Do the bendable, Fasst Flexx MTB handlebars actually help relieve hand/arm fatigue, otherwise known as "arm pump"? I put the bars up against the other heavy hitter in the category, the OneUp carbon handlebars and came out with some interesting findings.

Hello Mr. Loam Ranger, I just thought I'd let you know that in a scientific setting, your grip strength data would be invalid because you did the test in different positions (for example the first one you did squatting down with a bent elbow, the next couple you did were standing up with a more straight arm). The standardized position for the grip strength test is standing straight up with your elbow straight and down at your side. It may seem nit-picky but changing the position you're in can change the amount of force you're able to put into the handle since you're changing the arm position and even a different body position can have an effect on things like blood flow. Thanks for taking a look at this comment :) - sincerely, a 4th year kin student

As someone who works with data acquisition, another addition method to quantify the vibration is to install an accelerometer at the bar's ends for both control bar and bar under test. Then analyse the vibration magnitude, and frequency spectrum against each other.

Also, I would imagine that arm fatigue isn't linear... the longer you ride, strength diminishes on a curve... in other words. I don't know for sure, but it seems likely. I would suggest testing the second bar with a day of rest in-between, to eliminate just being tired.

My hands, arms, elbows, and shoulders are 68 years old. I got the alloy 12 degree backsweep FF's (yellow compression and red rebound) and went to Moab. About 10 minutes into the climb on Hymasa, I was completely sold.....yeah, on the climb! The next day down Bull Run I kept thinking, "I remember this being rougher"! Fasst Flexx has a 30 money back guarantee. They can have their bars back when they pry them out of my cold dead hands!

When you have arm pump or impinged shoulder issues or numbness in the hands you are willing to try anything. I tried different grips (Ergon and Rev grips), swept-back handlebars, compliant handlebars, biking fitting to fix my issues. Trust me I don't grip too tight, for the most part, my hands float on the handlebars. After 6 months of no results and decided it was time to get the body into shape and focus on fixing the problem with physical training. This is the solution that worked for me.....This meant I needed to step away from the bike and let the arms and shoulders calm down. Massage and ART work helped get me back to ground zero. After 3-4 weeks of breaking muscle adhesions, it was time to fix all my muscle imbalances. I have a home gym that includes a pullup bar, workout bench, adjustable dumbbells, and multiple resistance bands. I broke down my workout into groups, arms, chest, legs, back, and shoulders. 5 days a week I would work two of the groups (4-5 exercises 2-3 reps each). For the numbness in the hands I including nerve flossing (stretching the arms and shoulders) to help break up adhesions (this works almost immediately). After 4 weeks of working out, I started back riding and continued to work out. I now included specific exercises to help with shoulder impingement and hand/forearm exercises. It's been 18 months of zero pain and no numbness..

I have had this bar for over a year now. To me, it's well worth the weight and money. I love having the extra cushion. I'll never go back to a regular bar. I don't care so much about his grip strength measurements as I do the OBVIOUS cushioning it provides that is immediately noticeable. There are 2 cons to these bars. One con is the price being about 3 times that of normal carbon bars. The other con is if you are using your bike to bunny hop around then the flex they provide does make it more difficult to pull on.

They should definitely do more rises.24mm rise is too little for me. they should add 30-50 rise too, I recently switched to 38mm handlebar, from 20mm. to get proper fit, but with this bar I would not get proper fit. so until that happens these bars are a no-go.I had Race Face Sixc35 and they damped the vibrations and made the bunny hops and drops a lot softer. but I needed higher rise so I eventually managed to find 38mm Burgtec High rise bar, but they flexed a lot less, they are harsh. I hope it won't be too bad, but I hope it will help with the back issues, they fit me a lot better.

I was an early adopter over here in the UK, I had to personally import. Yep... I agree.. these darn expensive bars work....( only tested the carbon ones). Worth the weight penalty....

@@nathanweisser shipping is $42 USD to Canada. Convert all of that over to CAD and you're spending about $450 dollars.. For ALLOY handlebars.. Add another $100 USD for carbon! I bought a used dirt jumper for that price. No thanks!

I chest bought a fuji Nevada 3.0 mountain bike and I noticed that the front shock absorber is not moving at all. I think it's seased. I tried to adjust it at it still doesn't work.

I would have loved to see the run timing data on all 4 runs, would be really interesting to see if the bars help you go any faster too?

Huh, does the plain handlebar also get to take credit for your hand strength being at its maximum before your first run? I'd like to see more data.

what color elastomers were you running? I am currently running the yellows which I feel are the best for general trail riding. With jumping you might want the reds..... Actually what about a test video where you do try the different elastomers

I'm using the red, top and bottom. Those seem to be the best ones for me and my riding style (I tend to weight the front pretty hard).

We need to know the times for each ride. Then we will know if they improve speed as well!

11:20 Raw data/test results. Nice method to get conclusions. Using hand grip Force as the parameter before and after the test runs is an interesting and convenient approach, but perhaps it's not as scientific as if the load was measured and logged real time in the hand grips during actual usage. Obviously having a measurement system to do this would be a major obstacle to getting some test results. Also there is a lot of variability between how somebody will do from run to run and day-to-day in the manner the data was acquired. Two runs in a given day is also not a statistically significant number. An individual's performance will vary on a given day as well as on a given run. There's quite a bit of spread in the 2 data points for each day. Hopefully no bike porn was watched before each test run... this could affect grip strength data :-)

I really want to try these but I'm not paying over $300 for some alloy bars. These things would sell more in the $200.00 range.
