In one of the biggest cases in Australia a cop was undercover for years. I don’t remember how long but it was a long time and he had to do a lot of drugs to gain the trust of the person they were trying to take down. When the guy was finally caught they paid for the undercover agent’s rehabilitation and when he was ready I believe he went back on the force

If the officer leveraged the target with threat of arrest or any other similar type thing then that could maybe be considered rape. Lying to some one does not mean rape. If They consented no one held a gun to their head figuratively and literally and made them do it. If they did then rape, if not...no rape. Consent matters regardless of the undercover agents intent.

My mom set up an undercover sting operation on me when I was 16. After 2 months I agreed to smoke a joint with an undercover who wanted me to sell him weed & cocaine -which I hadn’t ever done or knew where to get.

I'd like to add that there are other cases where it's legal to do things that'd otherwise be a crime. For example in Norway it's legal to break the law to stop a larger wrong, for example breaking a window to save a life (human or animal, for example to break into a car to rescue an over-heated animal or child or to break into an empty house to avoid freezing to death). Another example from Norway is that if you're too drunk to drive but the only way to get someone to the hospital fast enough to save their life is for you to drive them, that's within the law as long as the risk of you killing someone by not driving is larger than the death if you don't. A third is self-defence, but also then only as far as the minimum necessary to stop the threat

The USA has a similar rule for self defense, but it is mich simpler. We just break it into deadly force and non-deadly force. In general if someone raises any level of non-deadly force against you (eg punches), you can respond with any level of non-deadly force (eg punches and kicks). If someone raises any level of deadly force against you, you can retaliate with any level of deadly force (eg If they attack with a knife, you can respond with a gun).

wow. that scotland yard story is gruesome! that poor woman who had the kid from the cop, well, that ain't right at all! we had a local cop who was investigating a drug ring in my local jurisdiction who had an affair with one of the heroin addicts he was investigating. he got drummed out of the force, prosecuted, lost his pension, etc. all kinds of bad things. that's the way it should be. i think most american cops know that if they do such things, that's the end of all they've worked for. i think over here it's mostly about their credibility in court for prosecuting cases. i've known some cops over the years, and that's what they've told me.

Bob Lambert, the main officer in question actually did it twice, one of them women he was actually in contact with for years until she married some other dude. The officer was mostly force into it at that, he apparent had tons of regret about the whole thing.

Okay... Eragan, in case you want to be "serious" about this for a moment, the short short answer is "there are permits and licenses" to gather and keep in order. First, assuming money is no objectionable obstacle, the plain fact is that aircraft are covered by "Weight class" for licensing purposes (at least in North America)... Presumably this is practical around the world, though the particular details probably vary quite a bit from one country or region to another. In the U.S. there are classes of aircraft called "Ultra-light" that require NO licensing at all to fly. They still need certification from the FAA, which involves a fee and inspection from a properly certified Professional Inspector... However, you're NEVER IN HELL getting an Ultra-light Aircraft to reach "space" even in the limits of Near Earth Orbit... There simply isn't enough fuel capacity in the thing to attain that altitude at the best of times. Rockets are effective, BUT they're also HEAVY and DANGEROUS... SO... The financially effective answer would likely be a redesigned craft powered by rockets, and capable of independent flight even once the rocket fuel was expended... Such a mechanical wonder is likely achievable, BUT it's certainly NOT going to be an ultra-light class of aircraft by any stretch of the imagination. However, upon engineering and completing this craft, you still have to fuel it. Now, you can go ahead, once the "hard math" is done and get a legitimate license for the class of craft, by weight designation, so that part's covered. Fuel for rockets, however, is a two-part situation, fuel AND oxidizer agent. This enters a realm of explosives. and you further need certification for handling those chemicals past any amount over a pound (in most states)... Sure, there's a class of certification, but further training is required, and you also need hazardous materials handling training around it, and so does anyone and EVERYONE else involved in this project. Haz-Mat isn't particularly expensive, but the Industrial Pyro-technic licensing is about a thousand headaches... and a financial strain that... well, it certainly explains how coal mining gets expensive and unprofitable REALLY fast even without the legislation against it. SO finally, you're qualified and legally certified for being able to fly the thing, handle the fueling and oxidizer agents around it, and even credibly trained for all things regarding the detonation of the fuel-oxidizer systems onboard... It's still no small task to put it on the taxi-way... NASA and other agencies around the world have been fountaining junk and satellites into Near Earth Orbit for decades. It started out all willy-nilly, and nobody's spent a significant amount of effort on "How do we get that crap back down out of the way?"... SO there are fanciful protocols far above my paygrade to really tell you about... Basically, I know they exist, and that's why the world tends to know about EVERY country trying to launch a space-worthy vehicle, whether or not it's manned BEFORE they actually launch it. It's not necessarily more than a phone call and "tentatively penciling in a schedule" but I'm confident there's a fancy-ass technical term and several accountancy fees for handling the job, just to make sure you don't "make a date with destiny" and then back out all last minute and shit... Simply put, it's a policy to make sure Nasa, the ESA, Russia's cosmopolicies offices, and anyone with a satellite out there knows that you're going to be trying to fly wherever it is you attempt to get the thing... Once all of that is covered, and the world knows to watch out, you're coming up for a look... Provided you've covered everything properly, YES, it's actually fine for you to fly whatever ridiculous monstrosity you'd like to design into space for a thrill. Should you get the math right, you could fly legally to the moon if you wanted to... I don't think I'd recommend it on a maiden voyage, but crazier things have probably been attempted so... there's no law specifically against it. ;o)

You need about 15 permits as a non-government operation to launch a rocket from the U.S. including a fireworks permit. Most of us could never get these approvals. So, it is easier to beg forgiveness than get prior approval. Pursue your passions.

FBI differs greatly from local police, as for the large city cops they have a unit known as IA - internal affairs whose job it is it check out any suspicion of wrong doing and suspending any officer they think might be guilty of criminal acts.

The problem with forbbiding any kind of action from an undercover agent is that anyone with half of a brain can search and find what those prohibitions are, and then use it against a potential undercover agent. This could result anything from one failing the investigation to ppl dying for being found out. That said it is kinda ridiculous for one to elaborate such situation where your investigation would be at risk if you don't marry, and have children with someone. Marry me or die.

When he identified him as one of the 2 suspects, he pulled initiated a traffic stop fully aware that he had pulled a gun at the gas station. When he walked up to his car, he started reaching for something (his license/registration) , but the officer believed that he was reaching for a gun based off of his quick movements. He then fired, eliminating what he believed to be a threat. Although this could have been handled better, the shooting was not because he was black, and not just because "his taillight was out". There are hundreds of videos of leos getting shot and ambushed within seconds, with no time to react. Next incident?
