I remember that the sims 3 was very realistic in that IF YOU BREED HORSES YOU ARE RICH RICH..... Im glad that ts4 is a bit less problematic but it was kindda fun to train horses and become a millionaire
@Ljoyner973 жыл бұрын
I always thought that part of the sims 3 was super unrealistic because if you're breeding horses, training horses, or teaching lessons you probably aren't rich. If you hire people to breed, train, and sometimes ride those horses in competition you're rich. Horses are kind of money pits so unless you already have money you're screwed. I've seen several people go bankrupt thinking that they could get rich that way or by owning a barn for people to bord their horses. When I had only one horse these where a small portion of my expenses: reseeding the pastures so she had grass to eat, buying hay; treats; sweetfeed; and salt blocks, having her hooves trimmed (she didn't need shoes but that would have been an added expense) for her that was about every 12-14 weeks because I knew how to do some stuff and didn't need the farrier to come out as often, my horse had seasonal allergies so copious amounts of benadryl in addition to fly spray; dewormer; etc., teeth floating, grooming tools and products, toys, and sooooooo much more. I lived on a farm so we already had land, a truck, and a vet coming out regularly but there were other one time expenses, the 10 years of lessons (about 4 years of which were daily) , and the 4 brain injuries from riding and from having to walk on ice to feed her in winter. I no longer did shows by the time I had my own horse but that's another expense. Literally the only reason we ever where able to have horses in the first place was that 1 was placed as an emergency thing where it needed housing and the other two my parents bought for not that much because my trainer died unexpectedly without life insurance and we had a farm, the horse we kept until I had to 'retire' at 16 was the one I helped train the others we place at no cost into good homes. This also may be a regional thing or dependent on the country you live in. Here in America when I could ride horses and everything related to them was super cheap in Texas, a bit more expensive in Nevada and North Carolina, and the most expensive in Illinois that's for where I lived at various points during the years I rode so it could be different now.

While the "Adopt dont shop" - offensive has a really good background (animal shelters, responsible breeders,...) is very well meaning. It does NOT mean, that you shouldn't buy an animal from a RESPONSIBLE breeder. As in: a breeder that takes good care, vaccinates their animals, checks your background and living condition to be suitable for whatever animal you are looking for etc. "Adopt dont shop" means: DO NOT buy from petstores, DO NOT buy from random ebay offers etc. If adopt dont shop stops you from buying an animal from the pet store: awesome. But if it really needs to be a puppy/kitten/animal you most likely wont get at the shelter, seek out responsible breeders. And on a more personal note, if you choose to "shop" responsibly, make sure the breed you get isnt suffering by being bred into hell by unrealistic and damaging "standards" on those animals. pugs that cant breathe, suffer. german sheperds with hips like frogs, suffer. persians that cant see, suffer. guinea pigs without hair, suffer. Adopt, or shop responsibly. Dont shop impulsively. dont shop for looks. And if you want an animal but cant afford one responsibly - you are not entiteld to have a pet. The Animal is entiteld to you having the time and money to support it, keep it happy and healthy and enable an enriching, healthy life. You cant do that? DONT GET A PET. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

There's also shelters that buy from puppy mills (which I found out after things came out about the "rescue" I adopted my girl from) and just not-good shelters. Research shelters. Research breeders. A well bred dog is an amazing thing. Adopting is great, but it's a real grab bag of what to expect. Also, the "spay or neuter your pets" - if you have a way to keep them from breeding, studies are coming out that shows that keeping a male dog intact/intact longer actually lowers the chance of behavior issues.

@selkiefluff3 жыл бұрын
Registered breeders are not inherently bad, they hardly make proper profit off the pups too and it's usually a side hustle, because so much money goes into vet bills, best types of food, travelling to other breeders etc. It's the crappy dog factories and pet shops that create problems, which are mostly an US thing (you never could buy a puppy or a kitten in a pet store in my country, now you can't even buy hamsters etc. - you can only get critters from registered breeders). There's no need to demonize it or talk about it as if it's abuse, especially in a video game.

The thing that bothers me about putting puppies & kittens up for adoption in TS4 is that if you switch to another household, it will show you the puppy/kitten you just sold/gave up for adoption... but it's not the same pet. It looks the same and has the same name, but they have totally different traits and it won't show your pets as their parents in the pets family tree. (The same happens for any pet you adopt- try bringing an animal you didn't adopt back multiple times from the adoption option- they'll have different traits and they won't remember you.) Ever since I learned that, I can't bring myself to use the in-game version and just adopt out any extra kittens and puppies through household management.

*Adopt and buy responsibility.* There are thousands of reasons not to Adopt as it's not good for every family but if you have the knowledge, time and money Adoption is an amazing choice.
@introvertedequinesamsara65933 жыл бұрын
*Here are the reasons why one might buy instead of Adopt.* 1 *a clean slate.* They don't have to have to deal with a pretentally traumatized, badly socialized/trained dog who has behavioral issues. To not have to accidentally find an tick/snap especially when they have children. 2 *knowing their health.* It's a huge misconception that mutts or mixes are healthier than purbreds, that is more often than not incorrect as reputable breeders do health test before breeding. And by knowing the breed you'll know what they're prone to and how long they'll live. 3 *fits into life style.* By knowing their energy level, prey drive, shed level and instincts it helps them better match that dog into their lifestyle. If a lazy large family goes to a rescue and adopts a dog they don't know is a herding mix that will cause alot of disaster. 4 *adoption doesn't solve backyardbreeders.* Backyardbreeders use shelters for dogs they don't sell and by no longer buying dogs from any breeder would only cause there to be less dogs in the world, the last remaining dogs to only be mutts and horribleily bred. So all the dogs that were once breed for amazing predictable characteristics would disappear and you'll get dogs with unpredictable instincts and health.

Right! Esp since sooo many shelters are lowkey racist/prejudiced against poor folks. Like I knew someone who tried to adopt from shelters but whenever she put down her address (in an impoverished brown neighborhood) she would be rejected for no reason. Also the whole adopt don’t shop! and neuter your pets! Is kinda counterintuitive. Like if everyone adopts and everyone neuters their dogs then there will eventually be no more dogs....... like obviously if you’re not gonna be a safe breeder or want puppies then neuter your pets but its just kinda dumb

@@avocato8156 I completely agree with you on everything you said, especially about neutering/spaying. Personally, I'm against that because it's unnatural. It's natural for animals to breed, so taking that option away from them is very cruel to me. I feel like if you're encouraging adoption and spaying/neutering in the same sentence, then you're contradicting yourself. You can't say you care about animals and then say that their right to naturally have puppies/kittens naturally should be taken away from them. I feel that is hypocritical.

@@BeautyMonster1000 having babies is a natural urge but it can be very dangerous and creates possibly unhealthy, unwanted animals if done accidentally. plus it reduces the risk of cancer

It's only unethical if you have a conscience. I do this often with Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers, Pit Bulls (weird), Labradors and Corgis. There is money in this! My sims are professional breeders.

You could put the lot trait for having more puppies on your lot. I forgot what it's called, it's the layline, but for dogs 😁

This! As a breeder the adopt don't shop mentality is so harmful. A rescue dog isn't for everyone. Each of my dogs have 10k invested in their health testing and titles. My puppies have predicted temperaments and I can place them into homes perfect for them. And a good breeders puppies will never end up in a shelter because of contracts.
