The country twang kills it for me. Not that I'm one of the downvotes or anything, and not saying the girl can't sing, but as soon as you get that country twankery in there, it ruins it for a lot of people.
@jeffmcclure4047
@jeffmcclure4047 3 ай бұрын
@@kyleh1127 I agree she has a good voice but the twang in it when you are used to hearing Stevie Winwood singing makes it a completely different one and this version has way too many instruments playing. I will say you can easily do much worse than Chris Thile on a mandolin if you don't have Clapton with a acoustic guitar. He is phenomenal

What I love about this vid: The band is instantly sooo tight, you get to see her leave, you get to see her get washed away into "the zone". Musicians talk about trying to get into "the zone". It's like a trance. The whole band goes there - feeding off each other. It's so easy to drift into this vid. To me, this is the zone where God given talent gets taken over by God - like He's using these instruments - and the whole thing goes from just a song to a river of sound and emotion, where you just leave this place and get washed away. Thanks for this!

I wouldn't down vote it, but I don't think she particularly embodies the song. It sounds good, but there's more to landing it than that. There's a pain component, a sense of damage, that doesn't come across. The beauty in this song is not in its prettiness, it's an expression of something that has little to do with any kind of beauty at all. That's where this version misses. As I said, I wouldn't down vote it, but I can understand why someone would.

I was driving home when I just happened to catch this performance on the radio-the hair on the back of my neck stood up at the first notes, and turned to full blown chills before the song was over. Probably not the safest state to be driving in, but I’m not complaining. I did make it back home, after all. There are a lot of covers of this song, but this instantly became my favorite. As well as making me an instant fan of Rachael Price, the band, and the whole show. Every one and thing seems just exactly right to me, but I want to call out Brittany Haas for her particular perfection here (maybe just because Chris didn’t… ;). I was actually disappointed to find there was no fiddle on the Blind Faith version when I revisited it, though I really should have known better (guess I was thinking of Sea of Joy… um, yah, that’s it…). Thanks for posting this by itself like this, still gives me chills.

There are about 10 or so songs out of many that are off limits to cover or re record; this is one of them. Normally; however Rachael and the band knock it out of the park. Perfect rendition. I can’t speak for Mr. Winwood but I can’t help but think he approves of this.

@@AcousticOne If you want to dream while you're wide awake [and who doesn't? :^) ], I attach a song by Tom Petty when his band was named Mudcrutch. The name of the song is Crystal River. It has a tempo straight out of The Grateful Dead, and a recurring riff reminiscent of one found in The Doors' This Is The End. Methinks the thumbsdown comes from two places. The first is from mental children who get off on pushing that button for some reason. The second is from people who have a very particular orthodox idea of how a song should sound. If you don't play it like they heard it on the radio, they don't like it. I think one of the things that makes this a great song is that it's so full of room to make it your own. Search this site and you will find a hundred covers of this tune with everything from full stage orchestration to one guy with a guitar. That's one thing that makes a song a classic.

No, the best cover is Haley Reinhart’s acoustic cover of Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home” kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJOxcoeLdsh2bdE Haley Reinhart Born with an old-soul, of parents steep in music and raised with love and great music of the 60s and 70s; she can scat, yodel, growl, whistle, do riffs and runs; can sing any genre well, has incredible vocal range and control, with many unique inflections and the ability to transition from light ethereal tonal qualities to raw growly rock or killer jazz. Her voice is truly an instrument or medium of expression and her musicality is just incredible - she is so emotive and effective in interpreting lyrics - she sings the words like she lived them.

Huge Rachel Price fan...and this is not one of her better covers. Her voice is as beautiful as usual, but it's missing all of the emotional center. Without Winwood's searing, lonely despair and ache that gives his vocal in this song so much power, it's just a beautiful melody. Her best vocals are the emotional opposite: warm, sensual, connected, even in love with the subject of her singing. Compare her vocal to this (and it's not just his age that makes this so good; he was singing it this well at 21 when it came out): kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6C2n2WPYsdpras
