This is protocol, not arrogance. What is the status of the chief? Is he an odikro, divisional or a paramount chief? State protocol directs everybody to stand up when the president arrives at a function. We should not politicize and tribilize everything. Nana Addo might not be your favorite, but he’s the president. Maybe he should have been a little polite in the way he handled the situation, but that doesn’t take away the fact that everybody has to stand up when the president arrives at a function. Before Nana Addo became president, he always lowered his cloth when he greeted the Asantehene. After he became president, Nana Addo has NEVER lowered his cloth when greeting the Asantehene. Let’s give reverence to he who deserves it. When JM was president, same was accorded him. Whenever Otumfou meets Nana Addo at a function outside Manhyia, Asantehene stands up to acknowledge the presence of the president. It is different when Otumfui sits in state. For goodness sake, there are categories of chiefs. Moreover, what has Asantehene got to do with this? Stop comparing paramount chiefs to Otumfuo; he is NOT a paramount chief.
