Can I Take On Starsector With Just Frigates? 1-100 Frigate Challenge!

Hello Everyone and welcome to Starsector I have decided to do a challenge video where I am only allowed to use frigates In Starsector. I attempt to see if I can get up to 100 of them in a battle in one time and survive in a hostile galaxy.
This is not something I normally do if you like this style of content over raw gameplay let me know I can do more things like this in the future :)

If you plan to do new series of Starsector, you should try "Nexerelin"+"Underworld" mods. This combination will add a new start - "Infernal Machine". You get a unique upgradable flagship and a task to restore it to its former glory. I think you will love piloting it =)

@@ThreatX 2 x burst pd lasers in alternating mode + built in expanded mags works well on the omen. alternatively 1 antimatter blaster or some other burst weapon if game is modded

A fleet can never have enough frigates. Were I to die at this moment, 'want of frigates!' would be stamped upon my heart.

When you are chasing a fleet, you can dispatch frigates from the top left and right of the combat zone, to catch fleeing ships easier. Double and triple clicking on the ships in the dispatch window will let you do it. Also, on the topic of numbers, I believe the sweet spot for a fleet is 20 frigates to be wings for a couple of large ship front...

I just love your Starsector content, I know you feel like your longform series don't do too well, it just feels like you end most your series in this game just when the empire building starts and it would be interesting seeing more of the end endgame with lots of mods if you like to make it more spicy, Thanks for the content as always!

That huge capital ship you fought around 16:00 is the Invictus, and its armour is way sillier than you realised. In the vanilla game, its baseline armour value is just short of 4x the maximum possible armour any other playable ship can get. It's got its own unique hullmod though, and that results in it having one of the lowest effective armour ratings of any capital ship, but its armour can survive for 10x as long as another ship with the same armour rating. Against non-armour-focused and/or non-capital-focused weapons, it's by far the toughest ship to deal meaningful damage to, but against anti-capital weapons, it's only a little tougher than the more conventionally tanky ships.

Ahhh nothing like a fine frigate spam first thing in the morning. You definitely want to go aggressive over steady with wolfpack tactics though. That's why your ships are being so conservative with the reapers.

A true Golden Horde, Genghis Khan would be proud and awesome to see that the game can still handle the ships' AI behaviour. I bet the amount of micro-managing such a fleet required was absolutely maddening. 27:10 two random out of fuel Athropos(?) torpedoes just floating past the station and nearly ending you immediately, luckily only one actually hit and the other caused mere splash damage :D 48:08 You deployed 104 vessels and only lost 24 in battle, impressive! Now I kind of want to see what 400 DP worth of capitals would be, is that about 10 Conquest-battlecruisers?

Ooh are you going mostly high tech or a mix? I really like the tempest, omen, scarab and lastly the wolf. But the Brawler, Monitor, Vanguard, Vigilance and Lasher is also nice. So much choice! Support Doctrine would be awesome because you'll have a lot of ships without an officer. Electronic Warfare may be low-key awesome because 1% ECM rate per ship when you have like 30 frigates would be something else.

As a fan of the Wayfarer, it's a fun early game ship if you're after a decent bit of cargo space on a vaguely combat-ready ship in the early game. But even as a fan, I wouldn't spend a story point to grab one with a stack of d-mods like that xD so yeah, good call regardless of how much you like that ship, imo. The brawler's much more useful for what you're doing too.

Now I have watched the full video, I have to say I am surprised that your CPU didn't melt. You had 104 frigates in the Star Fortress battle at the end, it was a spectacular battle. I wouldn't do this, I play the game differently now, having played without editing files for years. I now edit quite a few things, especially the amount of S-Mods allowed on each ship to 99. Can you imagine how much time it would take to add all the hull mods to over 100 frigates? Anyway, you should do a Phase Ship only playthrough series, and I recommend No Such Org faction mod for it.@@ThreatX

Hey if you want a fun and a bit silly game. You should try a play-through with the Halo UNSC mod and the updated version made by Stargazer in the thread. It is some much fun to MAC barrage a shielded capital and watch it overload.

The TT Brawler may be the prettiest variant, but nothing beats the LP Brawler! Built in SO + Assault Chainguns + AAF = mass destruction. The Pirate Afflictor is great with both a proper pilot and the fleet-wide skill Phase Coil Tuning, but of questionable worth without either one. I'd probably put two light needlers on there to help with shield busting. The regular Afflictor is awesome with a bunch of AM blasters though. My favorite ship to pilot by far. The Wayfarer has the highest cargo capacity for a frigate at 150, which is high enough to get bonus capacity with expanded cargo holds. BUT you also have to pay 5 supplies/mo for upkeep versus 3/mo for Shepherds, which have 100 capacity. So 5 Shepherds gives you more cargo capacity than 3 Wayfarers for the same upkeep. BUT if the fuel usage was the primary issue, 5 Shepherds uses more than 3 Wayfarers, so I guess it depends on what you want to optimize.

You should try the Diktat Enhancement mod at some point; adds a bunch more ships, weapons, and full story quest lines and such to DE, you can pick between supporting the more corporate or more criminal sides, etc.

And yeah, frigate fleets, even with max boost to combat time, you'll need basically two full fleets, cycle the first out when CR runs low.

Also, yeah, limited ammo missiles are very situational. You cannot tell your NPC AI fleet buddies to *not* do stupid things with them, and they'll happily unload torps into dense PD grids and shields until the racks are empty and now you have half a ship's firepower at best. I tend to prefer the unlimited ammo versions, which are mostly from mods. They tend to be lower damage and DPS, but more reliable and constant vs. big damage or nothing on something like reapers or hammer barrage or the like. Or, of course, ships with Missile Autoforge like the Gryphon. Gryphon is, potentially, one of the single deadliest ships in vanilla for this reason.

I love this kind of edited fun stuff would be great extra content for channel. You should do a nexrellin mod and ruthless sector mod run. Use the larger galaxy mod and increase remnants, also add in the hmi, hiver, PRV, Roider Union, Junk Yard Dogs, and imperium factions for variety. Finally you can only use ships you make yourself or kill and recover… would be a fun long term playthrough

If you want Lightning, there is the Tesla Coil from the super weapons mod. Its a medium slot point defense that is a omen on steroids.

@@ThreatX yeah, their main weaknesses are high deployment cost (15 I think) and very low combat readiness. But with ion pulsers and 360 degree shields they are deadly, but I think the AI is not really optimized to exploit as well as others ships.
