For a young family, I think it really comes down to - where is the best education for your children?

As Johor Bahru has been more beautified and made more touristy, it would be possible to live in JB and regularly travel to Singapore with the new train link opening soon (faster than the current train/bus/car). However, unless you're working in Singapore, I think the visas are prohibitive for most people. There is no retiree visa, etc.

Agreed! JB has had a ton of foreign investment in the past 5-10 years so it's certainly an option. Singapore could be used as a weekend getaway. - Josh & Kalie

@@ExpatsEverywherePodcast SEZ (Forest City) visa?

Whats with all these videos considering trading Portugal for Singapore? Not in the same league, cost of living, visa availability, citizenship possibility, housing market are almost on oposite ends of the scale.

Thanks for the comment. There are 2 videos that came out in tandem with each other and kind of play off each other. Another podcast episode was about Malaysia, namely KL, which was formatted the same as this. Kalie and I like to take our audience members on the road with us when we travel. This comparison in particular would hit the demographic of expats that are considering relocating for work, possibly doing international school teaching (like we did), or potentially starting a company. We'll finish up this little travel (comparison) series with our Istanbul, Turkey episode next week. - Josh & Kalie

Yeah move to Singapore.... just a cool million to get their retirement visa or get a job as an expat with a temporary work visa which doesn't provide residency status... loss your job bye bye...
@scootertooter68742 ай бұрын
I don't think they have a retirement visa, and it costs $25M SG to get into the Global Investor Programme (GIP).
@ExpatsEverywherePodcast2 ай бұрын
Hi, not sure what you mean by "doesn't provide residency status". It is possible for someone to change jobs within Singapore in case of a lost job but one would need to file with MoM for that and that's not too dissimilar to other countries.
@ExpatsEverywherePodcast2 ай бұрын
They don't have a specific retirement visa and the cost of the GIP is currently at $2.5M SGD not 25 million. - Josh & Kalie

@@ExpatsEverywherePodcast Actually, my data says that in early 2023 they bumped the cost of the GIP up tenfold...would LOVE to be proven wrong, however...

Well, if you are into autoritarian regimes, be my guest, move to Singapore.
