What are total testosterone vs free testosterone levels, can low testosterone cause ED? Does taking testosterone cure ED?

======================================================
WHAT ARE TOTAL VS FREE TESTOSTERONE LEVELS?
98% of the body’s testosterone is bound to either sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG), or Albumin (a blood protein). The other 2% is known as “free testosterone.” The free testosterone is what contributes to cell replication in the bones and muscles and creates facial hair and a deeper voice with puberty. Total testosterone is the grand total of all the hormone available in the bloodstream (bound and free).
HOW TO INCREASE FREE TESTOSTERONE LEVELS?
There are two ways to improve free testosterone levels.
1. Increase your total testosterone level with exercise or supplementation.
2. Reducing bound testosterone. Vitamin D and Boron are thought to lower this.
IS YOUR TESTOSTERONE LEVEL TOO LOW?
To establish if the testosterone level is low for you, a number of factors have to be taken into consideration - eg your current symptoms, your age, other chronic conditions medications you take.
Low testosterone can be caused by:
* Diseases of the Pituitary gland,
* Opiate medications
* Problems with the testes
* Chronic medical conditions, especially obesity, sleep apnoea, diabetes, and liver or kidney disease.
HOW DOES TESTOSTERONE AFFECT ERECTIONS?
Erections depend on testosterone, but we don’t fully understand this relationship.
Some men have healthy erections despite testosterone levels being well below the normal range. What we do know is that the same causes of low testosterone are linked to the same conditions that play a role in erectile dysfunction - such as diabetes, obesity and heart disease.

Bonjour Docteur, I think I could have a subject for a video, in the off chance you need one. My mum has been interested in natural remedies for decades and she gave me a few things over the years. One of these is magnesium chloride. It's something a french doctor studied on his patients some 100 years ago, for its ability to heal wounds. Quickly his staff noticed it would give them energy and they were all taking it. The story of Dr Delbert can be read in french but I don't know if there is anything in english. Anyway, I started taking it, because at 50+ my sleep was sometimes uneven. It's a very cheap product, Nigari salt, from Japan I think. What I wanted to say, is that it seems like it has this funny side effect I could notice in the morning. Yes, that one. Not that I complain about it. A few years ago, I would have added that it is strange that such a product is still virtually unknown, for it may have very interesting properties against a log of very serious conditions, yes, the big league ones, but today, the corona circus has shed some light on the medical establishment and even more on the scientific community at large, and the picture is not pretty. Anyway, some day, some one, will read this and act on it, and that could be his lucky day. Good night !

I'm 55 yrs old been a Diabetic for 15 yrs. per my Urologist I inject 1 Mil of Testosterone every 10 days for my low Testosterone. My Doctor also has me taking 5mg Cialis daily and 100 mg of DHEA. I also take 10,000 grams of L-arginine a day I take 5,000 grams at Breakfast and another 5,000 grams at dinner. The combination of all these supplements and medications has me feeling like I'm 30 years old again. I can tell you this if you have ED Testosterone won't help you it only helps with the desire what you would need is something to help your circulation. If any of your viewers think they have ED they should check their Testosterone levels first then go from there, A Urologist can map out a treatment plan to help with the ED and or low testosterone.

One thing I was told by a Urologist was that once you start Testosterone replacement your own Testosterone production goes down to nothing. So that once you start the replacement therapy it is a for life choice. You cannot ever come off of the replacement therapy as your body does not restart it's production of Testosterone should you stop the replacement therapy. This is something that you should add to this video. And the replacement therapy is expensive unless you are willing to give yourself a shot. I found that the Testosterone gels are expensive, several $100's per month. Whereas, a shot every two weeks runs about $15 per month. This is something to consider if you do not have a money tree.
@svartvist
@svartvist 4 жыл бұрын
Well, yes it does tend to suppress your natural testosterone. But when your own level is down in the swamp--mine was at 159ng/dl when I started replacement--there's nothing to lose--except GoodRx coverage.

Psychological causes to be considered for ED. Most of the time ED creeps in from sixth decade. Most of the time these men have no issues with a new partner. So basically they are too bored with same old partner . New partner really helps ED in certain percentage of the cases.

Thank you Dr. Sam Bailey, I found this video very educational and informative. Speaking as an impotent man I would be interested in looking into this as a possible cure/aid to my impotence. Out of interest is it normal to have a low testosterone level at late 20's / early 30's period? Thank you once again Dr. Sam Bailey
@DrSamBailey
@DrSamBailey 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your comments :) Your testosterone level should be relatively high in your late 20s/early 30s. The reference range for the testosterone tests will take your age into account however. If you have low levels (but are in the normal range), I would not be concerned about this. However, if it is below the normal range I would talk to your doctor further about having more tests, to determine why.

@@DrSamBailey Thank you for your kind reply :) For the record I am 31 years old, and started suffering from erectile dysfunction when I was 24, though at first it was more mild and occasional, while now I am completely impotent and unable to get erections. Medically I am Type 2 diabetic and take no medication, other than diet and fitness. I have hypertension and take Ramipril for that, I also take Propranolol on occasions to help with my anxiety. I have had various blood tests inc testosterone, and while I believe its lower than average I am not fully sure if this is the case or what my levels are? Also not sure if its related to impotence or testosterone production, but I do have a much smaller than average penis and possibly testicles? Thanks once again Dr. Sam Bailey :)

Hi there, I'd see your doctor to have a full panel of bloods done to work out what is going on. You should have normal erectile function at your age, especially since you have well controlled diabetes and high blood pressure - I think there is something else going on. Sometimes it can be related to betablockers - I'm not sure if it coincides with taking Propranolol?

Accupuncture, maybe of help, in releasing blockages of energy in the meridians - it worked for me, once, & the practioner, freaked out, as they 'felt' the adjustment, as well as heard it + that session, also released a ' body memory, of a trauma - the release, lifted my torso, off the table, about 3-4 inches - again the practioner freaked on that, even though they had been advised, of the trauma, as they saw the body hit the table & heard the noise of the' flop'. No problems since the needed adjustments ; xrays, had been done, with "no damage ", showing.

I could write a book on this subject, wait I am doing that. You made one state many about prostate cancer. I had that back in 2005 and ED followed and I found only two ways around that. Shots and implant. Still, have you done any study on the ratio between male hormones and female hormones that might lead to ED and or prostate cancer?

If you want to fix sexual disfunction, focus on what your doing, lose weight by eating right. Hit the barbells, and start aerobics. You won't need all that other crap that has side effects. It works for me, in my 70s.

Hard to listen a female doctor talking about ED. Who better than a man to talk about men's issues? The remedy against ED is to have a girlfriend like Dr Sam, but they are so hard to find.

Thanks for this video. So vitamin D is good for testosterone? And can one have to much testosterone?
@DrSamBailey
@DrSamBailey 4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Larry :) Yes, Vitamin D has been shown to help - good to get out in the sunshine. Do you mean is there too high a blood level of testosterone? Or if you are on replacement therapy is there too much you can have?

I am still waiting on blood work results myself. But was wondering the effects if the testosterone was above normal?
@DrSamBailey
@DrSamBailey 4 жыл бұрын
Normally the blood results just come back with a level like >52 nmol/L..ie it won't say an absolute reading over a certain point. It will give you a reference range of what normal levels should be you eg 9.0 - 25 nmol/L. If you are much higher than that, it is not good for the body long term. Side effects can be acne, high blood count (polycythaemia), prostate pathology and possible vascular disease.

Thank you Dr. Sam. Here's to hoping for normal results then. Thanks for your time and explaining everything. You are doing an amazing service.
