If you would like to grab a copy of ANY of my MAPS, click here: jamesbrave64.gumroad.com/ I also have some exciting news to tell you soon, about a program that just contacted me called: Young Australians Artistic Program that said they would like 1 map (of my choosing) to go into a travelling Showroom with other people my age, and it heads around Australia. I wonder which map to choose?

I am an artist with 25 years of experience in various fields of art and I find your work extremely valuable. Not even necessarily from the point of view of autism. This is a kind of map of inner space that is hidden behind a layer of street plan. You could discover it if you took tracing paper and added more layers to your maps describing places. The plan is created freely and then you add your own interpretation, this is the hidden map of you. There was a Polish artist Roman Opałka, who painted pictures filled with thousands of sequentially written numbers. They marked the passing moments of his life. With you it's similar only you replace the moments of life with mini stories of the city. And underneath is your world. Very intimate, interesting and intelligent.

I do like the idea of hidden maps. I'm going to give this a try. Maybe tell some stories on the map with tracing paper - like why St. Cook drowned there - or take the map back to 1950 and see what it looked like when America just settled there. Thank you so much for your comment and 25 years of mapping experience - YOU LEGEND!

For the streets going North South that are short you can do letters or numbers giving an example in Lincoln Nebraska they have some streats with letters than others following another random theme.

Awesome video as always, I thoroughly enjoyed watching! I love city planning too, but I mostly draw smaller scale maps that don't show every road or just transport networks, but have planned some to street-level too. It's really cool to see your creative process and own techniques to map-making! Also I would say LHD but that's just because I'm British lol.

Aayyyee‼️ this what’s up 🤩Have you considered using artist/drawing glove and large sheets of paper or perfect binding lay flat sketchbooks instead of spiral bound sketchbooks? 😮what are those sections called that you sped up on 30:28 and 33:21? How do you know what direction everything is going?👀🙃
@paperskylines6 ай бұрын
Oooh Artist Gloves sound cool. But I wear them for Autistic Reasons, I have a peculiar thing that I must have something on my hands, head and feet at nearly all times. Normally it's just a sweater pulled over my hands when out. Has driven my Mum nuts for years. But I'll research gloves. The direction, I would say you know is intuitive. Not sure what's at 30:28 and 33:21 - it's the new housing development or mostly housing (mixed zoning). If you could tell me more I could assist you better?
@Antisympathy6 ай бұрын
@@paperskylines oh ok. I thought you were wearing the gloves so that your hands wouldn’t stick onto the paper in case your hands sweat. For a smoother experience when going across the paper is why I suggested the gloves because it seemed like there was a lot of friction and stiffness when you moved your hand across the paper to make the map in my opinion. You know what I mean? The square/rectangle like shapes on the sped up parts at the time stamps I mentioned are the sections I’m referring to.

Here's some lore I came up with: -Donut beach is called that name because since the foundation of the city the people used to reunite there using inflatable donuts. You could see how all the water was covered in donuts. -Saint Cook’s Shore is named after a famous medicine man who settled with his little hut in search of a hiding place from the law. After one year or so he was famous for curing all the disease in town. When he was found by the police, he asked if he could go to his hut one last time. After some minutes the officers entered the hut just to find that the saint Cook wasn’t there and hadn’t left any trace of his destiny. In town the legend was that God took him to keep him safe, so they called him Saint Cook. -Clifton bay is named after the founder of the city, James Clifton. -Grand Admiral Drive was a war hero born in the city.

This is amazing, I can't believe how simple it is to start one of these. If you ever need a name for a poorer suburb or housing commission area, I would suggest "Chamberlain Heights." Reasoning being it has the air of semi-luxury. That being how a lot of Victorian Housing Commission Estates were named and i am victorian. Edit: Also apparently they named them like that to subconsciously make the residents feel more "normal and middle class". Also apparently to try to stop the public housing stigma, that obviously didn't work. Edit 2: Left hand drive, as it is just superior.

another one: the culture of the location greatly influences its road layout and others. USA? large grids, large highways, less bike lanes and everything centred downtown. europe? spaghetti road layout, more bike lanes (u forgot to add them), multiple family houses... south asia? more focused on pedestrian, small vehicles and boats. i recommend giving a look into maps and open street maps, since road layout can greatly vary depending on the plan of your city. when drawing downtowns, draw buildings, sidewalks ad bike lanes since its downtown, it should be more complex at 10.30, the third beach is almost impossible to naturally formate unless phoenix sea is a lake, half of it should be mountainous opposite to sea flow to protect the sandbars you should try more complicated interchanges, they can tell alot of your city urban planning watch urban planning videos such like not just bikes, city nerds and more... okay? see u in your next guide pal!
@paperskylines5 ай бұрын
Thanks, I just read this, as the second RAW LIVE one is coming up. I was mapping it LIVE tonight. Thanks for the beach at 10:30, Imma research that to learn about the formate, One side is a LAKE, but the Phoenix Beach isn't. Crazy physics on that section then, like in Cities Skylines.
