@@jshakes1806 Well you're math is wrong. Throwing 40-60 percent out is wrong, we already know this from Obama's elections, and experience. The racism you are expressing, where someone outright won't vote for someone for the color of their skin, is likely much lower. I'd throw the number out at probably around 10-15 percent at most, but I'm completely guessing. The racism is typically more nuanced and less directly impactful. But otherwise, that is the exact thing, the naivete required to believe that it's a shoe-in given the racial and sexual context of America, I'm criticizing. It's not a one to one, but it would be like if the abolitionists, the John Brown types, were running the Republican ticket in 1860 and nominated Frederick Douglass or something. Again clearly not even close to a one to one, but it gets the concept across.

Before I changed majors and career streams I was a history major. Reporting like this makes me wonder if deaths or removals of monarchs and important ministers like Cardinal Richelieu, Prince Metternich etc. received the same kind of attention. Perhaps when international observers call the US the Global Hegemon they may have a point. There are scholarly books with titles like "The Accidental World Power," about the US. The problem is that the population at large may be too parochial to realize that power, and the responsibility that goes with it. I try to be more aware, which is why I watch Times Radio on KZbin, and why my passport had stamps from thirty countries and six residence visas.
