Those were definitely some great finds. The one thing I’d caution people on is not using the bike beyond its intended purpose. Most of those are MTB style bikes not meant to be ridden on dirt. I’ve actually seen one fall apart on a ride and it was kind of scary.

With experience in jumping and the basics of riding a bike I grew out of this bike in 3 months and ended up buying a 1500 dollar hardtale that was much more fit and durable for jumping and tougher trails. Overall this video is 100% truthful and has awesome advice for beginners 👍

Glad you mentioned the issue with the box store bikes, and the bike rental. Bike rentals are affordable and a great option to enter the sport. Especially because they will be serviced by an experienced mechanic. Better to save up and buy the right bike for you than to purchase something you can afford immediately and be disappointed.

Evan, Great content as usual. I'd like to see a part 2 where you level up your skills on a budget bike but only from beginner to intermediate initially and see what parts start to break on that thing. I picked up that Schwinn Taff Comp deal too. It's pretty good for the price and it is at least upgradable with higher quality parts. Mine had some big issues, the biggest being the dish of the rear wheel. By the end of a 2 mile loop it was rubbing against the chainstay. However, a few minutes with a spoke wrench and it was better. Still, the repairs this bike needs out of the box and it may not be the best choice for a beginner.

Amazing! I would not have even considered that it was possible to get a whole setup for $300. From some comments, it does sound like the parts are so sub-standard that the bike would not last long on rough trails. How about the NEXT step up in quality where the bike would stay together for a whole season of at least medium level trails. I have no issues with buying used, but that can be tricky.

Great advice, I used to BMX as a kid and bought a Trek Marlin 6 without thinking about the fact that I was already past that point in my progression of riding. Sure i hadn't really rode a bike hardly at all in 20 years but all of the skills were still there and I am wanting to ride trails that are honestly just dangerous on a hard tail because the chunk throws the rear tire in the air without suspension and you can't manual through it because the chunk is always in a super deep braking section right before a sharp 90 degree or a switch back. The trail closest to my house requires a very high level of skill, I would say the greens are realistically blues and the blues are blacks and the actual blacks feel like you are doing stuff that is too dangerous for people at Whistler. I really regret not saving more money and buying a full suspension from the start, instead I have to spend twice. The only positive of this is I have a bike I can ride around paved bike trails even though it isn't that great at that either as it is a 1x drive train without enough gears and I need to switch tires for lower rolling resistance.

Ahahaha I've got 2 of these Schwinn Taff Comp bikes that I've got for $124 a month ago, though it is a great deal. They are total crap due to Prorush 8 speed freewheel and LTwooo 8S not working well with each other. Can't make shift good not matter what you do. Tried both limit screw, B screw, chain adjustment for days - nope, still shift worse than the cheapest $10 Shimano jumping gears and making horrible noise in the rear. Both have bent rear axles from factory - 141 QR boost wheel with freewheel has a super long axle and Schwinn uses bottom of the barrel junk parts. Schwinn sent me new freewheels and rear wheels to fix this bloody mess, but new axle got bent right away. Horrible brakes, horrible front crank. Frame is the only good thing on this bike, I have a bunch of spare parts from other bikes so had to replace everything to make it work - rear wheels, cassettes, shifter, crank, brakes. If I had to pay for parts it would be $250 extra to spend to make these defective junky bikes ridable

Im not sure 😞 all I was told was to say "code EVANSMTB40 for $40 off orders of $200"
@agrsk8r Жыл бұрын
@@EvansMTBSaga it's not your code specifically. I tried another channel's code as well with the same results. Maybe it's because there isn't as much mark-up on new items.

That was impressive granted I went with a used trek Marlin I think almost 6 years ago to start out and found out I actually love mtb. But that was my gateway bike and I now I’ve upgraded but I keep it pretty simple and don’t go overboard. I actually ride my bike and it’s not a carpet queen. But yes you usually get what you pay for but you don’t need thousands of dollars to have fun

I did it with 300 of my own cash from a summer job, ( but it the UK we don't have Walmart cheap bikes) so I got a serious Rockville disc £200, Nukeproof pads £20, and leatt skid lid also £20. And also... Is that Schwinn really under 300!!!!

ehh i got a 2018 pitch in pretty good condition with a upgraded fork for 240? and a ks dropper with a lever and its been pretty decent. it is a waiting game a bit but it shouldnt take you more than a week or two to find a few decent options. but the new bike for under 160 is good.

I love your videos this is not a bad budget for starting mountain biking but you can’t get very reliable parts.
