Can we trust the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Playoffs? | Gyro Step Podcast

The Milwaukee Bucks have had an uneven week, starting with an outstanding blowout of the Oklahoma City Thunder, followed by back-to-back tough losses against the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans, before Milwaukee notched a nice with without Damian Lillard against the Atlanta Hawks on the road. With so much inconsistency on display, Ti Windisch and Rohan Katti had a simple question broken into several parts to discuss: do they trust the Bucks heading into the NBA Playoffs?
Ti and Rohan broke the question into pieces, first deciding they definitely trust Giannis Antetokounmpo no matter what before then diving into Dame Lillard, Khris Middleton, the big rotation of Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis, Malik Beasley as the fifth starter, the bench unit of Pat Bev, Pat Connaughton, Jae Crowder, and Portis (plus A.J. Green), Milwaukee's place in the standings pre-Playoffs, and finally the coaching performance of Doc Rivers. Finally, Ti and Rohan shared if they currently trust the Bucks to win a championship.

A very important correction. Giannis really did not fade in that Lakers game, nor did he fade in the pelicans game. What actually happened, is Doc Rivers played Giannis 12 minutes in the third, and sat him six minutes in the fourth. During those six minutes, the lead or comeback, both times dwindled. in both of those games, Damian Lillard controlled the ball, was on ball, was the primary ball handler in the fourth quarter. In both games Giannis got less than three touches after subbing back in at the six minute mark. So, we really need to stop acting like giannis had any control over what happened in that quarter. He played his part by rebounding and playing elite defense, but if Damian does not pass him the ball, Giannis cannot score the ball. It’s that simple.

Giannis had either 3 or 4 consecutive turnovers in the fourth quarter of the Lakers game. It was not all on him, but he definitely faded vs his performance earlier in the game.

@@WatchGSPNmy point is that the lack of productivity wasn’t so much ability/matchup as it was poor rotations & facilitation. Giannis was rolling through the 3rd & should’ve come in sooner in the 4th. SAME ROTATION for him bs pels. In the hawks game, he came in @ 9 mins rather than 6 which I think helped his rhythm. But in retrospect 90% of what I typed up there is false as it pertains to the lakers game-but true for the pels! It did seem like giannis had a ton of open look opportunities vs the lakers in the 4th but the resulted instead in that weird pass off to khris or Beasley or basically anybody *other* than giannis at that point in the game. I think giannis cannot adjust back into Damian’s “pace” when he returns at the 6 min mark. He plays a faster game. Similarly, I think Damian struggles with the fast transition pace 😬

Bucks are now ranked the 14th best defense and the 5th best offense. Last season the Nuggets were 15th and 4th respectively. Obvious this doesn't necessarily translate to a dominant championship win, but fascinating nonetheless.

I do not trust this team at all. Feel like bigger guards are gonna bully Dame on both ends and limit his ability to impact games. Beasley and Middleton getting blown by a lot, inconsistent shooting off the catch and Giannis trying to dunk over 3 defenders. That's what i see coming.

If this evaluation were about another player, said player would be benched/traded. The Lilliard trade has been a dud. Dame doesnt want to be a Buck. He only wants to be the lead dog. Dame had the keys for a decade with no success. Dont bet the farm on this team.
