about finishing. I even made custom medals for the whole group that ran with us. Was a blast!

Well done Elema. I know not the result you were after but you finished the race with the added pressure of Mo with camera on you! Your PB is about the same as mine and I too am targeting a sub 1hour 50min HM. Just debating whether to try that in the next couple of weeks at a local small event or wait til the new year.

Great effort, Elena! Have never run a half marathon in race conditions, just did 2 half accidentally while bumbling around on lovely trails taking pictures and running out of food and water (but very close to civilisation). I've seen a breakthrough in my aerobic base and pace when I took the TRC advices on "how to run a fast 10 k" to heart, dropped my weekly half-a$$ed 1h15min "10 km longjogs" in favour of actual 14/15/16/17/18/19 km "zone 2" longruns (2h30min) with lots of hills, adding 1 km each week but never more. The usual speedy parkruns and intervals are weekly givens. Good luck on your next one, Elena!

I'm from Europe and I've signed up for the Chicago Marathon for next year as my first marathon. I don't have a qualifying time (given it's my first marathon), so I am hoping the lottery will give me luck, but if not I'll either go with one of the travel-sites that have guaranteed spots, or just stay in Europe and run Amsterdam instead, which is around the same time (and a bit closer). I've done a couple of shorter races (5k, half mile and 10k) and in training have done HM distance a few times, but that was 3 years back. I had to decide between two sports back then, and chose the other (which also takes a lot of time). I got injured 4 weeks back, so had to stop that sport temporarily, so instead of sitting at home I picked up running again, which was still possible despite that injury. My Garmin watch has given me daily running workouts and thanks to those I've fallen back in love with running and now have to figure out a way to just make time for both sports moving forward.

I'm doing my second half marathon on American Thanksgiving! I did my first one in 2016, took a long break, and started training 4 months ago. I'm going for a similar time range as Elena's goal (though I'd be extremely happy with her finish time too, my last one was 2:06 so that'd still be a massive PB for me!), wish me luck 😁

The running doesn't stop, next destination: Barcelona Half, let's gooooo

I did my first 1/2 (in 14 years) back in March after ~5 months of steady running practice, and surprised myself with a 1:58. Then ran another one this past October, 1:48. I'm not sure if i can get much faster than that, as I'm pushing 50 (next month, actually), but you never know. Keep on keeping on!

Well done guys. It's great to see the "real" side of running where sometimes you set a goal, realise it's not the day for it, so you adjust your view of what you want to get out of it. It wouldn't be good for anyone to see 100% success all the time because it will set us back when it doesn't work for us, and will make us wonder why. Currently I could only dream of doing a sub 2hr half, but one day, one day! Thanks guys, another insipring TRC video!
