While the starter was off you might have tried to hook jumper cables to the starter to see if the starter motor spins and the bendix drive fully engages. I also agree with a post earlier to open the injector lines to make sure its not hydro locked and may help spin the engine. Don't give up on it, you are close to success.

I love watching the videos and had high hopes for this one once it broke loose. One thing you may want to think about though is pulling the injectors to pour the marvel mystery oil into the cylinders that away you know for sure that all cylinders get oil into them and then leave them out until after you have spun the motor over a few times so that you do not hydro lock the motor.

Hank just a tip I hope might prove useful in the future is that each individual valve guide has a cup shaped seal with a hole in the center on it for the valve stem. This stops oil from the rocker assembly and case migrating down the valve stems and getting burnt which can cause carbon build up and emission problems. Because of that, if the valve stem seals are in half decent condition they should and probably will prevent any lubricating oil sprayed on them from penetrating into the guide much less down to the head of the valves so you probably wasted your time and some oil doing it. The only place that lubricating oil should have gone is straight down the oil return drains into the sump. Judging by the discoloration around the bottom of the hole corroded through the exhaust manifold, that engine was exposed to some water penetration so there probably wasn't a rain cover on the exhaust at some point. If that is the situation it should be the exhaust manifold that gets removed rather than the intake because the exhaust is where the water would have entered.

You may be able to turn the crank backward, away from the stuck point by using the fan, now that it is beginning to free up. If you Can turn it backward that way, it might just take several tries to get it past the tough part. Also, you might also try using more batteries to give that starter a little more punch.

Do a voltage check when the starter is engaged. it may need the 3 batteries and clean connections to have enough power available for the starter to do its job. Great video, hope Wiley's back is not to sore. That fall could have been a lot more serious.

Thanks for the great video again sorry that it didn't work out this time you're still the best one tip I can give you if you only put in the bolds of the starter and let them stick out a little and you're laying something across that little braker bar you move you're leverage point higher so wiley doesn't fall any more I hope he has no problems after the fall and also try to spray liquid wrench in ware it was hard to get the mystery oil in that stuff works on any thing Thanks Hank and Wiley for a other entertainment video can't wait to the next one God bless 🙌

Easiest un-stick I ever had was an Oliver 60 that sat several seasons with the exhaust uncovered. Couldn't budge that engine no matter what we tried. I bought a gallon can of CRC-556, used some vacuum tubing to siphon the cylinders full (nasty tasting stuff), gave it 24 hours. Next day, pulled the starter, put a bar in the flywheel and broke it loose with one hand. Worked it back and forth until I got a full turn on the crankshaft, and started putting it together. Drove it out of that farm lot that day, after cleaning the ignition components and de-gunking the carb. And replacing the oil in the crankcase. Drained about a gallon of 'clear' water off the bottom before getting any oil. Those injectors look like they'd be easy enough to pull. I'd consider trying that approach again.

I was thinking as y’all were pouring the MMO into the intakes that y’all were going to hydro lock it. Next time pull the injectors out and try to spin it over which will blow any excess fluid out of the cylinders. I’m glad that Wylie wasn’t seriously hurt during that fall.

Where the crankshaft pulley is bolted on, try to use an impact grade socket on a long breaker bar. I used that on a CJ-2A Jeep (1948) that was locked up, it freed it. (L- 134 ci cast iron flat head) and, Righty tightly turns it counter clockwise, the direction you want.

The Austin-Western Pacer 100 and 200 all wheel drive. It could drive straight up a vertical wall. They came with Detroit Diesel engines the 100 had a 4-71 & the 200 had a 6-71. ChiefD

Suggestion. Go to Harbor Freight and get a one gallon garden sprayer. Remove tip end of hose, Will give you 1/4 inch hose to get into tight spots like that intake port, or sparkplug hole. Different sprayers for different fluids.

worked on galion motor graders in viet nam had the privaledge of putting one back together after it hit a land mine blew battery, one wheel , chain drive air cleaner and misc stuff had a 4-71 detroit in it

With an open stack the odds are WAY against running without a LOT of work and worry. And Austin/Western was the only all wheel drive (including the front end) for a long time. Probably a lot more now. I'm out of the diesel loop and into shorter grass mode. Listen to Tommy, Gina and Wiley and GBWYall!

Putting Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders is great for a gas engine, but may have a negative effect on a Diesel because of the compression being higher, you may have hydrolocked the cylinder that got the most. I wish you well guys, I hope Wiley isn't too badly hurt after falling onto that sharp corner, I know it was embarrassing for sure 🙂

Its behaving like a tractor I acquired thats cyllinders were full of rainwater. Turn over a bit but then locked up TIGHT.I pulled the plugs and got a bath.Like the other comments say,pull the injectors and it'll likely spin over.Its not stuck. Most diesels have very little room to allow the lubricant to go.A tablespoon full might even be too much.The amount you put in? way too much.It will leak down but could take quite awhile.Pull the injectors and let er spit it out.I came out well with my tractor,its still running great.

Those belts are in good enough shape to see if you can get it running, then if you get it running, then change or replace anything that needs it. Also take out the aircleaner to let it breath, as the ones in it are no good garranted. It's not like there is a huge dust problem to worry with. Then as with everything else that needs changing, get a set to put back in it.

Well, it looks like the rocker arm should come off, then the injectors. Squirt some mystery oil in injector pockets, and tap on each valve with a soft mallet to unstick any valve. Take the fan blade off, get an impact socket on the crankshaft bolt, and turn it clockwise with at least a 2-foot black iron cheater pipe. Repeat this until it moves somewhat freely. Soak injectors in clean fuel, take injector lines off blow them out with air, and spray some brake cleaner through them. Drain the fuel tank, replace fuel filters, and blow the line to the fuel tank out. Clean out the water separator if it has one. Look up the valve settings. Replace fan belts, and check the radiator for water, rust color, and oil traces. If ok then top it off if needed. Make sure all batteries are at full charge and load test them. Have some heavy-duty jump cables handy, and a can of good starting fluid too. Replace air filters, and check for critters in there. Give it another shot after all that.

Good attempt but a few mistakes- pouring oil into intake without pulling injectors will hydraulic it - if you see a machine thats been parked up with no rain cap on exhaust stack means its going to be tough, in the future I would suggest to pull the injectors or glow plugs, pour oil or rust eater into cylinders and let soak as long as possible -good luck on the next one

Each cylinder has a cup and each cup has an injector and a glow plug. Hence the reasoning for three batteries. Pull the injector or whole cup but try not to mess with the glow plugs. IH loves there pre-heat but if it's working don't use either, KABOOM, head gasket eater. What I've done in real cold weather was instead of using glow plugs is to heat the intake manifold and head with a torch for a few minutes and a small puff of da-crack really helps if it ain't been run in awhile.

Maybe the Marvel Oil has hydro-locked the engine at tdc. You could check each valve by pressing down on each of them with a screwdriver, or even a hammer. You could try removing all the injectors if water or oil is in the cylinders..

Y’all should invest in a borescope camera that you can Bluetooth to your phone . It’s a small camera that bends and flex’s so you could take out a fuel injector and point it in the cylinder and see if their is rust buildup in the cylinders . I got one you can Bluetooth to my phone camera for $20 off of Amazon.
