*The "Kyle is wrong!" FAQ* 1. For the mega-selfie, because of the Earth's curvature, the Flash would have to be standing on something over a dozen meters high. That's why I didn't say exactly 18.6km -- he'd have to travel a bit further than a straight line would dictate. 2. In these examples I am only considering the photons that hit the Flash the moment he's at the location he poses. I am not considering all the photons that hit him while he's running around, causing streaks. 3. These won't be perfect pictures (streaking, blurring, etc.), but the Flash would be in them! Something stood out for me early in the video when Kyle said the camera would only fall about the diameter of a small molecule... Wouldn't the vacuum created by Flash moving his hand away from the camera increase that? There's also the fact that everything has it's own gravity so when he pulls his fingers away, the camera is going to want to follow the gravity created by an infinite-mass finger. For some reason I'm just especially inquisitive today. Feel free to poke holes in both of my theories :)
@faruksemihsahin10 ай бұрын
I dont know if you are still around after 6 years but thats the reason Speed Force exists. It doesnt only protect The Flash. It protects us mortals too. It creates an aura (similar to a bubble) around him so that he doesnt become a black hole with infinite mass when he runs resulting probably the whole solar system (in a couple of hours) collapse into him :).

The flash could actually take a selfie with the 1×10^-12 shutter speed due to being able to time travel. So he could hit the button, time travel to right before he hit the button and be in frame, then run with the photons to the camera and catch it with a perfectly, non-blurry selfie
@ncmcchannel92147 жыл бұрын
He could just go back in time to when he pressed the button, because fuck the timeline
@andreaaraldi79196 жыл бұрын
I think that instead of the exposure time you should consider the input lag that occurs beetwen when the command to shoot the photo is given and when the camera begins to register it. If flash did what you said, he would appear only in the last "layer" of exposure, resulting into a super transparent and blurred figure.

It might be interesting to see what the Flash could do with a digital camera and the *"rolling shutter effect"* both from the perspective of creative photography and the maxim distance he could travel away from the camera.
@stacypovey57377 жыл бұрын
Err that's not how photography works. The Flash has to beat the time from when the button is pressed to the time when the shutter is open. The shutter time expresses how long the shutter remains open and so is how long the flash must remain stationary for there to be a picture of him equal in density to an object in that had been in position the whole time. If it were a high speed video he has to be even faster to move in the time between frames.

If you take into account the delay between the press of the button and the actual shutter action, it would probably need to make a lot less distance from the camera. Not to mention that the smartphone cameras are rolling shutters and not real DSLR shutters so in theory they could create some weird visual effects :)

The metal Yondu's arrow is made from is called "yaka" on his world, and it appears to be unique to Centauri IV. In the movie universe, it can be affected by Yondu's whistling, so it must be capable of absorbing sound energy, just like the comics. But it hasn't shown any cutting ability on par with adamantium or vibranium, so I would say no. But he could cause it to loop around and stab Steve.
@Ytinasniiable3 жыл бұрын
Didn't the flash canonically outrun an instantaneous teleportation? And also cross the universe in something like a picosecond? In canon the speed force allows him to exceed the speed of light, so for him the limit technically doesn't count. He's basically the most broken serious character in comics. It's actually kinda silly.

Well, but Flash will be on that photo partially transparent. In case of 18,6 km he will be exposure for so short time that he will be unnoticeable on photo. Basically we will see background through him. If shutter is 1/8000 and Flash will be exposure (stay camera front) for 1/4 on that time that mean he will be transparent in 1/4. But all above is more or less correct for analog camera (and for global shutter sensors). However shutter in iPhone is rolling shutter CMOS (as far as I know). So Flash will be disappearing (or appearing) on photo. If shutter rolling from top then probably his legs will be best visible and he will be more and more transparent when going up. Because science! Don't get me wrong I very very like that channel!!!

I was actually thinking about flash the other day, I was wondering about the science of his phasing. In the show the speedster reverse flash is shown to phase his hand through someone's chest, squeezing their heart near instantly killing them. Would the flash (or reverse flash) actually be able to grab your heart/do any damage to internal organs whilst phasing as surely their hand would continue to pass straight through, the alternative being they stop phasing which would be a bloody mess...or scientifically could they control their phasing ability to do grab something whilst phasing through something else (e.g. phase through the ribs, grab the heart), or does phasing through someone's body kill them in a different way entirely?

Taking selfies as you describe The Flash would just be a blur in these photos. In order to appear properly in these photos the Flash would have to move very little during most of the 1/8000th of a second that the camera's shutter is open. Another variable you are failing to account for is the delay between pressing the button that causes the shutter to open and the shutter actually opening. This time is referred to as shutter lag. Even on the fastest cameras used by sports photographers shutter lag is measured in milliseconds, not microseconds (by the way the symbol for microsecond is μs, not ms; the symbol for millisecond is ms). Luckily for The Flash, shutter lag actually makes taking a hands-free selfie much easier. Shutter lag varies quite a bit from camera to camera. Sony reports that the Sony Alpha SLT-A77 has a lower than average shutter lag of 50 milliseconds, and Independent reviewers at Imaging Resource measured the A77’s shutter lag at 53.5 milliseconds. For comparison, Imaging Resource clocked the shutter lag on the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D at 117 milliseconds. With the A77 The Flash could trigger the shutter, spend 10 milliseconds carefully letting go of the camera without sending the camera flying (or superheating it with air friction) and still have 40 milliseconds to move 1 meter at an average speed of 25 m/s ~ 56 mph. When the camera’s shutter opens for 1/8000th of a second it will be falling at less than 0.5 m/s ~ 1.1 mph. The camera will fall less than a millimeter during the 1/8000th of a second the shutter is open, which means that The Flash needn’t worry about a blurry photo. Of course, for The Flash to maintain an average speed of 25 m/s over 40 milliseconds while minimizing acceleration and deceleration he would need to accelerate at 2500 m/s^2 to reach 50 m/s in 20 milliseconds and then decelerate at the same rate to stand still for the 1/8000th of a second that the camera’s shutter is open. Without the Speed Force The Flash would sustain a force of more than 255.1 g. That said, the human body has a much greater tolerance for horizontal (perpendicular to the upright spine) g-force. Indy Car driver Kenny Brack was seriously injured, but made a full recovery following a 2003 collision where he survived a reported g-force of 214 g.
@MinybjuMC7 жыл бұрын
I'm calling rubbish on the last bit. There is no way a horizontal photo can be taken that would reach 18km. The only way this could be possible is if the flash were standing on a planet with at least a circumference of 598,750 km, or there is some altitude. If the latter, since the flash cant fly or run on thin air, he would have to travel further than 18km, to make up for the distance travelled in altitude. (not to mention the time it would take to stop running, and turn around to pose for the photo)
@Nerdist7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sorry for not mentioning this. Barry or whoever would have to be standing on top of something dozens of meters high, and therefore could only take a photo from 18+km - that vertical distance. -- KH
@tizzlegaming86887 жыл бұрын
the flash has actually run on thin air before and also in a vacuum, hes also capable of running way more than thousands of time the speed of light so he could do any of the selfies mentioned in this video.
@JayJohnson3047 жыл бұрын
Healergirl2 he's run on air before do some research before you type
@MinybjuMC7 жыл бұрын
JJ Johnson air doesn't have enough tension to run on, or can not cause enough friction to propel him forward. At best the flash could run on clouds. (Huhduh flash has been written to be able to run on air, you are wrong) he has also been written to run across the universe faster than instantaneous travel. With realistic settings the flash can't travel on air, just like we limited him to the speed of light for travel speed. Do your research first before commenting stupidly
@89ludeawakening17 жыл бұрын
There's no need to do research Healergirl2. You are destroying your entire argument when you're trying to use real world logic for Flash. In canonical material he has traveled thousands of times MFTL, so that's what you would go by. When you're referring to the Flash for anything, he should not be limited to light speed. He's a fictional character, so why ground him with real world physics?
@richie67997 жыл бұрын
I've got a new video idea for you about the flash, *"Is the flash bulletproof?"* When the flash is getting shot at he can move so fast that the bullets almost freeze in mid-air. so when he goes to catch/move the bullet, he has to move either at the same speed or faster. if he is moving as fast as the bullet and he goes to grab it, shouldn't the bullet go right through his hand? it would have the same impact as it would if the bullet was travelling directly at his hand so if he were to touch/grab the bullet, he would have to be bulletproof. another thing would be, how would he grab the bullets or anything if his suit is frictionless? I hope you explore this idea because I really want to see what you think. thanks for making these videos, I love them all. they just tickle my nerdish heart haha :D

The Flash absolutely can take a photo with that super-fast-exposure camera, and here's how: 1. Position the camera, do not hit the button. 2. Get into position and pose at super-speed. Hold pose for a few femtoseconds or so. 3. Return to the camera AQAP. 4. Time the button press so the photons from the desired pose are getting there right when the camera is exposing. 5. Flash would have to sit in the targeted area the whole time the shutter is open to be completely clear. Otherwise he'd be blurry or faded. Not sure of the delay from pressing the button, the focusing on object, to opening the shutter to begin collecting photons. He would have a hell of a hard time with ones that focus on objects in the distance and getting the device to activate it's shutter.

You could easily get away with a slower shutter speed, I think even 1/1000 might be viable, the flash would have to stay still a little longer, but it could still work (or some other shutter speed between 1/1000 and 1/8000). Also worth considering from the Flash's speed of reference, there would be a noticeable delay between the shutter button being pressed and the shutter opening, giving him yet MORE time to be in the selfie, this would be a downright TRIVIAL thing for the flash, or even a reasonable Kryptonian to achieve.

You assume that he is focusing the camera before the picture, meaning that all of his time is spent with the light not traveling in the right direction, this means that you are right when you say "it would depend on if the photons make it to the camera" but what if he possessed first? he poses, used his speed to rush over, aim the camera and snap a picture, He wouldn't even need to go back to the group because he would be taking picture of his reflected light photons from where he was before he took the picture.

He should appear transparent in some such photos because some of the light hitting the camera left where Flash stands before he gets to the location. It all depends on how long he is standing there, especially as a fraction of the total time the shutter is open.

In one episode of the show he took a picture with his friends be running to them after pushing the button on the camera. But it kinda bothered me because the picture wasn't blurry

Shutter lag is the key here, not shutter speed. It takes time for the camera to process trigering the buton (for my sony A58 it is 326 ms). And mega zoom doesn't help at all. Think about telescope. Photons going toward the camera left long time before you pressed the shutter button.

COUNTERPOINT: The flash doesn't have to outrun light, but the camera shutters. All he has to do is press the button to take a photo, then before the shutter opens, he runs into position and poses. And once the shutter closes he goes back to pick up the camera. What really matters is the time it takes between pressing the photo button, and the shutter opening.

ok so i just saw this vid and there seams to be one thing people are overlooking that would make it impossible for the flash to take a selfie, and that is the fact that the electricity he emits when running at super speed would fry the camera. Makes you wonder how he still has a cell phone that works to begin with.
@EMBer30007 жыл бұрын
That max distance selfie would be extremely blurry and faint due to the VERY short exposure time, even sensitive digital cameras need more than single photons to make an image.

Kyle, I need you to scientifically explain to me the ending of Titanic. I wanna know a mulititude of things. 1; could Jack actually have even gotten onto the door? 2; would he even have the strength to do so after the amount of time spent in the water? 3; Tell me how Rose didnt freeze shortly after him. Thanks man. ps. This is literally themost important question and it will determine the name of my first born.

One tiny problem. If you limit flash to the speed of light then surely he would have to start ahead of the camera lens in order to get the 18km away before the light gets there. Starting behind the lens as seen at 5:08 would mean he would very briefly have to out run light in order to beat the photons to the destination.

the dude cross the entire universe in a instant though so many times faster than light no camera could pick him up even one as impressive as 1 trill framerate

The flash draws speed from the speedforce, he ENTERS the speed force when he goes super fast and keeps accelerating, because the speedforce is pure speed he is not affected by the environmental factors from going fast, otherwise his fast movements would cause fires from the friction, and cause the sound barrier to break. If he did get affected or cause an effect on the environment, he would destroy it completely

How strong could The Hulk get before he risks destroying the planet just by moving?

OK, so three questions. 1) If he took the selfie, ran back with the photons, then wouldn't the photons hitting him as he ran bounce into the shot, too? Making a big Flash-smear in whatever part of the frame he was running in? I mean, close-up, it's not that big a deal, but running the full 18.6 or whatever km, it's not like he could run out of the frame perpendicularly and then to the camera, right? I might be wrong. 2) When Flash gains mass accelerating close to the speed of light, would his steps getting traction on the earth to accelerate further start screwing with plate tectonics? 3) Am I the only one who didn't look at the "Muskwatch" logo for a long time and thought it was something about sasquatch? Probably just me.

I see a lot of you smart people here like The Flash and maths/physics. Soo... can you help me here? There's one comic, at the end of Mark Waid's run, where Wally West needs to disarm four bombs in few different locations. He goes from his hometown Keystone (Kansas) to Gotham (New York), Metropolis (also New York), New York City (obviously NY) and then Atlantis which is somewhere in depths of Atlantic Ocean. After that, he goes home and states it was around one second. When he was disarming the bombs, everything around him stood still. How fast was Wally?

What about the response time of the camera? For a real camera, there's a period between the button being pressed and the shutter "opening" then there's the exposure time, during which the photo is actually taken. For the ultra-fast shutter speed, that response time is going to give Flash a significant chunk of extra distance to play with...

My only issue is the lag after the shutter release is triggered. That would give additional time for the Flash to get into the frame.

Flash can manipulate space/time, move forward and backwards in it so he could be in multiple places in the same instant. It's how Time Remnants are created, but it's not recommended. Flash's powers are godlike in that regard as his time manipulations have created entire alternate universes.

Hey Kyle, I have an idea for a video. Given how big the dragons are in Game of Thrones, considering how much food they would need to eat, how many of such beasts could an island the size of England sustain?
