Nice video Jessica. You’ve motivated me to try to turn an old bedside stand i found into a moveable kitchen island instead of trying to restore it to what it once was. Nice I turned my husband's inherited wedding dresser from his aunt/uncle into a kitchen dresser put the flooring tile sticker/type looks like cut stone beautiful I think of them everyday when I see it but made it out own they love it.

Try just painting with the chalk paint. I used the Behr brand on a huge dresser/wardrobe. The old finish was dark brown. I put at least 4 coats of the Zinsser (sp?) primer and painted it light gray. I initially bought it because of the huge turned legs that I found in one of the drawers. I didn't use the primer on the legs. There was no bleed through of the brown stain and haven't had any chipping either. I could have saved a lot of time. I did add the Behr wax over the chalk paint.

I'm doing something similar but I'm using mine as a peninsula to eat on and to put put my coffee maker on. I just have to reverse the cross support so I can use the drawers for kitchen stuff and sit in the opposite direction, which isn't a problem I'm also thinking about taking the bottom 2 drawers out and putting my trash can there so it's out of the way and using the 2 drawer faces to create a door for the trash can.

Since you didn't have any counter space next to the stove, I think this is a better idea. I cook a lot and I can't imagine not having counter space handy to the stove. Once you get used to it, I think you'll agree. Is there any reason you use chalk paint and then cover it with clear acrylic (basically) instead of simply using acrylic to begin with?

great job. I've been looking into doing something similar, so great timing. i know you like it at the height it is now, but if you want a change, you could use some casters/wheels to make it movable and also it would raise it up by 3 to 4 inches, probably to the height of a regular countertop.

Yep, I'm not using casters I'm going to get the 3" round wooden balls and raise mine to counter height, I'm using mine as a peninsula to eat on and put my coffee pot on. I have to reverse the t support on the chair opening so I can sit in reverse and I'm going to take out the bottom 2 drawers to have somewhere to put my trashcan and then use the drawer fronts to make a door for the trashcan.

oh! i thought it was going to b a kitchen island! its now a kitchen counter as its next to a wall. if it was going to b a k island then u wd have put it in an open kitchen space in front of a stove or fridge etc. in such case i wd have added flip up countertop extensions on each end to make a substantial increase in countertop space.
