Can Quantity Defeat Quality in Naval Action Multiplayer PVP?

While we are new to this game, we have numbers and experience from flight sims. We are learning fast and this is a nice crowning achievement for us on our discord as we were only 3 weeks into this game when this video was made. Since then, we have really learned a lot and don't have to rely on our numbers so much. **We are playing France this wipe** If you would like to join us, find the naval action channels in our discord. If you are new to the game, there are some things you have to know: 1) it feels like these devs have broken almost every promise they have made. 2) The game is still basically in a beta state, with the devs constantly changing stats while adding little new content. 3) They have alienated most of their long term player base by instituting the F2P server, constantly meddling with wood stats, destroying cannon realism and so on. 4) they also completely destroyed trading, commerce raiding, and to a point RVR. 5) The ships are super arcadey now, stern shots used to only decimate crew, now they nuke ships. I like DCS because it tries to conform to reality, NA conforms to whatever the devs experienced in their last collective fever dream. I loved the game, but gave it up because of 0 consistency, plus it it such a time commitment it makes having the rug torn out from under you ever 10 seconds all the more infuriating.

Hey, i noticed you were having issues with irons so ill try to help you out here. -when you get into irons the first thing id do is to turn your FRONT mast against the wind in the opposite direction you are turning (so if I'm trying to go right the front mast goes left, and vice versa). -the back sails should always be in the opposite direction of your front sails/ with the wind, so you dont get blow back too far. - and last little bit of advice i have is plan your rudder for when you slip into the negative's, so you are still getting max turn efficiency, instead of your rudder working against you. hope this helps! great video!

Thanks! We have been playing a lot, I think I have already sunk 200 hours into the game, I am very hooked by it. We just conquered our first port last night as a clan so I am hoping to upload more as interesting things happen.

I think in general even in DCS videos they go under appreciated. Having a way to ground the audience into the same knowledge base always helps for your content type.

A little tip when you are sailing upwind, turn your back masts to the opposite side, this will push wind into the sail making your ship turn faster whilst going backwards. Great video tho🙏🏼

Love all the editing with explanations. Really nice. You actually watch your videos and try to understand where a viewer might be confused. I hadn’t seen gameplay of this game, and only read bad reviews on steam but as you say like niche deep PVP games like IL2, so nice to get a feel for it myself. The group naval combat looks good but one of your teammates says he was trying to get a good fight for 2 days - I suppose as an experimental sort of MMO it can be quite slow and unwieldy?

The game has a wipe system and the developers have really bad communication. The wipe was expected to happen in June (when this video was shot) so player numbers were really bad. There was only 200 concurrent players around this time so it was a bit hard to find fights. The wipe just happened this week and numbers are up to 800+ concurrent players so it is much easier to find fights now. The game is really neat, it's one of a kind and the combat is really interesting once you get deeper into the mechanics and understanding how ship combat was back then.

I sail with the Pirate faction. I have left word on Nations Chat for Ferrus Pugnum to let him know about your upload. Folks there told me that Ferrus is the leader of BLACK Clan and I see him from time to time on chat.

@@Enigma89 Yes I am aware that you do not know Ferrus, and more so when the developers do not give opposing players any in-game means to communicate with each other, but I thought Ferrus will find your after-action report on his L'Ocean's combat with your Spanish Fleet interesting, and hence I left word for him to check out your upload. So you are sailing with the Frogs this season ? I haven't sunk a 'Frenchman' yet but my kills are mostly Englishmen, and the odd Spanish ;) I roleplay as a solo Pirate commerce raider.

Well, it was a good fight that we could not win. If a larger fleet of smaller faster ships like yours takes on a couple first rates you will always win. Our only hope was to sink one or more of you to make it a more equal fight before we died. I actually thought we were reported leaving la Mona but in fact it was just by chance. The new meta if getting stern or bow shots in dooms any players who are outnumbered. It is almost impossible to protect your stern in that situation. While sad to lose the ships it was a good fight.. Well done, you had us in a bad position and took advantage of it.

Awesome content, really cool to see people still getting into and enjoying this game. The super-salty veteran players are everywhere and their complaints are valid but this game still scratches an itch that is unique to itself. You will get a little better performance on the stern rakes against line ships when using Parallel instead of Water aim setting.

You might lose your ship in every battle, but if you're smart you win experience each time. And even better you can learn the basics against AI. They are not so difficult to kill.

It's just part of the game, it's a risk reward any time you decide to go somewhere. There are PVE areas where you are insulated from player attacks and can only fight AI

Great content and video but I have to point out those guys played that incredibly badly. While you have numbers (and BR) the lack of formation on initial tag led to lack of formation in the battle resulting in 1vX vs 2vX for the entirety of the fight. Lack of focused fire on their part let you pick their sterns to pieces. There is currently a (rather silly) mechanic that buffs/nerfs damage from/to any ship 2 rates higher/lower. Effective fire from those two could have forced each of you into your first repair cycle quickly, making you withdraw from immediate action and mitigated your ability to constantly rake. The number of shots they completely wiffed (while never focusing) was shameful. Overall I'd say that was more the quality of your play vs the quantity of their guns.

@@Enigma89 Doesn't mean that you guys made a good job. It was a gank against noobs. Nothing more. 1. Rates cannot win against smaller ships, since they are too fast, and just run away when they are damaged. 1. Rates can only avoid to lose.

@@rainerbrombach5502 1st rates while played correctly in current meta can absolutely decimate multiple smaller opponents. 4th rates can be oneshotted through rake, 3rd rates crippled to state where they have to sit on spot or they sink, if using double ball, they can be oneshotted too. Running now is hard due to easy demasting or raking, turn away and you have rake guaranteed, go full sails, demast is guaranteed.

@@honzavasicek All of this requires superior maneuverability and fast reload time, which a 1st Rate simply doesn't have. A frigate does not have to run away in full sail, because 1st Rate faces the same fate if they attempt to confront a damaged frigate in full sail. A single 1st rate may survive an ambush by multiple smaller ships. The attackers, if they know what they do, hardly take the risk of losing their ship. This would only be different if frigates had realistic broadside armor. It was like that for a short time. Then the gankers howled until they were allowed to sail close to first rate with impunity again. NA is a gankers paradise. You attack with a bunch of small ships. If the enemy plays too strong you run, if you cought a noob you kill him. Only risk is that you play more stupid than your opponent. Instead fo fixing the game devs implemented now a map full of PvE zones and killed respectable PvP.
