Changes are important but not radical. It's NOT a change to planning laws, or planning rules, only changes to policy. So-called mandatory targets were never actually mandatory to begin with.

Charlie, thanks for this - we're relying on you to sift through the facts and figures which explain the real effects of Labour's economic and housing manifesto pledges. My main concern is about Labour's recent talk of the need to "borrow" in order to fund their proposed projects. Will more QE break the system, or can it be managed?

Of course, housing completions are down recently, what silly bastard would build at the moment and risk making no profit. Just split a house into two flats or HMO, make a profit, and make life worse for people. Developers can just sit on the land with a hole dug in it and sit pretty until the inevitable FOMO starts and people buy anyway.

It is all possible, but Planning has to be radically overhauled, interest rates need to fall, apprenticeships need to produce quickly ; and there needs to be incentives for the construction sector as a whole.

Has anyone bought a house that has been sold by Good Move? A company based in Leeds.

It's doubtful they won't need to add compulsory purchase to swell the housing stock and contractions equity as debt becomes more valuable. In socialism its personal not national debt.

And you can be guaranteed that if they do insist on CP, the target will be the elderly living in large houses, and not the House builders sitting on land banks or the wealthy overseas property investors with their empty houses/investments in major UK cities.

@@Dhoggy No, they won't CP these, they will just make them unprofitable to keep as a 'nest egg' via increased taxation [or loss of favourable tax allowances as the Tories did at the end of their term] unless of course you structure them in a company as the big insurance companies will do when the take over the BTL market.
