Can we choose where to fly? How a Pilots Life is Planned!

Welcome back to another in the life of an airline pilot.
In this video we are going to talk about what a month as a pilot looks like.
I'm going to give you the insides of how my month is planned, how much off days I had and how we request and bid for our schedule.
While we're talking about my schedule, you'll join me on a rotation from Frankfurt EDDF to Windhoek FYWH.
I'll take you along in the Cockpit of the Airbus A330 where you'll be able to see stunning footage of the night sky.
As an Airline Pilot the schedule pretty much controls you're life so it's important to understand how to bid and request your schedule.
I'll tell you everything i know and give one or two tips on how to properly participate in the planing of your schedule.

I was wondering as well where Pascal learned to speak English so well. For a German native speaker, it sounds exceptionally. Like a second native language. I hear some British influence in the voice though.

English is a requirement for all pilot. German and are from the same language family.

Pascal, thanks again for these great curiosities that are indeed tough to find as a pilot applicant unless you know someone who’s patient enough for all the questions! 😅 The 33 days mean that you have only 4 entire weeks + 5 days of vacation, right? That’s really disappointing compared to what others offer and my current job too here in Munich…😞 Any chance it will change soon?

Great video. I just wonder let's say you live in Munich, but are based out of Frankfurt. When commuting, does the airline pay for the plane ticket from MUC to FRA and back. Or do pilots need to pay that out of their own pocket?

I think pilots are required to live within a certain distance from their main operating airport (Like within a 90 minute drive away)

Adding a related question: If your reserve day becomes a standby day the evening before and you need to drive to Frankfurt, do you receive any kind of discounted (a good enough one let’s say - like a “Schmerzgrenze”) in hotels? Or would it just be smarter to have a room rented in Frankfurt? Cheers! ✈️

@mrwasgehtsiedasan8651 @pottkind88 Tatsächlich hat Pascal in dem Simulator Video mit dem Flug von Frankfurt nach München beim pushback auch aus Spaß "In german we say: Mashallah" gesagt. Ich habe es aus Spaß also einfach wieder aufgegriffen und nicht hier einfach so in die Tasten gehauen. Also entspannt euch erstmal und tragt euren Frust woanders aus. LG
