They tricked all of us, just like Pat and Pran tricked their friends! 49:46 To Pran's mom, the guitar always represented his relationship with Pat, hence why she hated him playing it. Her putting the guitar there for Pran can be seen as a sign of acceptance of him and Pat being together, especially after seeing Pat's dad not throw the misrouted mail away but place it in the correct mailbox as a small gesture. 55:21 There's the show's title again "Just a friend, friend". Thanks for watching Bad Buddy! It's definitely a comfort pick that I can re-watch over and over, and fall in love with Pat & Pran's story again. As for other recommendations: - Moonlight Chicken, especially if you want one that's slightly shorter with only 8 episodes, Last Twilight (featuring Jimmy a.k.a. Wai from Bad Buddy), and A Tale of Thousand Stars, all by the same director and GMMTV. - I Told Sunset About You if you want to see a keystone BL, but be prepared for some emotional turmoil. - Gameboys if you want to see a cute Filipino BL. - Love for Love's Sake for a good Korean BL. - Cherry Magic for a good Japanese BL (there's also a Thai remake of this one by GMMTV but I've not seen that one yet). - Love Mechanics and Jack and Joker if you want to see another Thai BL actor pair (Yin & War) with insane chemistry, though the plotline, especially in the former, isn't great. (Not by GMMTV.)

I just want to say that for those of us who watched *Bad Buddy* when it first aired, with one episode dropping every Saturday, this clickbait hit harder. oh my god i LOVED rewatching bad buddy through your reactions 😭 got me back in the feels cause i lowkey consider this series a huge part of me atp, its still so good even tho its not a really "new" plot in the bl world and thats because ohm and nanon did a wonderful job in their roles. i still remember when everyone was praising patpran for breaking stereotypes in bls (ex. they made fun of the toxic bl characters that call their male s/o 'wife') also, id LOVE to recommend another light hearted series thats called my school president, in which the main characters are played by fourth & gemini who are featured in one of the bad buddy episodes as younger students that look up to pat and pran. theres so many actors that are both in bad buddy and my school president that its honestly like a sequel 😭 geminifourth also acted in 'moonlight chicken' which takes onto more serious topics and has more ships so id also recommend that one ❤️

Thank you for you reaction of my favourite BL. It was quite a journey. Some people didn't like the end because they still hide their relationship and still talking to their parents. This is an Asian show even when the parents are wrong they can't disrespect their patents. But what we saw was that Pat and Pran choosed themselves over all of them. Them hiding their relationship was just to protect themselves. We also see that Pat isn't that close to his father anymore. He works with him but is distanced. In fact the parents now everything but also are silent about that fact. They just need more time. Pat and Pran will remain as my favourite ship. ❤

So what qualifies a BL series for the discussion about being an all-time great? It doesn't have to be perfect, and it doesn't have to hit in every area. But it has to consistently good at the things it sets out to do. Bad Buddy delivered consistent excellence, its occasional misstep easily forgiven. I deem The Feels as a hallmark of this genre, and PatPran are one of the best romantic gay couples I have seen from any country, any medium, any decade. Story and character are next most important for me, and, again, BB was consistently good. Any writer or director with a clear idea can execute a compelling premiere episode. Many a subpar series launched with a stellar debut episode. Sustaining the quality across 12 full-length episodes? That's hard! And however long the series runtime, the finale must do its job, too. As Olympic athletes know, a brilliant performance goes to waste if you cannot stick the landing. The finale ep was less than fully satisfying (as a generalization, BL writers are overreliant on time jumps to make finale plots bring things together. And this series already deployed a massive time jump in e 7), but it managed to bring the feels in the end--and _that_ in my mind is a BL finale's main job. Bad Buddy sits near the top of my subjective BL rankings because it avoided any major stumbles. Flaws in the story never subvert the world building or character development. The acting ( and kissing) was superior to what we expected from BL in 2021. The director's attention to small details was outstanding. Most of all, BB overdelivered on sweetness and The Feels. Even its product placements (most of them ayway) not only proved less disruptive than usual, some of them amped up the PatPran heat. This series just clicked. Few other series come close. Most other series ranked among the great exemplars of this genre also clicked, but few attempt to fill 12 hours-worth of screen time. Bad Buddy is one of a very few to sustain its brilliance across a duration that long.

I think the ep 7 time jump was only like a month or two. My understanding is that the architecture trip in ep 6 takes place in the break between freshman and sophomore years, and then ep 7 starts at the beginning of sophomore year.

As fun as the bonus scene is, the story concludes with the final balcony scene at their parents' homes. Present-day Pat and Pran playing with the tin can phones juxtaposed against their childhood versions doing the same. It was the perfect emotional beat to end on, signifying that these two always found a way. The bonus scene is simply a delightful lark, as effective a coda as any mid-credits Marvel scene. It exists just to be fun.

Romeo (Act III, Scene 5): "It is the lark, the herald of the morn..." and then he climbs down the balcony... With this last scene (a different sense of lark), we get a final balcony scene for Pat and Pran, as frisky as Romeo and Juliet in their 17th century way of flirting. And yet another competition. Ending with each capitulating to the other. Great final touch of fun after the true emotional ending.

That's right... The balcony scene made us feel nostalgia, it was sad to see the camera of this couple move away... It was also beautiful to understand that parents were taking a step to accept their children's feelings... The ending could have been this.... but I enjoyed feeling an energy, a happiness of living together in the last chaotic and funny scene... Really great emotional double ending !

I’m SO glad you liked the ending. Some people said they didn’t like it because they still had to hide, but it was a hopeful ending, like they will be able to be free soon, and I think that’s extremely realistic for the characters and the story they created. The acting was excellent, the humor was excellent, the supporting characters were excellent… it’s just an excellent show, one of my comfort shows. I don’t usually give recommendations, but I think you would enjoy My School President (GMMTV). It is set in high school, but I find it very funny, cute, and entertaining overall. There are multiple extras in Bad Buddy that have major roles in the show actually. This was so much fun watching with you and now I’m going to explore your Patreon!

I think the fact that they had to go back to square 1 was held against the show for obvious reasons that I partially agree with They were only public because they were cruelly outted however they handled it very well considering Pran is a more introverted person And just as we saw Pran having more confidence in himself and his relationship with Pat they had to come out to the parents which is a scary process in general but id argue that when you have a mum that loudly voices her disgust for the person you like and their family it's even more daunting She physically assaulted Pran resulting in Pran running away They came back and decided to lie ( which given past experience is more than fair) in my opinion they should've doubled down when they came back and said you either learn to accept us being together or our ( parent/son) relationship moving forward will be a fractured one The parents still being at each others throats is realistic sure but a little crushing at the same time PatPran wouldn't consider asking their parents to immediately take the sons boyfriend in with open arms and embrace the idea of a son in law because that is unrealistic What they do have every right to ask is whenever the son talks about their boyfriend or they invite their boyfriend over is instead of slagging them off how about keep your mouth shut or even better why not slowly get to know your son's boyfriend without having any communication with the parents But beeping your horns and acting like children is pathetic and I'm sure annoying to the neighbours The phrase If you've got nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all Springs to mind here

@ while I think that would be nice, the culture and situation they are in doesn’t really allow for that much of a stand. Respect to parents is a big thing there. For the duration of the show, they are still in their late teens and haven’t completed undergrad. Their parents are likely paying their tuition, as is customary, and they don’t have jobs to depend on themselves. No scholarships were mentioned. They probably could make it work, but it might mean taking a semester or year off, messing with their futures. On top of that, despite how awful it is that the parents are forcing their kids to deal with their nonsense, Pran’s mom has a legitimate reason to hate Pat’s family. Ming was the one who did wrong, but then decided to bully her family for years regardless and taught all of them to do the same. That’s not something you can simply get over and be fine with possibly being tied to for the rest of your life (how they ended up being neighbors is beyond me). I think at the end of the show the scenario you mentioned could start from there. But there’s a good chance they wouldn’t have been able to do that when they first lied about breaking up.

In case you didn't know, Ink and Pa have a little spin off series called 'Zero Photography' within the anthology series 'Magic of Zero' (no need to watch the other stories within Magic of Zero as they aren't related afaik) which is very cute! I love InkPa😭 Pat and Pran also have a little spin off series within Our Skyy 2 (which is also an anthology series offering a continuation for multiple BLs, and you again don't need to watch the other stories within Our Skyy 2). Bad Buddy did get paired with another BL in their Our Skyy episodes so it's a collab, but I haven't seen the other BL and the story still made sense to me. (Also, I am once again suggesting Sotus and Sotus S👉👈 It's an older gmmtv series so the quality is not as good, but it is iconic and was an important series in the development of Thai BL)

There are a couple of bonus episodes that are part of the compilation series Our Skyy 2, however they are shared bonus episodes with the series Tale of Thousand Stars, so if you're going to watch them please watch that series first. It's a fantastic series and you should recognise Drake who was Korn in this series. Episodes 7 & 8 are Bad Buddy and episodes 8 & 9 are Tale of Thousand Stars. The other episodes in Our Skyy 2 are connected to other series.

I can't believe it is over, i had so much fun revisiting the show through ur reaction and commentaries, as if re-watching it with a friend. I am looking forward to future bls or non bls doesn't matter as long as u enjoy the show. For the ending, well it was kinda compressed since the episodes are limited. Produced and filmed in 2021, Bad Buddy did a number of things that BL series did not normally do. The list below details some of the ways Bad Buddy broke the mold BL series had been expected to emulate as a BL series. It wasn't necessarily first to do any of these, but the items below were still uncommon in the genre at the time the series aired. Some have since become components of the new and improved BL Mold 2.0, but others remain rare. Bad Buddy played a role in normalizing all these shifts. Did I miss any? Add your nominations in the comments. • Casting an established actor (Nanon) in a BL role: When the series was announced at gmmtv's annual event, the casting of Nanon caused a stir. Just because he had established himself as a top-notch performer already. BL was the domain of inexperienced rookie actors, not a suitable career choice for actors with long resumes and proven ability. On the one hand, the idea of "BL actors" was always silly. Actors should be capable of tackling any role. On the other hand, it is clear that the Thai entertainment industry kind of ghettoized BL leading men, making it difficult for them to "graduate" into lakorns or other non-BL leading roles. Mere months after this series wrapped, Up Poompat fronted *Lovely Writer* . (Both series paired their "veteran" non-BL actor with a partner with BL pedigree.) Since then it has become more common to see respected actors accept roles in BL series, up to and including _both_ leading men from *Spare Me Your Mercy* , which ended last week. Nanon's casting helped catalyze this shift. • Ink: we expected female friends to be villains. Obstacles to the main couple's efforts at coupling. Go dig up reaction videos (and their comments sections) made while the series aired. Many assumed Ink existed to pursue one of Pat or Pran and to behave like a jealous shrew while she did so. Nope! • InkPa: inkPa may not be a fully-realized GL couple. But featuring _any_ same-sex female pair was downright astonishing in '21. I sometimes wonder whether their slow-burn courtship was done that way just to five viewers time to get used to the prospect before it became "official." • The hotpot dinner chat about sexual orientation (e 9). Thai BL seldom unpacks sexuality like this. • Showing Pat realizing a same sex attraction as a process (e 5). Coming out to self is a real thing. Pat's light bulb moment may have been fast from the time he began to question, but the journey seems familiar. *Lovely Writer* aside, very few Thai series ever bother to portray coming out as a process of personal identity. • Early kiss (e 5). The rooftop kiss was memorable for many reasons. Among them: gmmtv was infamous for dragging out the couple getting together. When we settled in for ep 5, few imagined it would end with Pat and Pran taking such a momentous forward step. • PatPran an item for most of the series: likewise, BL series mostly portray the courtship phase of the main couple. The feuding friends and family story frame enabled the series to put them together earlier, while also kind of remaining a show about courtship. • Flipping top and bottom (ep 11): so ingrained in BL is the ludicrous notion that a gay male pair has a designated top and bottom that the explicit (verbally! Verbally!) acknowledgement that PranPat switched things up was quite refreshing to see. • Did away with the penultimate curse trope. E 11 is something altogether different. • Resolved main plot with two episodes left. The last two eps kind of play like Bo us episodes or extended epilogs. • Korn and Wai do not become a couple. Everyone is gay! Not here. • The entire friend group doesn't turn out gay. See above. • Adapted from a novel, but the adaptation freely alters the storyline to make a better TV project. Few fans object to these changes. (Often , fans of the novel resent such alterations and complain bitterly to all.) The novel's ending kind of works for a written medium. It would have made for awful television. Aof recognized that and altered the story.

I’m still too new to BL to really differentiate much from this list, but I’ll definitely keep it in mind for future reactions. However, the thought of Korn and Wai becoming a thing would have completely thrown me off LOL! To reiterate: the four episode arc Bad Buddy x A Tale of Thousand Stars in Our Skyy 2 slots into the BB continuity between ep 11 and ep 12. During the period Pat and Pran posed as a broken couple publicly but remained steadfast on the sly. (Unseen events from this episode's pesky four-year time jump!) Nothing in those episodes contradicts the events of ep 12.

And if you're interested in this director's works I recommend " A tale of thousand stars" that was released before Bad buddy, and " Last Twilight " that's star in Jimmy aka Wai. and that's the ending :(( wow, i remember i cried a lot. that last scene that was actually so funny, i was still crying and then i was laughing while crying and it was a mess~~ hope you can react to more gmmtv shows. honestly, not all over them are good like this one and it's a question of luck to find a good one. the recent ones are focused a lot on sex. it's basically just smut inside a lazy plot (those are always the most popular, it's annoying). some are a big mess that somehow become popular because of one scene or two, or because the actors. some have great storytelling, but not good acting (most bl actors are chosen for being pretty, not for acting. i know, it's bullshit, but that's a big flaw in the thai bl industry). some are a heavy caricature with character behaving like anime characters. i particularly dislike those the most because i find annoying, but lots of people enjoy so maybe it's something you would like. one i truly enjoyed was "he's coming to me". it has ohm (pat) and is directed by the same director of bad buddy. good acting and great story. i used to love "sotus" and it's popular after all those years, but i think people cancelled it idk (and it had something that annoys me in bl that is men calling other "wife"). and, look, i know you are probably going only for the bl, but "the gifted" is the best series from gmmtv. everyone knows that. it's insanely good and the main character is nanon (pran). it doesn't focus on romance at all. and this one is a taiwanese bl, but i'm pretty sure you would enjoy. it's called "make our days count". it's BEAUTIFUL. and i would love to hear your opinion about the ending :)) and btw if you ever feel interested in reacting to three korean queer stories in mv format, there this "underground idol" project made by a queer friendly group. as you may know (or not) korea is a super homophobic country with zero representation in mainstream media. this group made this whole project and it's actually really beautiful. they call it "BE series". three stories, six music videos, each song by a different member. 1. begin - 2. be free - 3. be mine - 4. because - 5. beat - 6. beyond. just mentioning it in here in case you ever get interested or just want to check out. they write nice little notes in the description too like this one: "Among the countless lovers in the world, there are also lovers that couldn’t be blessed. For whatever reasons. Religious reasons, things like parents’ disapproval. I dedicate this song to all those lovers that couldn’t be blessed." well, that's it ❤

I also was surprised Loveley Writer has gotten so few mentions. It has a "how the sausage gets made" aspect since it is about how a BL book gets converted into a BL series. So I think it works better for a viewer who has seen a few. But with Patreon included, Fabi is reaching that point!
