The father should be charged, maybe, for negligence or something similar, knowing his kid was a "danger." However, the father didn't shoot or maime people, the Son Did! This is an attempt by the Govt to scare parents not to purchase a firearm for their child(ren)! The Govt ABC agencies are allowing this! Wonder why?!

I was given a .22 bolt action rifle when I was 14. But my father also made a point to tell me that I was only given the rifle because I had PROVEN to him that I was responsible. It was also understood that if I did NOT act in a responsible manner that my privileges would be taken away from me. I never had a curfew as a child like most of my friends did. It was also made clear that this freedom was dependent upon me NOT screwing up! There were NO acceptable excuses. I was simply expected to do the right thing, and I did.

As a lawyer I would say that the DA wants to proceed in the adult court justice system versus juvenile which has totally different procedures, no jury, and limitations as to punishment. The defense attorney will file and litigate the juvenile vs adult issue. Prior Georgia state Supreme Court decisions lays out the governing precedents. This could wind up as a juvenile case with this teenager age 14. The DA typically and predictably takes the aggressive posture because this is a high profile case. But perhaps eventually the case goes to the juvi. system under Georgia precedent. This father is going to do a plea deal eventually. The DA is going to be ultra aggressive in all the powers the government holds against defendants. This dad will be intimated heavily to agree to many year rather than a conviction and sentence 3 times worse. I suspect the son “ratted out” his dad in some way either by accident or on purpose. The shrinks and doctors involved in medicating and treating this teen could be in deep trouble too for all kinds of mismanagement and perhaps even malpractice and license discipline. Given what we know, all firearms and ammo in that household needed to be under airtight and foolproof lock and key. No way given the prior police investigation would any reasonable parent let a teen child have free access and use of any firearm on a solo basis. The firearm must be 100.% under full eyeball supervision at all times.

I might be in the minority, but murder for the father? I'm not sure about that. Should he be charged with SOMETHING yes, but murder? Unless somehow they could prove he knew the kid was going to kill people (not just the threats thereof) and then gave him the weapon, then perhaps. I don't know man. Some kids are just assholes no matter how well you discipline them. Shouldn't ALL fall on the dad.

I 100% agree. The charge should fit the crime. We can’t go arresting people for being stupid. There might not even be any law the dad violated to be honest. Is it illegal to buy your kid a gun when you are convinced someone set him up and the FBI and local law enforcement never took it further with anyone? I don’t think so. Against, stupid? Yes. But stupidity isn’t a crime unless it’s on the books.

Its like some kind of weird twisted double jeopardy type of situation there imo. I also want to know how can a kid be charged as an adult, but adult penalties are taken off the table due to him being 14 and a minor? It doesnt make sense the kid is charged as an adult if theyre not going to penalize him as such. Theyve split hairs and convoluted the law imo.

This just seems wrong. This is more about going after "gun rights / 2A" than it is about the father. He was not behind the trigger and was trying to apparently teach responsibility and providing an outlet. There are failures here but I don't think the father should be going to jail over this. Your actions are yourse and no one else's. Can we put parents in jail now because their kid is a drug dealer and kills someone? Can we put them in jail for driving recklessly and killing someone? Better yet, Can we put the parents in JAIL because their kid is in a gang and kills someone? Seems like that would be just as relevant for something like this. It wasn't him who threatened the 1st time, his discord was hacked and someone else tried to swat the kid. There is a difference between the Dad's and the Kid's Psychological processes, the Dad knew his son was innocent of the 1st incident; but the kid who's already being sexually harassed and bullied, would feel eventually that he's being persecuted for nothing and not being protected that he might as well do the crime because he has already had his life ruined by the bullies. His father did what he did trying to be closer to his son, but also help him affirm his Masculinity. You either charge the kid as an adult and then you can’t charge the father with murder or you charge the kid as a minor and then you can charge the father. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

People think the justice system is about feelings. It's not like civil law, dummies. Normally, I would say if the offspring is charged as an adult, the parents can't be. If the parents are charged, then the offspring is charged as a minor. BUT! Given the history, I could see charging the father as an accessory, or a negligence based charge, much like you would a dad who buys booze and boy DUIs. There is a problem, though. Murder charges, for the man who didn't pull the trigger? Thats over charging and probably a prosecutor who is trying to get re-elected. Then outrage when this fails in court, maybe even trying to get a mostly peaceful situation. Dad's denial does not make him an active participant. Guessing this DA is an Atlanta liberal who thinks collective guilt and reparations are a good idea.

These are initial charges. Throwing the book at him as it were. The charges that will likely stick when this goes to trial are the four counts of Involuntary Manslaughter. The prosecutors do not have to prove malice or intent. They just have to convince a jury that the defendant acted in a reckless OR negligent manner ( supplying the firearm ) that ( without intent ) contributed to the four fatalities committed by his son. Sentencing for I.M. in GA is 1-10 years if convicted.

All these mass shootings at school in the 2000s, all have one thing in common, school admin failed to secure the schools. When are we going to start holding these principles, vic principles, extra accountable for their failures. You know we are going after the Secret Service over their failures at the Trump rally, yet we never ever go after any one that works at these schools. How did he sneak the rifle into the school? Even when disassembled, a AR will not fit totally in side a common school backpack, which means he would of had to use a oversized backpack of duffle bag, it would of seem very odd to have a very oversized backpack being brought to school. Another thing if his prior school though he might be a danger to their school, why wasn't the new school notified & if it was why did they fail to take precautions like searching him, every time he interred the school As the father goes, he had no evidence his son was going to do this, even the FBI investigation failed to bring up any evidences to bring charges or any other legal actions such as mandatory mental eval. I also want to point out that law enforcement have a rich history of starting faults investigations, we all know this or wrongfully putting people on terror watch & no fly list. So, saying the father new his son was a danger to others based solely of one interaction with FBI, is BS. .Now the cover up has already started, how do we know this? By how in press conferences, government is patting themselves on the back, refusing to give even the littlest info on the schools failure, how quick they have moved to arrest & charge the father & how they are controlling the news media narrative over this. Also, how fast they are rushing this to court. Father arrested the someday, both had court appointed attorneys the very next day for their arrements. & now it's like 3 months from now until the next court date?

In the beginning of your video it’s stated I believe that it was stated that the threat was made and that Gray MIGHT have been a part of it. So we’re there more than one person making comments? I’ve yet to figure out was it a typed threat or something said into a microphone? So, I’m just not sure they had any real evidence. Maybe all they had was he said she said??? But I’m definitely not seeing enough evidence here for me to think dad should be arrested for this and the sons being tried as an adult. I can’t ever recall a case like this and if it goes full tilt Pandora’s box is opened. What if your spouse takes your gun and goes out on a spree, could you be on the hook for that too? I mean in the interview dad tells them he’s teaching him to hunt, to get outdoors and off video games. He’s states he’s been going to the school about the boys grades and that he’s being picked on. So the only evidence I’ve been presented is that he’s trying to help the boy. Someone needs to put down some damning evidence for me to believe you’re doing 180 years for something you didn’t personally go do.

I view it the same as with police officers and local governments. If a cop is criminally charged, it's personally on him. If it's civil stuff, the government is on the hook. I don't think it's rational nor ethical to criminally charge another person for someone else's crimes.

@@mobilegamersunite I agree, someone definitely dropped the ball on the investigation. Would think the fbi would have handed over evidence to local authorities on who and where the threat was posted. My 31 year old daughter was murdered by a 10 year old (boyfriends son) on ADD medicine with a shotgun his father gave him as a Christmas present. It was preplanned. The boy was not able to be charged as an adult, we barely got him charged at all. But Marcys law took affect in Georgia. They told us the father couldn't be charged because it was a long gun. The boy did stay in juvenile till he turned 21. He is out now with nothing on his record.

Paul, why aren't the mental health care provider and the school staff also under arrest for their failure to properly care for and supervise Colt Gray? Back in 1966, a college student named Charles Whitman was seeing a psychiatrist and taking diet pills, even told his doctor of his plans--so the problem didn't just happen overnight.

Like others are saying, depends on what proof they have about the Father's knowledge of his son's mental state, and the location and type of the firearm. They'll charge him with anything they think will stick, like throwing spaghetti at the wall. Possible charges Strawman purchase? Kid wasn't charged with a crime, last year, was there a legal reason the kid couldn't possess that firearm? What was the firearm, a pistol AR, or a rifle, was it the one in the photo from his hunting trip? Where was that rifle stored, Georgia doesn't have safe storage laws. But, did the kid "steal" it from his Father? If he broke into a lock, and took it without permission, the kid was breaking another law. IDK, I'm not a lawyer just some thoughts.
