Something interesting is that Piers says he's not that strong of a Gym Leader, but remember: every Gym Leader in Galar is ranked. This means that as the 7th Gym Leader, he is not only stronger than every Gym Leader that comes before him: he's the 4th Best Trainer in Galar after you become Champion (Player, Leon, Raihan, then Piers).

I agree, he managed to knock out three members of my team BEFORE I decided to restart and train more than 6 pokemon due to the portable box, meaning that all the pokemon were a few levels over him, AND I was training a Centiscorch at the time. and just to clarify, I almost *NEVER* lose pokemon in a battle against a gym leader

If he were to win and become champion, I’m pretty sure that after a while, he’d step down. He loves battling but I don’t think he anticipated it as solely a career. It’s more of a hobby to his actual passion for music. If he did win the Championship and stay champion, it would be out of the same reason he took up the title of gym leader: sense of duty. He wouldn’t be happy as champion.

I always saw Piers as a “Unique” Gym leader for Galar. Imagine; Dynamaxing has already become familiar with you and you’ve defeated six gym leaders with it. Here comes Piers and…you can’t dynamax. If you didn’t already have a super effective move against Dark types or you relied on dynamaxing to win. This is the game’s way of snapping you back to reality. This battle taps into a ounce of the OG tension and unfairness that earlier games had. Even if its still a mere fraction and he’s easy to beat if you have a fairy type, he’s there. *He is there.* They could’ve gone for the basic dynamaxing gym leader, but no. They decided to put in the first Dark type gym leader in Pokémon and give him that classic treatment. The treatment that, Pokémon can be hard; It can have bad luck. It can have good luck. The battle could go anywhere, it can land a crit on you and put you in a tough spot, it can even put you in a comfortable position, but even if this game is maybe the easiest Pokémon game; it still encapsulates that true-to-form feel even if it’s in one battle.

his dark types would easily defeat Allister melony might be a problem simply because his only coverage move is stunktanks flamethrower but that isn't very fast so it'll be neutral damage while stuck in a hailstorm. doesn't sound that good for Piers
