15/22 is not bad. People are ridiculous to assume this is “bad” gas mileage. Many drive like maniacs and accelerate too hard which takes away much of the mpg. 2010 Honda Pilot gets 15.1 MPG in the city and 22 on the highway which is practically the same as this GX. The key is to drive like drivers and not racers in this vehicle.

@@bogart5131 To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend any American built vehicles like that of GMC or general motors company. Depending on whether you are a float nurse or you are going to stick in one place, I would recommend Lexus GX 460. If you are doing a lot of travel, I would get a Lexus RX. The Lexus GX 460 is mostly built around for two long trips in a month, running a few errands in a week and going to work. Not necessarily a “show-off” type of vehicle; more of a “I have a GX 460 parked in my driveway.” Reliability is off the charts with 460, 470, 570. Nothing beats Lexus/Toyota I my humble opinion. GMC Acadia Denali is something you could go for. It’s just that the engine is a 3.5L V6 and all GX 460s are 4.6L V8 with Eco. They recently made an LX600 which is a V6 but it’s more than 100K. Whichever suits you or gives you the best vibe. 👌

I purchased a 2014 Lexus GX in 2019. The key is buying these used. The tech is old but at a used price I think the vehicle is absolutely worth it especially over the 4Runner counterpart. The problem with the 4Runner version is that 4.0L V6. Once you load up the family and gear it is absolutely gutless. The V8 in the Lexus version makes up for that with more power and more torque and better mpg. Yes you pay for premium gas but it evens out in the end. If you are on the fence of a 4Runner or a GX 460 go with the Lexus. I saved about $20,000 buying five years old and remember outside of the front end the vehicle is essentially the same going back to 2010. Personally, I recommend finding a 2018 or older because they are 4WD and not AWD. You will save a ton of money in gas long term because you save 1 mpg city and 1-2 highway. Also, AWD destroys tires over the life of them and you'll squeeze out more miles on your tires than the 4WD versions.

Great advice, thanks! I’ve been contemplating which one to buy… the 4Runner or the GX460. I love them both. Either way I’m buying used to save cost and paying cash. I mean, theres plenty of trucks that can go wherever the GX goes and have plenty of class and quality interior. I've got a GX460 and an F250 King Ranch Tremor... the F250 has 3 inches more ground clearance and a steeper approach angle. The King Ranch interior is on par or better than the Lexus. The technology and seats in the Ford are certainly superior. That's not to say that the GX is uncomfortable- it does have good seats, but not quite as comfortable as the Ford's nor as adjustable and no massage (not that anyone uses massage aside from super long road trips anyway). The GX has a noticeably better ride quality though (as it should) and it's a solid vehicle. It's funny because both trucks are port injected... the only direct injected vehicle I own is my tractor, lol.

I never fully understood why people want to "settle" for high MPG luxury vehicles- I guess it's a mental thing. I get it, a lot of people buy the unibody with a hybrid or smaller displacement turbo engine these days if possible. That said, if you can afford a $60-70k luxury vehicle then the extra $1,000-1,500 a year in fuel shouldn't even be a blip on your radar. On top of that, these days chances are you may have an office job that has work from home part to full time, even further reducing your fuel costs. You should be able to just as easily get a fast or high utility luxury vehicle and it doesn't make a difference. If that's actually a financial impactf for you, then the bigger question is why is your budget so tight and why are you spending nearly double the money on a vehicle you don't objectively need in the first place. A luxury vehicle is 100% an emotional and arguably "irrational" purchase. Just my 2 cents
