as a gamer who deals with fps everyday i certainly notice the difference between 60 and 120 hz. 51 hz is just the speed when our eyes satart having the illusion of movement if frames on a monitor show every 1/51 th of a secind. but humans dont work like cameras. humans can certainly make out the difference between 60 and 120. which means in camera terms the eye can at least 120 fps

Have to take into account the decay and turn on time of the light source. If you would do the same experiement with incandescent lightbulb you would get a much lower frequency probably. The 50 Hz standard in EU was based exactly on that reason so the lights would not flicker. Also im thinking that a big array of lights, the size of a computer monitor, would have you notice the effect probably at a higher frequency. the last sentence is just a theory but your could test it if you build the same thing but with a big LED panel that has halves switching.

The human eye can physiologically detect up to 1000 frames per second. The average human, tasked with detecting what framerate he/she is looking at, can accurately guess up to around 150 fps. That is, they can see the difference in framerates all the way to 150 fps.

have to agree 300-500fps if i can detect the difference between frames up to 400-500 fps then how can you say we can not aee at that frame rate. saying that would be like saying that a camera with a shutter rate of 60 is technically only able to recors videos with 15 fps which is just lying as you can see each photo within the video 60 times a second (60 photos within 1 second)
