I purchased one of these a few months ago after watching a different review. I also bought the Solarsaga 60 panels. When I received the E500, it was at 30%, I set up the solar panels and waited 7 hrs for it to hit 100% (70% in 7 hrs is okay with me). I run my CPAP with the heater off, and I can use it 3 to 4 nights (5 hrs on average per night). So if I run it 1 or 2 nights, then set it out to solar recharge, I am in good shape. If I get in a bind, I can charge it through my truck (It has an invertor for 120volt), or I can charge it by cable that I made with Anderson connectors and hook it to my truck battery. When I am at home, I plug into my shore or house power. I have never drained the E500, but I imagine it will charge pretty fast through the AC of my house. I am very happy with this product.

Awesome review. I’m going to sub. But I wanted to just update those who might not know. The Jackery 500 in this video is not the latest generation. You can tell by the logo at the top right it is the unit. The newer version of the Jackery 500 features an MPPT charge controller and not the cheaper and less efficient PWM controller. Which means the MPPT version charges about 30-60% more efficiently on the same solar panel compared to the older model. I’m sure my comment could have been worded better, Im no expert lol.

But honestly, all I use is a battery powered radio, my cellphone, and a battery fan. But having the large Jackery I can expand to plug in device if needed. Also, I think people need to understand that the PRIME way to get max use out of the Jack is to fully charge it with 110 at home prior to going on your trip and using even an 80 watt solar panel as a way to keep it “topped off”. Oh shit bro, just watched the end of your vid and noticed that you said basically what I did. My bad bro. 👍🏾

If you get the DC power cord for your CPAP machine it will use much less power, about one-third as much power as running through the AC inverter. I have a jackery 240. I do not run the humidifier or the heater on my CPAP. 9 hours on CPAP only takes it down by 35%. Recharging Jackery 240 with my own 100 watt panel only takes about 2 hours. I have also been using a couple of different branded 500-watt our power stations. I can run my Dometic 35W for about twelve hours on either of the 500WH power stations that I have tried. I have never drained any of the power stations down below 20% and I have never had a problem getting back to full charge with my 100 watt panel. longest I ever had to charge it was about seven hours of sunlight.
@Qwonk4 жыл бұрын
One thing I noticed about the Jackery is that the input wattage is not always accurate unfortunately. Mine was doing the same thing yours was doing but worse (it was stuck at 0 watts input after any kind of shadow got casted on it). I am doing an RMA and they honored their warranty. Still a great product though... also mine had an issue where the battery was stuck at 100% and required a hard reset to show accurate battery percentage

@@HeartInspections Hi Brenda... I use a Resmed Air10 and there is an excellent handout all about using batteries for their devices. They recommend a "Converter" (DC to DC) rather than an "Inverter"... they can explain it all better than me... www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents/articles/198103_battery-guide_glo_eng.pdf . There is no one-answer-fits-all because the pressure of your unit and other factors contribute to power use. If you don't have a Resmed device then check your manufacturer for their specific recommendations. The reason I didn't use my humidifier was I wanted to see how long I could stretch it out without a recharge... I figured 7 days was good enough for me so I stopped the test. Did you ever try seeing if the MPPT recovers to pulling max power? The unit is trying to optimize for peak power. If you draw too much current from a shaded panel the voltage will collapse and you get less power out. But the algorithm should test driving the power back up otherwise a cloud goes by or someone stands in front of it you’re gonna be penalized which is dumb.
@enigmaticnomadics Жыл бұрын
I never ran that test, James. I agree with your reasoning. These portable power stations just keep getting better all the time, so I expect that to be addressed, if it hasn’t already. Very astute observation.

@enigmaticnomadics5 жыл бұрын
Yes Brenda, A longer cord will cause voltage drop. Just try to keep it as short as you can. If you’re planning on mounting a solar panel on your roof, you may as well go ahead and get say a 140 W panel and MC4 adapters to plug it into the Jackery. That would probably be best for your application. Best of luck!

A 2000 watt gas generator with a couple #10 gauge extension cords so you can move it 30+ feet away would be a far less labor intensive move. Otherwise, I’d go with 1800 watts of solar with the proper solar controllers (3 100/50 victrons for instance) #6 copper wire, 60 amp 12v breakers and 6 100amp battleborns would do it, as an off-the-cuff system. If you use it for the CPAP, get the 12v converter and not use the AC-DC power brick. You’ll get a lot more use out of it. My CPAP takes a regulated 24v input. I bought on Amazon a compatible 12v-24v converter and uses a lot less energy

Did you receive this for free from jackery in exchange for a review? Do you receive compensation when someone uses the promo code? Have yet to see an honest review where a person paid for this product and could produce a receipt.

This is how reviews work Odds17B. Companies compensate reviewers in one manner or another for their time in exchange for an honest review. This video required two days of filming and editing. I stay busy enough without adding things like this to my plate. Here's the main point. I only choose products that have good Amazon reviews already and that I think have potential. I turn down review offers every week because I don't like the quality of the product or they aren't something I would normally use, have nothing to do with traveling, etc. If I post a bunch of bs reviews in exchange for free gizmos, it's only a matter of time before my channel goes away. I have to sincerely believe in a product and be able to look you in the face later if we meet and know I didn't steer you wrong. I've actually refused a review after getting a product and it didn't sync correctly with my Bluetooth as it should. I ended up turning down a lot of money in that case as a result.

Since I am mostly an urban camper, setting out a solar panel will not work with our law enforcement in Oceanside California 🤣💜

Great joke, but it’s a Norm MacDonald original. I have told it myself
@enigmaticnomadics4 жыл бұрын
Never heard Norm tell it but I adapted it from one a buddy told me. He probably got it from Norm if we followed it back far enough. Dude! I totally am not a joke writer! In fact, folks seem to dig these so much that I might just start looking them up online and putting credits in the notes. Have a good one!

Save your money. Buy solar panels and a couple of batteries. I have 3 Jackerys.2-240s and a 500. All are less than 5 months old. The first 240 I purchased works great and when charging by solar will accept the full wattage that my solar panel puts out. If a cloud moves across and lowers the output as soon as the cloud moves on the wattage moves up again to whatever max wattage the panel is putting out and this 240 charges to 100% in no time. My second 240 does not accept the full wattage that my solar panel puts out. This 240 maxes out around 31 watts and I have yet to have it charge to 100% in a full day of sun. The 500 works even worse. When first plugged into the sloar panels it accepts the full wattage of the solar panel until a shadow crosses the solar panel. When the shadow is gone the 500 will max the wattage out 40 watts. If you unplug the 500 from the panel and plug it in again the wattage jumps back up to whatever the solar panel is putting out. On a even a slightly cloudy day I have to constantly plug/unplug the 500 so it will take the max wattage my panel puts out. To date the 500 has never charged 100% after a full day of sun. I am lucky if it charges up to 39%. Jackery claims that both the second 240 and the 500 are charging normally. I say that if my first Jackery 240 accepts, lowers and rises back up to the full wattage output of the solar panel so should the other two. Needless to say the second 240 and 500 are being returned to Jackery. With the close to $700 invested in them my money is better spent on a few more solar panels and a couple of house batteries for the van.

Dude! You make great points, but make them shorter so folks read all of them. I totally agree that there is no real substitute for a legit solar system. Some folks need realistic options that are more modest than guys like you and I. This power station is perfect for some. Keep telling it like it is. I like guys like you on my channel. ~Jamie

This is really great additional info. But what explains diff btwn the 2 240 units? Also do u know if u can charge off prius battery any more quickly?

I think my battery or panel gets confused as well when the shade thing happens. I unplug it and plug it back in just in case. Seems to work better in situations with no cloud or shade interruptions.

@Jamie. Jamie...I was going to call you Dude! but that sounded kind of rude. I am a woman who lives in a van. Until recently, I did not have large solar panels- only 3 small ones about 15 watts each. I charged my Jackerys from the cigarette lighter. I simply relayed my experience this week charging the Jackerys with the larger solar panel. And I believe that I see the same issue in the Jackery you were demonstrating. And for the record, it doesn't get too much more realistic or modest with $1500 to your name and being unemployed on the closer side to 60 years old.

@@clarekelsey496 The exterior markings of the Jackery units are different meaning that the decals are different both in location and looks. As to the interior works....I honestly do not know, except they work as different as night and day. Your Prius question is better put to someone who knows and understands a Prius or another hybrid auto.

I have the Jakery 500 with a 50w renogy eclipse solar panel that puts out 80w and the jackery max charge is 81w I think so it works out good for me.
