2:30:45 The kilowatt-hour is a real unit but it's written as kWh, not kW/h. Basically if you have something that requires 1kW of power and you leave it running for one hour then it's used 1 kWh of energy. Edit: Okay, that's actually pointed out at about 4 hours in.

As a technician, I appreciate the specificity. Especially if you try to do conversions, getting units right is a big deal.

as a boring grumpy old man, kWh mildly irritate me because we already have a unit for energy which is used in the definition of kW. It's like batteries measured in mAh when Coulomb's exist. It's irrational, I understand the utility but LORD it gets under my skin that these are the conventions we've settled on. Would be like if we defined a unit of speed to be the zoom which is one metre per second and then decided to measure distance in zoom hours.

Some tips: The rooms and doors are relatively cheap, but are really easy to find and IMO a great way to prevent running out of oxygen early game. I build a bunch spiderwebbing out from my base so no matter where I go I can travel safely. I also put wind turbines for those I put water in(W for wind and water) and solar panels for those with food(food growers are best since then you don't need to worry about replacing it). This makes those way less of a concern too(since any time you're running low you can just run to the nearest and top up). Late game it's not an issue, but early-mid game it's convenient.

The way the power works for the for some things and not others makes perfect sense (aside from animating the power plants as offline). If you don't have enough power to run everything, prioritize power to getting more power. That means your crafting stations and teleporters need to still work, while all the terraforming stuff can shut down for a while without major issue.

A quick tip just to get the food grower unlocked abit faster as while there is plenty of space food around in boxes its useful to start to grow your own food. In i think every golden crate there should be a golden seed that can be used in the Vegetubes that boost oxygen generation by 600% and the food grower is in the oxygen unlock row. There are 3 golden crates close to the starting location, 1 being ontop of the wreck closest to the pod and if u walk around the wreck u should be able to get ontop of it. a 2nd crate is in the opposite direction under some large rocks that are in what looks like a large ditch and the 3rd is behind 1 of the strange white pillars that u should se once u are close to the 2nd crate. There is also a very small wreck with a few blue crates in it close to the 3rd golden crate so if u se that wreck u are close to the last golden crate. Even just 1 600% seed is enough but if u get all 3 early on that food grower will unlock very fast.

"Better than a kick in the balls." he says as he's needlessly maimed himself by wasting all of his beginning iron on stairs to no where. This game follows the same crux as every other crafting survival game out there. What you start with becomes so mundane you start ignoring them and throwing that resource away, only to need ALL of it later on. Restarting again only makes it more difficult because then you're just a greedy hoarder because YOU KNOW that 3 unlocks later you'll need all of that magnesium and silicon, but there's absolutely no reason for you to be hanging onto 9 full chests of each right now when you're dying to thirst and hypoxia. And those 3 chests of iridium, uranium, and super alloy you can't do anything with right now, you'll need them later, so you're going to hoard them through multiple deaths. I'm definitely not going to over exaggerate the difficulty of this game, but there is that slight dilemma of, "hoard all of this stuff now that's useless until later or spend anywhere from 2-50 minutes looking for this amount of stuff again when I need it?" This game pulls that dilemma off with very low stakes and it's more about convenience. You can have the kind of "perma-death" on where you lose everything when you die (not in a crate where you died. It just is all gone,) but for the most part, it's a fairly chill game where you can focus more on having fun and inconvenience more often is on you than not. The Lore, however.....I don't recall if MatPat ever did a Game Theory on this game before his frontline retirement, but this one definitely seems to have a bit of a back story.
