Sorry, but your Video examples don't Look cinematic at all and this is mainly because of your lighting... These days the new full frame cameras have a dynamic range of 15 stops just like film stock. BUT shooting in film doesn't give a cinematic look just by using it. You get the cinematic look of "Hollywood movies" by lighting like a direktor of photography. And therefore a photographers softbox ist not enough by far. Even at an outdoor shooting you need reflectors to shape the light to get cinematic looking pictures...

Hey Claus, thank you for reaching out with your opinion. I really appreciate it. You are absolutely right, however, I do feel like I covered a lot of what you mentioned in your comment, in this video, as well as in some of my other videos here on the channel. I actually have a whole video sharing tips for filming outdoors, and I talk about dynamic range in a follow up video. In fact, this whole channel is all about this and I feel like I've covered a lot of this already. I do, however, respect your opinion on my images. In my opinion, the word "cinematic" has become a lot more of a relative term these days. I believe that any opinion on that should be freely expressed, so I'm happy to hear your opinion. However, you should probably know that those were just simple images I created to test and show the cameras capabilities, including dynamic range, for those interested in purchasing the camera. I have plenty of other video tutorials on lighting and have some of my professional work here on the channel if you're interested in seeing a better representation of my work. Like I said at the end of this video however, it's not the camera that will get you a cinematic image, it's you the filmmaker, and the knowledge and experience you have working with all that goes into making a film and how all of these elements can shape the story you're trying to tell. So I would kindly like to establish that I actually never said that one will get a cinematic image just by using the camera. Thank you for your opinion brother. I really do appreciate the feedback a lot as it helps me to make better quality content for our viewers. I wish you all the best. Cheers!

This hardly looks cinematic. What a clickbait of a video.
@foxandcrowncreative
@foxandcrowncreative Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you feel that way man, but thank you for your honest opinion I appreciate it a lot! My intent is never click bait. But to provide free quality knowledge to equip and elevate aspiring filmmakers from my 10 years of experience working in this field professionally. Also, the term "cinematic" is highly relative these days. I am manly talking about how movies are made. To get closer to that look we would see in the cinema. These images are just simple examples I shot to illustrate the information I was providing within the video. Like the camera's dynamic range in a real life situation for example. I've added a few of the narrative films, documentaries and client work I've made to my channel if you would like a real representation of my work. As well as a whole lot of other free tutorials that can help you to get that "cinematic" style look for your films. As I mentioned at the conclusion of this video, the camera itself won't give you a cinematic look, it's a great tool that can really help, but it mainly falls on the filmmaker and the knowledge, skill and experience they have that will truly make a film great. I'm sorry to disappoint you friend. But I hope your day get's better from here. Cheers!

Hi Ryan, thanks so much for your wisdom and work. Truly appreciated. I have a question about color matching the FX3 and an A7IV. I'll be using The FX3 as my A, and the A7IV as my B. I'll be shooting both in SLog3. Ordinarily, I'd white balance them pop em both into PP8, but with the update to v5.0 on the FX3, that picture profile is gone. So, I've been using Flexible ISO and S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3 for the color gamut, without embedding the LUT file on my FX3. Any tips on pairing both of them in SLog3 to look pretty comparable out of camera? Or, if I just shoot a flat SLog3 profile and grade in post is that the simplest? Thanks so much!
@foxandcrowncreative
@foxandcrowncreative 5 ай бұрын
Thank you so much that truly means a lot! Absolutely, that’s a really great question. For me, I made a custom picture profile that was very similar to PP8, just with a few slight tweaks, and applied that to both cameras. Both cameras do have a different native ISO, and a slightly different color tint in the raw footage. But this helps a lot when I’m in post production. I also created custom LUTs and presets that I use for all of my edits which really helps a lot too, and from there I just make a few slight tweaks here and there to adjust for the shot and to color match them. This has been working really well for me personally and it’s really sped up the editing process a ton. I hope this helps! I’ll leave the settings from my custom Picture Profile below if you’re interested in checking it out. Thanks for reaching out my friend, and if you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know I’m happy to help! - Gamma: S-Log3 - Black Gamma: Range-Wide/Level-+4 - Knee: Auto - Color Mode: S-Gamut3.Cine

Do you ever just use PP8 instead?
@foxandcrowncreative
@foxandcrowncreative 8 ай бұрын
Great question! Absolutely, PP8 has a lot of the same settings and it's worked out really great. After a few years of playing around with my Sony camera settings, I've found that I just personally like to adjust my Black Level, Black Gamma and Knee specifically to settings beyond the presets for the work I'm doing currently. But It's totally not necessary. PP8, as well as some of the other profiles, are a great way to get awesome footage right out of the box. Thank you for watching the video and for reaching out! Cheers!

@foxandcrowncreative Жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely I'm happy to help! Whenever filming in the studio space with the A7IV I'm usually using the settings below: - File Format: XAVC S 4K - Frame Rate: 23.98 fps - Record Settings 100M 4:2:2 | 10Bit - Picture Profile: S-Log3 as well as all of the other settings mentioned in the video, like Black Gamma, Color Mode, etc. - ISO: 3200 - Shutter: 1/50 - Aperture: 2.8 - White Balance: 5600K I hope this helps! These are the settings I'm using most of the time when filming my videos. I'm actually working on a video specifically about how I make my KZbin videos, what settings I use and even how I color grade and edit them that I'm hoping will help as well. Let me know if you might have any other questions, I'm happy to help. Thank you for reaching out, it truly means a lot! Cheers!

@@foxandcrowncreative Wow!! thanks for the lengthy reply. This really helps. When I see the picture quality of others with the same camera doing a podcast they look dope! But mine is thrash even with a Tamaron 28-75 f2.8. Someone told me I need a good lighting which I have just placed an order for one. Thank you so much I really appreciate that a lot! That's awesome! Lighting definitely plays a huge part of it for sure. I have a handful of videos on lighting on my channel but if you ever have any questions on lighting I'd be happy to help. In terms of LUTs, I've actually created my own a while back that I use for all of my videos. I've been getting a lot of requests lately for them but I haven't been quite ready to release them yet. But only because everyone's situation is different, and I just want to make sure I'm always giving the best value I can for our community. With that said, I am currently working on those and I'm getting really close to releasing them soon! Just working on the final details. We have some exciting things coming up soon for the release of these, so stay tuned! I'm sorry that I can't be of immediate help, but again, if you ever have any other questions please feel free to let me know because I'm happy to help in any way that I can. Thanks again my friend, cheers!

Hi.. I am beginner. Looking for a camera. Is a74 an overkill?? Also was looking at lumix s5ii. Please suggest
@foxandcrowncreative
@foxandcrowncreative Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Absolutely, I'm happy to help if I can! It really depends on what you're using your camera for mainly. But both of these cameras a great for beginners. Both have trade offs in terms of some of the specs, but these are very small differences in my opinion. I have the Sony A7IV, and I mainly use it as a B camera along side my FX3, for vlogging and behind the scenes footage when on set of a film shoot. I love the A7IV and have a lot of experience with it, and the only issue I've had with it personally was it will sometimes over heat if I try and use it for longer recording times. Like filming a talking head of a KZbin video for example. But this has only happened once or twice in the time I've had it and again, I absolutely love this camera for what I use it for. But I just felt like I should mention that. I haven't had the opportunity to have any hands on experience with the Lumix S5ii yet. So I can't give you a full recommendation. However, in my research on the camera, I did find that the S5ii is very similar to the A7IV in many ways and its a little less expensive. I've also heard that you should be able to have longer recording times without it over heating, so that might be worth taking under consideration. In my opinion both cameras are great from what I've seen. I love the A7IV, but I am also just use to using Sony cameras. However, if these cameras came out when I was just starting out I might've leaned more toward the Lumix S5ii. But again, it all just depends on what you're looking to use it for. I recommend doing some more research before you buy, I'll leave a link to a video review by Sam Holland and another by Teppo Haapoja that I hope will help and give you more clarity. Thank you so much for reaching out my friend! Cheers! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnPKpZSho994pK8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2Wopa2Pd7aCiNk

Thanks a ton for the detailed message. 1 last question does Sony a74 has inbuilt settings for you don’t need to color grade in post. Less editing and more come the camera it self ?
@foxandcrowncreative
@foxandcrowncreative Жыл бұрын
Of course, I’m happy I could help! Yes, the A7IV has plenty of other picture profiles that don’t use S-Log that will get you started and be the easiest to edit in post. You can also alter these preset picture profile settings to your liking as well. I hope that helps, thanks again my friend!
