I'm an aspiring comic illustrator/writer and have an undying love for sitcoms, old and new, and far and wide. I understand the medium isn't exactly the best place for such a genre these day, but I'm just doing this for fun and your advice is extremely helpful and motivating. Cheers!

It helps, but it's not essential. If you don't have an agent, it's worth sending your very best polished script to an agent because they have better contacts than you. But also send the script to people who make stuff you like - and/or a link to something you've made on KZbin, or a Fringe Show to show your intent/idea/talent.
