Personally I don't think you should speed up. There's normally some good background discussion and usually it's a fertile period for some suspect chat

Lion, this video perfectly sums up how I've felt throughout the past year being an Aztec main. A perfect rush with a diverse range of unit types, plenty of siege and early pressure. Sure USA turtled very very well but to not come out of that early game with an eco lead is disgusting. I feel like any other civilisation would've backed that up with even more fire power and destroyed America after three TC's. You see how barebones aztecs are, besides big buttons and some strong units they have nothing else to counter play after they exhaust their only somewhat reliable strat that is the all in rush. Its refreshing to see the same situation carry through to high elo, I am confused when you call Aztec one of the strongest civs in the game. I would love everyone's opinion on this and whether changing civ is the only option to be competitive. Love the vids Lion, a small channel that has all my heart

Hey man replied in discord, but basically Julian should have not lost so many units under towers and aged up to get arrow knights a lot sooner in my opinion, but was a good game

I think there is no need to fast forward few seconds. we can use it to talk about important things like New meta, which card deck both have, Maps resources, which kind of native we get in this map, Players Elo rank etc....as you always do. 😄

Feels like overcommitting after the first push was not good. What if julian just aged up to 3 and try to push it in with siege? He still had a big army and could still preassure it while aging

Booming is generally the best strategy versus turtling 🐢. So building Town Centers, Trading Posts, healing 🏥 with the warrior priests (Healing is about as value generating as a factory 🏭) , docks, spawning warrior priests, etc. would be the most obvious option. Also important to kill enemy Trading Posts and any other exposed buildings. The Warchief civs struggle with this though, since they become a lot weaker when the powerspike from their unit shipments and big buttons wears off.

After you spend all your age 2 military cards Aztec have no much boom options, for them is not as easy to Age 3 because the slots for crates of resources are always occupied by all the military cards you can accomodate 2nd age. Also they feel pretty slow in collecting resources, like having not the same technologies in market as non native make them too slow.

Imagine wasting so many units against 5 outposts. Why?!? Needed to consider his wincon here, and I don't think he did. Killing TC != victory. I don't understand where the philosophy changed, but at some point in the past I remember comments by players such as H2O saying forts kinda suck - because you just walk around them. Same logic applies here - lock US into the base, they've blown a ton of res on towers that don't do anything, skirmish around the edges and cut off their resources. Instead, players just bullrush straight into defenses for no apparent gain - you either need to be idling vills, killing vills, or killing military units in a +value engagement where you lose less value than the opponent. Julian just lost a ton of units to outpost fire and didn't seem to have an eco advantage to show for all the TC time lost by the US player.

He had significant idle tc time at some point I think as shown by village count graph. Also Irish immigrants and other eco cards helped revnak not fall too far behind

I feel like Julian's (only ?) mistake here was to not grow his eco a little bit more in age 2 (5 vils card ?). But I can understand why he felt the pressure to dive in. You simply dont wan"t USA to get to age 3 and get this gatling gun push

a lot of commitment towards rushing, usa did well on just keeping villagers alive + outposts. usually aztec eco sucks early on

A human player wouldn't have been able to pull that rush off that well. Also a human player would've died to that rush. These matches are something else. The narration is like watching a football match, full of enthusiasm. Love it!

It is not easy to hold one of the best rushes of the game executed by one of the best players of the game. This is a great example of how to Turtle properly to defend against rushes. Revnak is a beast :)

tbh the only way to beat aztec rush is to make literally 0 units and spam towers. making units you just waste resources to lose to 3x the mass, but the siege on azy is lower in the beginning. everytime i play as france i just make cdbs and towers and hold with a few shipments vs spamming units in small batches just to die

Why did Rev build TC with Vils when he had capitol.. he could have got a TC wagon.. also. I think it would have been worth going for that capitol upgrade that reduces building wagon cost by 25%.. he could have got TC in 375 wood instead of 500 from capitol.. and even cheaper outpost if he wanted to get more outposts

Honestly : Revnak did an almost perfect defense, yes, but still, he should have lost. Julian's plan was just better and he executed it almost perfectly too, and every civ in the game would have lost this defense given the same circumstances, except USA. Hats off to both players because it was a SOLID display from them, but it feels a bit unfair

not a perfect defense, 3 of his outposts were poorly placed. If he places them to fully defend TC and sends church goon tech sooner to kite and is smarter with mm, he could have defended the first TC

It's sad Aztec where turned in a All In civ for age 2, if you dont succeed in getting your enemy on that stage then is auto-lose for Aztec. For late game they conitune to be pretty bad vs Skirmisher + Cannon + Pike. Their lack of artillery is always noticeable and the nerf to the EWK simply made it worse.
