You don't realize how infinitely lucky you are that the long water pump bolts didn't break!! At least one ALWAYS breaks. Corrosion from poorly maintained cooling system eats them up. You're one lucky soul!!

Can't say I've ever seen a cam bearing failure before that didn't also involve a rod and or main failure, I wonder if you have a clogged oil passage or a missing oil gallery plug?

I think IF a cam bearing is missing you would not have good oil pressure?

Too bad it isnt a later engine. They have bosses that you can drill out and put in the spider for roller lifters. Most all of the tbi engines are roller came. Remind me to delete my tbi and go nuts with aftermarket heads and a fat magnum cam

Or you can just get link bar lifters, those stock roller lifters that take a spider are usually hydraulic lifters anyway. Get yourself a set of solid roller link bar lifters and run them on a hydraulic roller cam, you will get better performance with the long life of a less aggressive profile cam. Sold roller cams tend to have extremely fast ramps and will beat your valvetrain up really quickly. Running a slower opening hydraulic roller cam with solid lifters gives you the best of both worlds.
