Yeah I don't get that scoop. He can block 3 of the 2/2s without losing any creatures, takes less than 12 damage. Sure they get like 5 more untapped 2/2s but what's that going to do to a field of 9/9 tramplers? That was all sloppy..

Game 2 was lost due to Seth rushing things and not thinking things over: In the first round, not blocking with the 1/2 meant he lost 3 life for no reason, and would've let him survive 2 more turns. And in the second round, when he was at 12, it was an easy block on 4 creatures, no trades, and Nissa backswing?
@Hylianlink51047

Hindsight is 20/20 and I get the feeling this isn't the only deck he is trying out any given week, so the knowledge you could waste your time with a deck you will not be able to make a video for is probably hanging above his head more than playing at a top8 level.
@Kydrou
@Kydrou Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but scooping too early leads to eschewed results. While it's likely game 2 was lost anyway, or at least gone to 3 matches; the fact that it had a chance at a comeback or fair matchup lets players know what hands to pick and which ones to mulligan, SPECIALLY if the deck is a budget build, as it teaches you what is the True Core of the deck: X power in creatures + Y lands = Z life. Life totals can be seen, but since we can't know the true value of X, you might make mistakes when deciding what to let go and what to replace.
@kk_33
@kk_33 Жыл бұрын
Game two was an early scoop. You had enough blockers that could eat the tokens to only let 6 damage through. Even if opponent has a 2nd rabble rousing in hand, he could at best add 14 2/2 blockers, which is only 28 points of block, while Nissan overrun gets you to 53 trampling power.

I think I would make the swap of Hydromancer for Iconoclast in the budget build. The blue sources are all red, as well, and It seems like the deck loses to having Nissa but missing a few points of damage more than failing to draw her. Getting in for an extra attack could matter, and while Hydromancer has the same body, if you think of that extra mana as a card with Visionary on the battlefield, I like the cost reduction over a kicker that never happens.

@pointyheadYT
@pointyheadYT Жыл бұрын
@@daktastik Yeah, Defiler by itself is a huge threat, you wouldn't need to rely on drawing just 4 Nissa's anymore. It also comboes well with her. Defiler into Nissa on the next turn works really well, since just her entering the battlefield triggers the Defiler and gives everything an additional +1/+1. Not to mention how huge the cost reducion of the Defiler is not just for Nissa, but for the 1 and 2 mana elves. You can basically play the 1 mana elves for free and trigger the Visionary and Gala Greeters much much easier and more frequently each turn.

I'm really confused here - I'm just not seeing why that was 'guaranteed lethal' and needed conceding to. Next turn the tokens deck attacks with 6 tokens and maybe the Adversary - Loamspeaker can eat the adversary, and there are three other decent blockers that don't trade with the tokens, so letting 6 power through (while at 12 life). Sure, they gain another 6 or 7 tokens and flip the rabble rousing - if it's another adversary under there, that's lethal, but I'm not sure what else doubles the impact that turn. Then Nissa can come down, pump everything to 8s or better and attack for lethal. Clearly I'm missing something (and obviously, the tokens player could have things that change the maths, but that comes later) - what am I not seeing?

I do take exception to your comment that you'd never even seen the DMU kicker elves in Limited. I played a lot of five color green in that format and some Simic kicker (though the odds of that not turning into five color green were pretty low) and both of those were serviceable, possibly even good, in those decks. A two drop to keep you from getting run over that could dig for a payoff if you drew it late, and a three drop that also helped keep you from getting run over that made a copy of one of your big creatures when you drew it late? I liked having one of each of them in my ramp decks! Of course, that does still leave them as draft chaff, and "good enough for Limited" is hardly a Standard staple.
