This is such a helpful video. I have one more trimmer tip. If your cuts are fuzzy but you don’t have a new blade yet and your trimmer has a score blade as well as a cutting blade, after you make the cut, keep the paper in place and run it over with the score blade. It will smooth down the fuzzy edge until you get that replacement blade!

I always flip my cutter blade to get more use out of it! **TIP** I mark it with a black dot so I know I've already flipped it so I don't flip it again! 😁

My kindergarten report card actually noted "cannot cut a straight line with scissors." Apparently, that's something I've never overcome in half a century. Thanks for these tips!! Now if I can just get better with my fussy cutting - yikes! 😬

Great tips, thank you, I only have the use of one hand, the use of tape to hold paper in place is a great idea, just bought the spellbinder and think it is one of my best buys, love your vidioes and tips and as a Brit I adore your accent

You are such a great, natural teacher Maymay. I'm guilty of being a top-down cutter and if I don't pay attention to anchor the paper with my left hand I can definitely get going crooked. You did convert me to sinking the blade in the middle for doing sliver cuts, however...I've loved that tip so many times. Love the trick of taping the paper down for a slim strip of paper.

I want to thank you so much for your way of teaching and the details you use . I have learned so much. Still fairly new to paper crafting and fascinated by what you can do with a piece of paper. Your southern expressions take me back sometimes and I scratch my head last week it was something to do about shucking or husking the corn. Great entertainment as well.😊

Absolutely the best video on paper trimmers.I own two paper trimmers which I absolutely hate because I always get crooked cuts and it's just not the trimmers🤣...thank you so much...I had gone back to cutting with an xacto just because of how frustrated I was with trimmers

Great video! I seriously need a scoreboard tutorial, I can't keep the bone folder in the right groove unless I push hard but then it tears my paper! I need to say in the groove, I know there is a score board with raised grooves instead of the regular indented tracks but I have been looking for ever and don't know the name of it!

Someone showed me to cut a 1/4 inch strip of white paper and stick it under the ruler on the transparent slide arm. It makes it so much easier to read for aging eyes. You are a brilliant teacher MayMay!

I’ve learned so much from you over the years about using a trimmer. But your last tip about being consistent is my favorite. I saw you share that tip in the last year or so and it’s changed everything! That and synching the blade are my favorites. Well, I have been watching your channel since you started. And amongst others I have watched hundreds of 'paper-videos', but you are the only one showing the cutting advises. My favorites are cut-down-to-up-against-the-barrier and the diagonal-start-in-the-center tricks. Thanks for sharing in a straight video !!! 🙂

I love your tips and tricks videos as much as the crafting ones. I learn a lot from them and often save them in my library to go back to them. Sometimes I don’t even realize I had a problem with something until you do a video and show an easier way lol Thank you so much for these. ❤❤❤

I participated in your February club craft Thursday and found your sidearm ruler measurement to cut the slits very helpful. I didn't even know there was a ruler on the arm of my trimmer or the purpose of it until that moment! Hahaha! I did discover however, that the arm of my trimmer moves slightly up and down creating a 16th of an inch error in cutting those slits if I'm not careful. Do you have a solution for that? Thanks for all your great tips. I learned a lot. BTW...I use a Dress My Craft trimmer.

One other tip, MayMay. When you find a good trimmer that you're comfortable with, stick with. I've been at this for almost 25 years and am on my 2nd trimmer. My guide wire snapped so I had to replace my 1st one. I got as close to the same make and model as I could, it's never let me down. I do have a rotary trimmer for the heavier things like chipboard, I'll have to give my glitter cardstock a try in it as well. Thanks for a great video!

I have a fiskars trimmer that I've used for vinyl for over 5 years now. I just started doing cards and none of my paper over 4 inches was straight. I discovered the arm is off just a tad. It didn't matter for vinyl. I got a new trimmer and problem solved.
@craftingwithclydene104311 ай бұрын
If you like to cut down, flip the whole cutter so the arm is closest to you. As a bonus, because the ruler is now close to you, if you have sight issues, you will probably be able to see the ruler better!

You can teach an old dog new tricks! Great informative video, Maymay. I did learn something and I've been using trimmers a long time. My daughter thought I was absolutely crazy when my Tim Holtz rotary trimmer arrived (I have a few trimmers) so I pulled out my heaviest chipboard, cut it perfectly, AND without any effort. She had to agree that it was a necessary addition to my collection of trimmers.

It's from you that I started sinking my blade. Thanks. I got fed up with the dent on the edge of my thinner papers. Well, of course, sink the blade in the middle! I use a sturdy straight pin to clean my track out of paper lint. Now, why didn't I think of using tape to hold my skinny strips so to cut them even further?🤷♀️ Those are the ones that really drive me nuts. With the finger guards seeming to get wider and wider with each new trimmer, it's impossible to hold those skinny strips still, even with sinking the blade, sometimes. All good tips, Maymay. Thanks much!!

Just wondering: I use the bottom edge to hold paper against and then pull down. Would this be the same concept as pushing blade up against the top? I do sometimes get a slightly off cut, however, I think I get lazy and am not “consistently” holding the paper firmly. 🤔🙄
