Pull Rite makes a great product. I had the slider without the feet that lock-in, and we had slight movement when starting and stopping, but with the puck system, I'm sure it's locked tight. It drove excellently with my truck and was easier to align than my current Reese goose box ball. That said, I love the Reese product. It's smooth but pricey and may not be for everyone. Options are great!

I am so glad you talked about ALL the variables, It VALIDATES what I told customer's FOR YEARS!! So many customers would tell me, "everybody has told me, with a short bed truck you need a slide hitch". "And you are telling me I don't". This played out over and over again for years!! You hit it on the head, 1) what truck, 2) what 5th wheel, 3) what pin box on that 5th wheel, all of those things determine 4) What hitch options are appropriate!!! One I'm retired now, Thank God.......and two, I don't worry with a motorhome!!!!

Great job with this very informative video! I’ve had a super glide since my first 5th wheel and shoebox run in ‘05. I still have a short bed F-350 and a second Super Glide. We do a lot of boondocking, dry camping on rough, uneven ground. The Super Glide gives us as much free board space above the bed rails, and true 90* turns. I went with the Super Glide over a lever release hitch because I know that I can tend to be a little lazy, especially after a long travel day. However there is one overwhelming better thing than their hitches….their customer service! They have bailed me out twice in the last 20 years(my operator error). I could write another several paragraphs about their care and concern with customer questions and problems.

One other consideration: as you move the pin rearward, you are increasing the weight on the rear axle of the truck. Not a big deal with a dualie, but a single rear axle 2500 or 3500 with a diesel might run out of payload.
@IreneIronTravels3 ай бұрын
Yes, very true! Thats one reason we love the Superglide. It’s over the axle while driving straight and automatically moves back while turning. Then moves back over the axle as you pull straight.

Ever since you went to Corvallis, Oregon to get the alternative cover to slide toppers, and also got the permanent ceramic (?) coating on your RV we've been waiting for the long-term evaluation of both of those--they weren't on the bumper-pull trailer you had (and now don't) were they? We're really curious about how both of those turned out. We love your videos and I've even used a lot of Chris's tips for cooking in a smaller RV. You guys rock! (We were right there with you when you bought the Ram dually--we had just gotten one ourselves and still love it for many of the same reasons you've talked about).

24 Ram 3500 short bed owner. My truck didn't have factory 5th wheel prep so I installed B&W turnover ball which probably the most common aftermarket, it would be nice to see some other hitch manufacturers offer a 5th wheel that fits into the B&W. I'm shopping for a new toy hauler & if I get a 5th wheel I'll probably put a goose box on it but I still want a lighter 5th wheel hitch for the truck.

We've had the crosswing for almost 2 yrs & 20k miles. No problems, and they recommend a dry lube, not WD40. One piece does need to be checked to 300 lb/ft of torque. Daddy needs a new tool. Does take some practice connecting, sometimes the nipple on bottom of piece on king pin doesn't want to seat into cup. Just off by 1 inch.

loved your video - thank you ... got lots from it. i am in process of transitioning from travel trailer to 5th wheel - i'm coming to the understanding that while nice to have ability to make a 90 degree turn it is not necessary for the majority of most "every day" 5th wheel travel ... if you were actually towing a similar "smaller" 5th wheel like the reflection used in this video coupled with the oex .. would this combination provide enough turning degree to have accommodated 100 percent of your recent (last year or so) travel ... i am trying to understand how much turning degree would be a min requirement in order to successfully move a 5th wheel in most situations.
@IreneIronTravels3 ай бұрын
We had a couple of campsites that were really nerve-wracking to back into and I don't think we could have without our slider hitch. But like we said in the video, being able to forward turn (on flat ground) without hitting is a big relief off the mental checklist. So I think it would work in a lot of situations.... but not 100%. So that's the reason we've went with the auto Superglide hitch. But I think the OEX makes a lot of sense for a lot of people/situations.
@lostsheepdown2 ай бұрын
We've been full time for a few years and it's definitely not necessary to turn 90 degrees. I've been close a couple times but just need to pay attention. We have the short bed Ram and have a GenY gooseneck. I would not give up my GenY and the use of my whole bed. It's awesome and you don't have the jarring of the trailer from slamming the 5th wheel pin into place. My 2 cents.

Good showing of the hitch, never been a fan of pullrite myself. The B&W is so much quieter then my pullrite ever was. I noticed when you set the ball in the hitch that you were done. I thought the law was that if you use a ball system that you have to use safety chains, is that not the case with the pullrite?
@IreneIronTravels3 ай бұрын
Thanks! Do you mean B&W slider? They don’t have an auto slider like Pullrite. I believe chains are law in some states with gooseneck style hitches, but not sure….
@OmahaWayne3 ай бұрын
@@IreneIronTravels I had the same hitch as you on my short bed then went to a long bed and have the regular B&W on pucks. The autoslider was so noisy on starts and stops. I heard it's bc of the frame underneath the box. The pucks go into the frame. The Ford frame is simply tighter.
