🇮🇳Can India survive coronavirus? | The Stream

Hundreds of thousands of fresh COVID-19 cases in India are overwhelming hospitals, as state and local authorities re-impose restrictions to check the country’s most serious outbreak yet of coronavirus infections.
The number of deaths is increasing day-on-day. More than 189,000 people across the country have now died due to COVID-19.
But there is little sign that national, state and local authorities are succeeding in slowing a devastating second coronavirus wave that people say is being underestimated. Test kits are in short supply and bureaucratic hurdles are frustrating people’s efforts to get prompt medical attention. Hospitals across India are now running out of beds, oxygen, and medicines.
Mixed government messaging on how to tackle the rising tide of cases and deaths is exacerbating the crisis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has faced widespread criticism on social media by citizens and opposition politicians, on April 20 said the latest wave of infections “has come like a storm”, but maintains that lockdown measures should only be used by states as “the last resort”.
As India faces the challenges of flattening the curve while trying to monitor new variants and revive a vaccination drive that has lagged in recent weeks, we’ll ask how the country can get control over the resurgence of COVID-19.

Being an Indian myself, it's disheartening to say that we are being ruled by the most insensitive government ever... Not only it ignores the plight of people but also turn their back on the sufferings being caused due to the shortage of oxygen and basic healthcare facilities, let alone of Corona Virus. Here in the video itself, you can see still how the minister is in denial over the catastrophe, and still singing the praise of his Prime Minister, who I don't have any respect left for... It's not just the condition of a single or 2 hospitals across the nation but of every single place... People are dying on the streets, are forced to being treat themselves at their home... The number of deaths that you're seeing on the records is totally skewed, for the crematoriums that are being said to have 2 or 3 dead bodies each day, on the ground level reports 100 of them. And still this government is only focusing on how to maintain its image on global level. Twitter blocks, imposing threats by one of the Chief Minister of the largest populous state over the "False" claims on shortage of oxygen or so on social media... You guys can totally see how transparent this government is, and how irresponsible it is towards its own citizen. India has been plunged into the current state only on the sheer negligence of all the governments, especially the ruling party... Shameless this government could ever be.
