This series documents my attempt to ride a unicycle 674km across the entire width of Latvia. I’m alone and unsupported, wild camping along the way. If this wasn't challenging enough I'm also sticking exclusively to an off-road hiking route, named the Baltic Forest Trail!

For anyone interested, the Info boxes he opened were for the Dor Beetle (Geotrupes Stercorarius (a species of earth-boring dung beetle)), the Red Deer (Cervus Elaphus), and Stag's-horn Clubmoss (Lycopodium Clavatum).

In the inevitable long hike-a-uni sections, I often wonder if having all the gear on the uni is easier than if you were hiking with it all in a backpack. The uni will carry the weight for you, but it can also be awkward to maneuver and requires more of a conscious effort to balance. I suppose it's situational! Glad to see another glimpse into the amazing landscapes of Latvia!

2:26 Brenguļu is the best beer in Latvia in my opinion. That was the brewery you passed, it was built in a former hydro powerplant. It's hard to find on tap, but a few places in Riga have it like Folkklubs Ala and it's also not sold bottled or canned in the shops as it's cask ale. So if you want to take some home you have to bring your own bottle to the brewery or somewhere that has a tapped keg.

Yes lentils are the best. If you mix them with freeze dried peas and rice in a zip log bag you can make an easy to carry , easy cook dinner. just put a couple of centimetres of water above the rice level and cook slowly. A bit of cheese and some onion on top and you have a well-balanced portioned out dinner sized meal that, for me anyway, never get tired.

I've learned from a guide in a Malaysian jungle: when in a jungle (or forest) don't expect to see any wildlife. Because the wildlife will definitely see (or hear or smell) you first and you are not want they want to encounter.

ed! so glad the series is back. filming question - how do you charge your batteries when you're on a trip this long and outdoors while filming all day? do you just have tons of batteries or some sort of mobile charging solution?? i know in this episode you could charge in the cafe but i assume you've run into issues before? would love to know for filming trips of my own. love the work man, excited to continue watching :D

I just came home from a long bike trip and saw, new Ed video. Less than a video later, I am sitting here with a good pizza and enjoy it. =) Today I was riding 50 kilometers while yesterday I did 80 and also I didn't eat anything today yet. Along my ride, I felt my battery draining like crazy. It's weird when you feel alright, but your muscles just refuse to deliver their normal power. On a long bike ride, you need to keep pushing yourself, but every longer burst of power you need - like when going up a bridge or something - you are weirdly out of breath at the top. I had to think of all this when Ed skipped his breakfast and went right going. I was lucky that I was on a shopping trip anyway, randomly going 25K to next town by bike to get groceries, which I could absolutely get right out of my door, but where is the fun in that? So consuming a little coffee and a yoghurt at the store was enough energy to make it back properly, was an awesome ride. But the main meal is supposed to be here now. So this day is going wonderful so far. A really nice ride and then watching some good content with a good pizza.

Glad you are OK... having travelled alone, I used to be have to remind myself not to take as big risks as I might at home, or with a group... whether that is trying to ride rough terrain, or mixing it with heavy traffic on unavoidable highways... A good meal and some quality sleep is always a welcome end to a frustrating day...

Glad you survived that crash. And I totally agree that wearing a helmet is a must. I keep telling people that it's not always the speed that kills you when you're falling - it' the height. On a bicyle it's a 2 meter drop for the head - even when travelling at 7 km/h. And tighten those straps! They are not decoration. They can save you.

13:50, Lycopodium is a genus of clubmoses. A quick google says this particular species (Lycopodium clavatum) is also known as (common club moss, stag's-horn clubmoss, running clubmoss,[6] or ground pine). No matter what something may be called in another language, it is always easy to look up when they provide the scientific (latin) name of any organism.

I don't think it's very useful in this type of terrain. Most unicycles don't have brakes at all. I think Ed uses the brake more for speed regulation on downhills rather than stopping. He had a brake on his world tour uni as well and it was definitely useful on long mountain descents.
