Hello again. I am a big fan of science and technology so I decided to make this video about Re:ZERO's technology, disputing (what I believe) to be a common misconception. Also the thumbnail kinda lied (its not pretty easy) its just medium difficulty if you look a bit deeper.

In the current era of the Re:Zero world the use of magic stones for mundane tasks has become increasingly more common. It's thanks to this that the technological development is above that of a medieval setting. These are minerals formed from mana that generally possess an elemental affinity (although they can also be just pure mana). They function as stoves, clocks, fertilizer, etc. There are many unspecified uses but I guess that when we see technology that shouldn't be in a medieval setting it's implied that it works with magic stones. While Roswaal has been a great influence in this field throughout all of his lives, the world in general has developed this type of technology. This can be seen for example in the city of Costuul (one of the 5 great cities of Lugunica) having a whole industry dedicated to the creation of magical tools.

Also in Lugunica there are things like a hamburger or a newspaper (instead of photos they use drawings), there is also a mirror media that works like a telephone. The world of Re:Zero holds many more secrets than you might think. Just wait for season 3.○(•♡•)○

Early 19th century I'd say. They have advanced manufacturing, printing, gas lamps, and businesses conglomerates. Earliest you could push it is 17th century, if you shuffle some advancements around due to magic. An absolutely massive one is refrigeration. Emilia's camp is sponsored by Big Milk, and any kind of large scale dairy distribution is only possible if you can keep it cold. That's my take at least, time to watch the video!

Honestly it could very best be explained as ReZero world basically being the same but with magic, so some technologies weren't needed and therefore the foundation of some other invention weren't created. Which is why plumbing appears to be easily available(not only in Roswal Mansion, but also in public bathrooms that are reserved for demihumans who just lost the demihunan war a few decades ago) But some other technologies are replaced by magic. To get rid of waste and transport water it would be better to use plumbing rather than a lot of magic. And when many people in battlefield are sound barrier breaking at minimum guns would also loose effect and not be invested in
@user-wq3vc9bg3n
@user-wq3vc9bg3n Ай бұрын
Well, technically guns would have effect if they would be massively implemented into army. From old Tappei's perspective heavy weaponry like tanks and machine guns would stop working on calibre of old Wilhelm. With years, Tappei's view on power levels improved and scales increased, so heavy weaponry likely would stop working on lower levels, like Heinkel or even Jamal, for example. But still, in all-out massive battles of fodders against fodders such an improvement would work pretty good. On other hand, no one would try to make such weapons. Its expensive, hard and doesn't give that much of a profit. Its better to invest same amount of money and time into creating some new useful magicreation tool.

@@user-wq3vc9bg3n The problem with guns has always been how long they took to get going. Early guns weren't that good and people only really used them because the sound had a morale effect on the enemy and the fact that they could piece armor pretty consistently. People saw potential in them and continued to develop them but getting from the first gun in europe to a bolt action took 500 years and that was all the while their competition was bows and crossbows. I could see guns developing in re zero(because not everyone had innate talent) but development would be slowed by the fact magic was innately much more powerful than bows and crossbows

Great video! There’s not enough discussion about the history and culture of the Re:Zero world out there. There’s a lot of neat and sometimes seemingly anachronistic details that make it stand out and hint at some deeper truths about the world. You did a great job with your analysis!

I’d give it somewhere between 1830-1850. If we accept that this is a world in which firearms haven’t been invented (at least not in terms of small arms for infantry soldiers) then the anachronistic military technology we see makes plenty of sense. Everything else makes sense for the first half of the 19th century.

2:36 I agree seeing an advanced intention even by the rich will move the scale forward and seeing a primitive device used by commoners will not set things back. I'm a bit surprised that late 1950s was so behind the curve! This was decades after Queen Victoria, the time the British Empire reached its max and I guess the benefits never translated to rural commoners.

imo re zeros technological era is around pre ww2, though there are artefacts/metia which have properties reminiscent of modern day technology and sometimes even more advanced. That said, most of re zeros technology isnt based off of science but instead based off of magic, while metia is a combination of both. since the existence of metia is most likely echidna/flugels doing its possible that 400 years ago society was much more advanced and metia was commonplace, but after satellas great disaster and the disappearance of flugel and echidna there was a technological regression. Only the witch cult and witch related locations such as sanctuary, priestella, pleiades watchtower (and possibly the crystal palace?) seem to still utilise metia.

Firestone is more akin to dynamite or gunpowder than coal. It is an explosive that packs quite a punch. I believe stones used in lamps is a different stone than firestone. Also primitive firearms would definitely be a bad choice of weapon when you consider trained soldiers can move near supersonic speeds with spirits and magics help. Vollachia which is significantly more primitive than Lugunica had soldiers capable of shrugging off stab wounds. With limited range of primitive weapons long time of loading and lack of punch i can see enchanted swords to be a better choice. In my opinion Lugunica-> 1700s Vollachia-> 1500s Kararagi-> Edo period Japan Gusteko-> Who knows

Literally it's one of the more lackluster magic systems in fiction, which tries to be simple but leaves many spells as unexplained
@Lucas61616
@Lucas61616 14 күн бұрын
It's not that complex, the only curveballs are with spells that either aren't yet described, or have limited appearances, such as in side stories. Od is your life force and can be consumed to spell cast in an emergency, at the severe cost of shortening your life span. Meanwhile, mana is what you're supposed to use and is simply found naturally in the atmosphere. You cast magic either through your gate, which is an actual organ in your body that takes in mana, or using a contract with a spirit as a medium. From there, all that really needs to be understood is that magic incantations scale in strength upwards from the base spell name, to El, to Ul, to Al. That's really all you need to understand the magic system in Re:Zero as far as *casting* is concerned. Your only real exceptions come from how some spells haven't been used or described yet, and how some techniques are unique. Crusch's air blade strike who's name I can't remember is one such technique and obviously doesn't have any variants. Stuff like that, or how one spell type has an "Ol" variant we don't yet know much about. The only other thing of importance is that new magic spells *can* be created. Echidna in life once made a truly mighty spell that literally rains "stars from the sky" upon the opponent. (Presumably just asteroids and small meteors rather than literal stars on account of how an actual star would simply be the end of the world)

The problem with how the series is viewed is not quite a completly marketing team problem. The autor is just as focused in that topic as the marketing team is. Reading his books it was pretty clear that he focused a lot in the female characters and their sexualization. If he was not specially intending this to be a main attraction of his series, he at least was completly on board with this japanese trend widely affecting his IP.
@lordtouchme77

"Focused a lot on female characters and their sexualization" okay you are tripping and never watch/read re zero if you think that way. The author never show any real fanservice during the entire main series (except for frederica on s2 but that is to show her transformation into beast form) and thats because this series are pretty tame when it comes to fanservice. Unless you are talking about "few" characters like liliana, shaula or priscilla which is not 100% true since both shaula and priscilla is a serious characters with depth and tragic backstory, and priscilla design fits her personallity really well. While liliana is fair point but she is also happened to be the worst character on this series so idk what are you smoking. Also what do you mean he only focused on women when we got good side characters like garfield, otto, rosswald, betelgeuse and even the main characters subaru himself with good character developments? So maybe instead of the author maybe you are the one who only focused on the female characters? So you need to stop the cap, because its understandable if you just want to be a troll instead of saying nonsense.
@DarthLeuan
@DarthLeuan Ай бұрын
@@lordtouchme77 no no, Im not trolling at all. I'm talking purely from what I read from the autor itself. He talks numerous times about the physical traits and clothes of the female cast in that way. But you seem to have extrapolated my point a bit. The fact that I say he was thinking about the sexualization of his female characters and was on board with the japanese "heroine" culture does not mean that was the entire focus of the story. It's only a side fact, that explains the sensation this anime gives to strangers. Obviously all characters are given attention in every aspect. Character deepness is not dependant of not being sexualized, and the tone of the anime is clearly not a typical "fan service anime" one. I'd say the anime and the novels have come out fairly unscratched from the bad consequences of that japanese culture, but you can only realize that if you actually watch/read the story ':D

Now apparently I obviously, clear as day, have not watched the anime nor read the novels. Re:zero is the anime I rewatched the most, probably. I've watched it from start to finish 8 times already, which is probably not a lot compared to other people, but I really don't use to rewatch stuff I like. Im currently reading the novels, and that's why I have that topic fresh in my mind. I still have not reached any point the anime has not covered, but there is enough writer's notes already to hold my point. You either didn't read those parts or are so used to that japanese approach to female aesthetics that you didn't even noticed. I will try to search for English translations and make some screenshots, if I get bored.
