I used a ccm rocker hook, bugger was really heavy and flexed amazingly in the early 70’s. it was probably the best for me at the time. I also used a straight stick like Dave Keon for stick handling and back hand shots, until I was 13 years of age.

From a practical sense, I understand that decent new gear gives you a better chance at having more flex, the correct blade curve, etc. but how much of it really comes down to the shooting technique and good strength and conditioning? Same for decent skates vs. top of line skates (if they are both using LS2 blades, how much difference is there?)

Yes, Titans were made in Finland. I think there's a documentary here in youtube about it. If I remember correctly it was some Master of Science - engineer who thought he could make a good hockey stick using early sort of composite stick materials wood stregthened by fiber glass, his background was manufacturing sports equipment but mainly (cross country) skis. Sticks being good at the time were elevated by their colorful / red theme at a time when sticks were mainly unfinished wood without graphics. edit: 3:27 funnily enough I think CCM purchased Titan so they did look in to the "ultra glass" 😂😂
@iamwesterncanadian5702 жыл бұрын
I used the Red Titan before the white one came out. I think they discontinued it because it was hard to break. The 1st generation Red one was used and endorsed by Gretzky in 1980-81.

So sad my playing days were ended by an injury before the Carbon Fiber era. On the other hand, the prices would have bankrupted me. Got to handle a stick and lift a pair of new skates. Just one of my old Bauer 2000's weighs twice as much as a pair of new skates and a stick. You people are so lucky (and probably broke).

those aluminum sticks were sick but the best stick i ever used was a nike shaft with an easton carbon blade. this is like the last year before the old times ended and before synergy's took over.
@brokl2610 ай бұрын
My son used the same set up. Couldn’t pry the Bauer shaft out of his hands. He broke two blades in one game and had to get a blade from a teammate and it was an Easter blade already taped. Never looked back. He said he loved how rigid the Easton blade was. I can’t remember the flex of his shaft. (Nobody get dirty) He had a Mission and one other stick but he never liked either.

I played goal, we didn't even get to have a curve in our stick so trying to score a goal by using your leg as a fulcrum and flipping the puck was the only option, I was lucky to get it through the neutral zone. Goalie sticks didn't have curved blades until the mid-80s, Patrick Roy (1986) is the first goalie I recall using a curved blade.
@ll78682 жыл бұрын
I started out playing defence at 6 years old, only scored 6 goals over 4 years so sniping was never a thing for me. I could hit the puck pretty hard, just couldn't aim to well like Foggy Nelson when he played for the Mighty Ducks.

Same, also had Sherwood and Christians. The "M9" was my blade of choice for most sticks. Started with a Northland with a straight blade, then moving on to Canadians, 6001 & 7001, before moving onto aluminum. A bunch of years back, went into the pro shop at local rink and asked the two "kids" that were working there, if they still sold replacement blades for the aluminums? The look on their faces was priceless, as in, what planet are you from? Oh, by the way, I was there to finally replace my precious 651 Vak Tacks.

I think there is an argument here for wearing something for the "essence." Since we live in a throw away culture the thought of repairing a worn out jersey or stick is not really at the forefront of players mind. But I like to keep vintage trinkets for the history, the story! Also to remember we are living off of the momentum of those that came before us! #blackhistoryhockey #blackhistorymonth #hockeylife #BHM

all due respect the the greats of history but if you put modern goalies in their nhl they probably get 1/2 as many points. not to mention the fact that the skill difference between the top and bottom players that used to be massive isn't really that big anymore. they were great players for sure but they are also a product of their time.

Using a good 30$ wood stick, no stupid bouce on the blade with a pass. On the ice on faceoff, it stick down hard to lift, Use rigth curve and ou grind the ice like a knife. I hate stickhandling with flex one piece stick, it's basicly trying to control a "unsteady puck" bounce.
