Always love your videos, super fun, no cussing, family oriented, and real. And it's so cool to see them boys develop into amazing riders as expected from a pro father. Owen's whip was the best.

As a new rider to Mountain Biking, to see even a pro like you struggle a little with learning something new (not saying this to be mean of course) it is encouraging to me as a noob. It reminds me not to be frustrated when I have a hard time with the basics

Hi eric im a boy from Australia called Rufus i am the same age as owen and i love your videos! You, milo and owen have inspired me to build my own dirt jumps and i have so much fun riding it and learning how to do new things with help from your videos! So thank you for everything!- rufus

As a MTBer in his 40s w kids similar age, seeing you struggle w things in a similar way is truly humbling and inspiring. Gives me the confidence and motivation to keep working hard on my own jumps skills. Thanks for how you bring this content!

Man I think more important than these whips is the life you're breathing into these boys. I can't think of a single time my father wanted to partake in a mutual hobby and share stoke like this. I know you know this but you're really imprinting something special here on them.

Great to see the boys growing up and teaching Dad how to whip!
@jdenmark1287Ай бұрын
Your boys are absolutely crushing it! You as a dad, are too. Brilliant display of humility and courage. As for your whips, instead of thinking of leaning, think instead that your hands and feet are the axis between your body and the bike that you twist by counter pulling your hand from counter pushing your foot down. Then let your hips become the next axis of pivot to allow your legs to go parallel to the ground while your body stays vertical and your hands stay horizontal.
@danielray1558Ай бұрын
This was awesome. As a Dad I love when my kids get better at me than anything. I don't ever go easy on them, but I've been surprised at how fast they learn and grow. Way to go Owen and Miles
@motojaymo6653Ай бұрын
Yes!! Another Porter video! This is just an observation and I'm not winning any whip contests myself but I noticed that both Milo and Owen in attack position ride goofy foot whereas you ride regular foot like me. I know with practice people can whip both ways but for me personally it's much easier because of my stance to whip to the right. (Turning the bars to the right off the lip) rather than to the left like your boys. I think it has something to do with my right foot being rearward and being able to help push the rear of the bike sideways. And there's my two cents. 😊

One more comment! I guess it is one thing to acknowledge getting beaten by your kids.. but on the other hand, without YEARS of your coaching and guidance, they wouldn't have gotten there. Making someone better than you is perhaps the highest compliment as a teacher. In that regard, kudos to you because they've both become incredible riders.

For some reason I imagine whips in almost like a circle or figure 8/ °° the front wheel does a circle and the back wheel does a circle in opposite directions directions. That way it comes back. So front wheel goes down and around rear wheel goes up and around. (For moto whip style whips)

Whips are done in a rowing motion, drop your bottom elbow as you carve off the lip leaned over then let the bike’s rear end swing out and around as your body stays straight. Do not use your butt or legs to kick the rear end out, this is improper technique and not a whip, it’s a kick out. I come from a motocross background.

Not sure if you or anyone will see this comment as the video is 2 years old, but ill post anyway. How do i conquer my fear of jumping again? I had a pretty decent dirtbike accident a few years back where i broke 4 ribs and punctured one of my lungs, and im just so scared to jump now, i have just recently gotten into mountain biking with my son and i find that even small jumps now i am scared of. i roll over them or jam my brakes on and my body control is just terrible now. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks

I’m not a coach, but just another middle aged guy figuring things out. I have taken some coaching sessions and that really helped. For me, repetition has been invaluable. The mental blockers are legit though and I get it. Start small, build your confidence with repetition, listen to your instincts and if you aren’t feeling it wait for a day you are riding really well, give yourself grace, get some coaching, and know it will improve in time.
