Can sociology be a science (overview)

Several sides to this debate - Yes it can, positivist methodologies suggest the use of objective quantitative methods. No - it can't - it doesn't fulfil the requirements of falsification and verification. No it shouldn't - various, but largely interpretivist approaches. And finally, the realist approach, which suggests it can use scientific analysis, but cannot make predictions in the way the natural sciences do.
