Australian Sandalwood trees have undergone fires and flooding in the last few years. Also, any remaining trees grow extremely slowly and must be cut down to extract the essential oil. So yes the price has gone up due to mother nature and human stupidity.

Also with the popularity of the oil it is being over harvested, Prices went up to slow that down. Sad. FOs do smell like the original.s you can advertise the fo instead as you are supporting the over harvesting of the oil.

Thank you so much for sharing the Essential Oil information, I wasn't sure if a person should use the oils that aren't pure Essential Oils in soaps because they are going on the skin. I do invest in essential oils for my soaps because I personally am allergic to synthetic fragrance. I can't afford to use synthetic fragrances on my body for health reasons. Australian sandalwood is very pricey because there are limited trees left and in fact I try to avoid that oil due to the deforestation of the australian sandalwood tree. It is very sad. I do find so much value in your videos and appreciate you sharing so much knowledge. I just make basic tallow soap and all tallow based skincare products but it is fun to see how things are made by other creators.

Definitely worth using EO's. Can make fantastic long lasting scents in CP soap. People fall in love with it and keep coming back for more. Sandalwood is expensive because it takes a lot of sandalwood to make 1L of it. Is why a lot of absolutes and precious EO's are expensive, like the sandalwood, jasmine, rose Otto, Bulgarian rose, chamomile etc.

Awsome! Being a Gen Xer, ( yesh I'm quite a bit older than you two, I think I have kids your age LOL) we had Christmas tree skirts when I was a kid. It hid the base of the tree. To start, you can try selling lower and take from your marketing budget. a lot of businesses operate at a loss or break even in their first couple years before seeing any sort of profit. That being said, don’t undercut yourself if you think your soaps are worth that $20 price tag ☺️

True essential oils begin to degrade at just 90 degrees, so there's no real point in going all out on expensive essential oils. They can't do what they could do before the heating up of your soap. It does smell nice, though. This is why we diffuse essential oils for therapeutic benefits. Diffusion is a no-heat way to make things smell lovely and also get the benefits of the oils medicial properties. This is not to say that it completely deletes the beneficial properties, however. It just starts to degrade. If you're super conscious of your Temps not getting over 90° then it could, potentially, not degrade. Gel phase is 120-130° so I'm sure that has some sort of effect on the properties. I have watched every single episode of your vlogmas and just adore you, Cale and your entire fur-family. I'm also going to plan a lunch trip to the Atlanta ikea. That looked dinner fantastic! The last time I was there, I couldn't find any swedish meatballs.

@@julieginn2822 hi thank you.☺️ I get tempted to use fragrances, but I try to stay true to my business model..less is more ...and it is more important to me to keep my products as pure as possible. Not all essential oils are expensive, in fact, many, are not if bought in bulk. Lemmongrass, lavender, lime, orange, aniseed, etc are very affordable. I challenge myself with aroma therapy classes regularly, and can come up with some pretty amazing blends and natural spice/coffee/herbal scenting.I do have sensitivity to a couple floral essential oils, but i just try to cure those soaps in another room.I am very careful with my temps when adding and do not encourage gel phase. Eo are expensive because it takes massive amounts of plant matter just to make an ounce of oil. I would never use fragrance oil in my bath products because they are one of the most toxic ingredients in beauty and hygiene products. They can contain as high as propriety ingredients, dozens of which are known carcinogens, endocrine disrupers, neurotoxins and immune toxins. I studied this in endocrinology and toxicology. Every time that I am exposed to fragrance, I have a multiple sclerosis flare, making me unable to walk and wanting to not be alive. I am the canary in the Cole mine. Not only would bringing them into my home make me sick, I couldn't subject my customers to that. Those who know the dangers, will pay the extra $ to avoid fragrance. Those of us who have finally realized that they are triggering our ails, have to go to great lengths to avoid them. This means avoiding certain public places, staying inside when neighbors do laundry, avoid people we love, not being able to ride in other peoples cars or go on planes. Think of all of the places where fragrance is. Even the places intended to be healthy, safe spaces like gymes and yoga studios. Imagine living with an anaphylaxis penut allergy and 8 out of 10 people spray penut protien all over their body and then walk past you in the store. . The fragrances are intended to last forever. The chemicals in the fragrance makes them stick to skin and fabric for years, even decades. I have to Ozone the clothes I buy from thrift stores because nothing else will remove the scent. Exposure to fragrance desensitizes the olfactory receptors in the brain, making people need more and more fragrance to be able to smell it. People who are exposed regularly have the inability to smell things at low levels, just like smokers. I hope that people will become more aware that what they think is a personal choice, is harming not just them but everyone around them, especially small children, babies and anyone with a chronic illness like autoimmunity. For those healthy, it is setting them up for chronic illness in the future. That perfume that you think smells lovely, can be smelled from the other end of the grocery isle 10 min after you've walked by and smells noxious to those who have not built tolerance for it. This world should be a place that we can all enjoy. Please take your own health and the health of the next generation and those around you into consideration. It is like second-hand smoke. We don't have a choice. Thank you for reading ❤

Also, if the health effects don't bother you, maybe the fact that fragrance is damaging to the skin will. They accelerate skin aging.

The reason they are so expensive is because of the process. Let’s say if u want lavender Essential Oil. And I don’t mean a fragrance oil or infusing an oil with lavender. Some ppl don’t understand that that is not an essential oil, that is an infusion. But an Essential Oil to get Lavender as an example u have to distill it with a copper distiller and the amount of Lavender Buds that u have to use is insane. U would need about 10 pounds of Lavender and when it’s distilled u get a nice amount of hydrosol ( I think that’s how u spell it.) but floating on top of that water is about 2 ml. Of the Essential Oil. So u would have to delicately remove it if u want that Essential Oil or u can keep it n mix it into the hydrosol. That will dilute it. That’s why. Some people think if u grab some flowers and let them warm up that they made Essential Oil’s but they have not! They are doing an infusion. The only way to extract Essential Oil and I mean a true undiluted Essential Oil is to get a copper distillery and distill it. And u need pounds and pounds n pounds for 1-2 ml. And I don’t know what Canada’s laws work but in the U.S to prevent ppl from selling fake Essential Oils on the label if it’s a true Essential Oil it must say Undiluted 100% Essential Oil Therapeutic Grade. If it does not say that the. It is not Essential Oil. It can say Essential Oil n if it doesn’t say the exact thing I just wrote then it is not an Essential Oil. But this is why they are so expensive.

EO’s a waste of money, they almost completely evaporate by the end of cure. I’ve tried FO & EO blends with little more success. FO’s are the best route

I've got an essential oil soap almost a year old still with a strong scent. No special considerations made with temp just added some clays.
