My thoughts on the Fenix vs. the Apple Watch Ultra! kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIfLd4tmjrd9jdU

Ironically I went with Apple watch for its accuracy in Heart Rate Sensor. I just train for running.

Great quality upload. 10 year garmin user here. I run ultras up to 100 miles and iron man. I’ve gone to the Apple Watch ultra and it’s nearly perfect for my needs. - the battery is weaker for sure, but takes you through what you need. I do charge whilst taking a water break, that is admittedly a pain. - the hr accuracy is pin point accurate and surprised me, but looking at lots of reviews it makes sense. The garmin was garbage for HR accuracy - GPS is as good on the ultra as it was on the fenix 7x - WorkOutDoors and Athlytic apps made up for the lack of garmin metrics - all those smart features like cellular, calls on the go, Siri, the calculator etc are great - I do miss the flashlight on the garmin, but the Apple Watch ultras screen torch is pretty bright - locked into Apple with the Watch… - all that said…. I loved the look of the garmin and it’s one app does it all method- I’m going ti give it another month or so and make up my mind for good

Thanks for weighing in! The Ultra looks really interesting and appears to be taking a direct look at Garmin. I haven’t tried one yet but it does look like a nice upgrade.

Which watch have you decided to keep? Can't decide :) the applewatch has inconvenient synchronization with sports services. Workoutdoors can't sync workouts from any of the apps. Working with routes is also inconvenient. But the apps run very smoothly on AW and there are interesting health apps too.

Is the garmin forerunner 255 a better watch than the apple SE model?
@robb.sutton8 ай бұрын
Completely depends. I would say that the video holds regardless of model in most cases. If you are in the Apple eco system, it makes it hard to go Garmin if those are features you want. If you are HEAVY into outdoors activities, the Garmin has more options there.

Great comparison! Would love your recommendation still for my scenario: flight nurse…. That likes to hike, like safety features and text ability on watch, but will be wearing watch on 24-36hr shifts (and not a fan of short battery life). Does garmin offer ability to access a “quick” timer like apple (to time between meds) and is there an option to add a quick note to log time for a reminder when a task was done? That would be a game changer. TIA!!

I am actually posting a video about the Garmin vs.the Ultra this week. That might help as well. Sounds like the standard Apple Watch might be struggling on battery life in your scenario where the Garmin or the Ultra wouldn't.

i used both...and returned the apple watch.. i cant stand charging and caring about it...till its a 10-day battery and rugged...i'm not converting... its a classic toy vs tool story...
@JB-hq9yj Жыл бұрын
Garmin markets itself as a tool but all their metrics are based on garbage sensors.. their HR accuracy is atrocious and their gps unless using dual band is not great compared to Apple. The Apple Watch is not a toy it’s actually accurate, sleek, and under the radar… but seems like some need the Garmin to feel more masculine or more sporty I don’t get it.
@ankurd2889 Жыл бұрын
@@JB-hq9yj i'm sure when you watch apple TV wearing these apple watch...these great sensors give apple great insight about human likings etc.. unless its a 10-day battery, its a shiny toy.. i did a 8-hour cycling-day yesterday...after 4-hours i didnt have energy to even record anything.. you want me to think about fruit-watch battery as well..?? No thanks brother...!!

@@JB-hq9yj that's what ramblings are..!! And I don't mean to pick a side or nothing..but I do long hours and can't worry about the thing..the thing has to work for me..and Garmin gps alone is atrocious..I agree..but dual band is the gold standard..watch DC rainmaker bruh..!!

@@JB-hq9yj the HR sensor is not garbage. Literally side by side with my Apple Watch. Guess it is different from person to person and how you wear it. But it is definitely not garbage for me.

Good video Robb, I have worn the Apple Watch for a long time and I recently upgraded to the Ultra, game changer. It's like a Garmin + scuba watch + Apple Watch. I have been super impressed with it, it's basically its own phone.

I really need to try one out. Looks like a big upgrade.

I have an Apple watch 8 and will be buying a Garmin probably the Vivoactive 5. My Apple watch keeps going dead on me. People tell me stop this function and that function to save battery, what's the use of having all these functions if you have to turn them off all the time. I like to track my sleep but I have to charge my dead watch every night. I always carry my iPhone with me for walks, spinning or weight training so I guess I don't really need an Apple watch, my bad. All I want is a watch that will last a week without requiring constant daily charging.

Great comparison Robb. You said you surf, can you give your opinion about surfing with a Garmin. I already have an Apple Watch but am looking to upgrade to either the Apple Watch Ultra or a Garmin Fenix 7x. Cheers from the UK
@robb.sutton Жыл бұрын
I haven’t used a Ultra yet so I can’t comment there. I do love the Garmin for surfing though. It has its own tracking settings for it where the other Apple Watches didn’t.

I have both and still think AWU falls way behind Garmin multi sport watches. No offline maps and even with the extra battery life I would never take it on a serious outdoor trip. AWU feels so heavy on my wrist, it becomes uncomfortable after 2 days of wear😢
@robb.sutton Жыл бұрын
The latest iOS update did bring offline maps so that is a plus. However, for a serious outdoor trip...I do agree the Garmin is better.

@@robb.sutton true, forgot about that since the watch is back in the drawer😂 no trail info for us in EU which is a bummer. Lets see what next year brings🙂

Great quick video. Give it couple of iterations and AW Ultra will be there at par with Garmin, hopefully. Garmin should buckle up otherwise they will end becoming like Blackberry. Personal views :). Subscribed

You could be right. The Ultra was designed to go right after Garmin. Hopefully the competition just makes both better but the BlackBerry reference could play out.
@UrbanArmed2 жыл бұрын
As one who owns the Ultra and the Epix 2 the apple watch isn’t even close. Yes, more battery life but it’s still just an improved smart watch. No on device maps without third party subscriptions, and battery life for multi day backpacking trips is still a no go with apple. I feel like the ultra is a gimmick because it doesn’t offer anything extra other than the screen, some extra battery and an action button which is pointless because it’s not dynamic.
