Can’t Partition (Option Greyed Out) External HDD on Mac Fix | MacBook, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro

Apple is so stupid. They require you to select journal to partition exFAT into multiple pieces and you can select exFAT back when you are done splitting the volume. This clearly shows their UI design is just confusing. Thanks for the video.

Whew - too HOURS to get this done. I was about to take this new external drive back to the store. I could not figure it out on my PC either. I have been using both laptops trying. Who knew that you have to go from Exfat to Mac - then back to Exfat?

It just won't work for me 512GB SD card on a MacBook 2013 I get error couldn't modify partition map -69874 I've erased it with EXFAT clicked first aid the card does work on my windows laptop is 512GB not compatible?

On my disk utility when I go to erase, I have no scheme drop down menu. Thus I have no open to change it to GUID Partition. Any thoughts on why this is or how I might fix it? I am running OSX Monterey

I am trying to partition a USB thumb drive - once I set GUID partition I see partition is now greyed out anymore but when I click it it says can't be resized and no way to make second partition. ???

FYI When you format something, it will be deleted, find a backup or recovery program that can help back up the data first, then format after.

i have an external HD, i was using on my macbook pro, it has every photograph i have taken since 2012 on it, i had taken it to work thinkin i could upload everything on to a cloud drive but it wasnt compatible with windows pc, so i brought it back home but before i could do anything it went missing. Finally found it plugged into my sons xbox, when i took it out and put it in my macbook it said it is unsupported. on disk utility the partition and mount are greyed out. the partition map and smart status say Unsupported, also tried it in a windows laptop and it shows up in device manager but not in the file manager. is there any way i can get this working and get my photos back? is there something my son has done on his xbox to change how it works?

Hello. I formatted my 5TB drive as exfat. But then I realised my SmartTV won't recognise it to play videos. I attempted to erase and change to fat32, but it just makes 600GB of that and then says the other 4.4TB is purgeable space. I've erased over and over again, and every time it shows the full 5TB on exfat but only 600GB when done as fat32. I'm baffled. :(
