I use vinegar and table salt. Table salt can kill you, so I know it works. I drilled holes in a stump poured in the salt and then the vinegar. The stump turned into dust in less than a month. On my way out to do another now, someone offered to do it for $230. No way.

I used the industrial strength vinegar, epsom salt & dawn dish soap on 3 trees last spring/ summer. drilled holes as deep as I could, filled with solution then covered with dirt & mulch, some say to cover with plastic bag but I have too much wild life around for that. I repeated several times. My tree stumps seem to be dead, there has been no new growth and the bark has fallen. I also use this solution as a weed killer on sidewalks, driveway but not in flowerbed or garden (obviously)

Cool...Any idea on how to prevent a tree from growing taller instead..? I have two coconut trees that keep growing taller, I don't want to kill them, i just want to stop them from growing. I'm curious to know if watering them with a solution composed of water + 5% vinegar would do the trick

It's not a tree, but I'd throw in the Chinese Privet. It's very, very similar to what he destroyed here, and it may be the same plant. It's classed as a large hedge or small tree, but here in the South (and according to Southern Living website, from Maryland to Florida to Texas) it's EVERYWHERE. If you're familiar with kudzu, then this is the woody version of that, and like kudzu, a Chinese import. It's super-fast growing, and if you kill it residual seeds on the ground grow two years later. Very hardy, and I've had success with Brush Top killer, but I hate the toxicity to humans. I'm going to try the vinegar on some grow-backs I've got. The root system grows like in the video here, in a huge radius around the stumps, and I'd bet that those later growths he showed were from the same roots.

@Jordan-vx5op2 жыл бұрын
I've done that with molasses with great success every time!
@petersack5074 Жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. Drill the holes at an angle, and the main area of tree suction from the roots, is JUST UNDER the bark. The first 1/4 inch or so, of the actual WOOD of the tree. Holes should be facing a downward angle ; work WITH gravity, not against it. Epsom or rock salt, and a strong vinegar, DON'T USE WATER. Vinegar of 7 or more percent acetic acid, i use even 10 %. Cover those holes, to keep rain water, bugs, etc OUT. Tarp strap a large bag, over the holey area......for lack of better terms....

Did you know Roundup becomes ineffective once it hits the soil. Yep, soil neutralizes it. I learned that from a Master Gardener who is a retired scientist from USDA. As far as the snide remark about cleaning up the yard? MYOB. Dude lives in a rural area. You don't mow the forest. Didn't your mother ever tell you if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all? It's good advice. Use it.

We are seniors and I can't keep up with trying to spray the house to stop them. I am also worried that the roots are going to damage the house or our plumbing because this tree is so dam tall. Now if I get this tree to die, I am worried which way it will fall are we going to be responsible for the damage it will cause to other properties?.
