@@huxbux I got out of the hobby cuz I was in it from 88 to 95. So I'm part of the junk wax era. I just started collecting again last year. I am absolutely floored at how the hobby has changed in my absence of some 28 years

@CaptShriver My story is pretty similar. Collected during the 80s and 90s. A few years back I was moving and came across my cards buried in boxes in a closet, and got back into it. I too was shocked prices. In 2022, I assumed there'd be a some price regression post boom. I'm still waiting.

Wow, Panini and Fanatics are truly ripping us off. I see many people leaving the hobby just like in the 90's. You get only 20% of value in the opened product.

Optic is tough. The $30 tag is intriguing but the hits are tough to come by. Waiting for Mosaic retail. Hopefully it’ll appear soon.

I never expect to make my money back, but it's not unreasonable to want 50% in value back. It's just not going to happen these days.

i posted on Redditbasketball cards but i bought a case of Optic blasters glitter. basically 20 boxes sealed. My thought process was would there be a guarantee phazes aka a case hit? Or would there be any checkerboard? How many number cards? Conclusion was no Phazes from the case (20 box), only 5 number cards. Of the 5 number cards one of them was a blue signature series auto number card, an insert my house lime gold, blue glitter and some other card i dont remember. So yeah, even buying a case doesnt guarantee a phazes or checker board.

People are still shocked by losing money busting wax, but then keep buying wax. 😅 I really wish there was more proper competition in the space.

I'd hope everyone knows it's a losing proposition, but that's the point of the series. And for sure, competition would do wonders for the hobby. Sadly, that's no happening anytime in the future.

You may have to go all the way down to the value packs at Family Dollar, $1 a pack plus tax, for this year's Donruss basketball, chasing the yellow parallel. People were paying $40 for a Wemby and the other top rookies. Question, while you are comping the cards, do you think you might get more selling them? It would be interesting to see if you liquidated all the cards you got from the rip.

@@huxbux Either as a lot or may be too tough to individually sell them. Love your PSA reveals. I just submitted my first 20 cards. 16 baseketball and 4 baseball. I started with 40 and spent about 8-10 hours going over them. I bought the kit from amazon with the centering tool, magnifying glass and micro fiber cloth. So needless to say i can't wait to get see the results. I stream on whatnot and plan on doing a reveal on there

@jorycener8633 It's an interesting idea. Never tried out whatnot personally, but I've been thinking about it more and more. Sounds like your going to do well on your sub. If you screened out half the cards, means you're being particular. If I had to guess, my "no" rate is about the same. Gonna have to let me know how you do on it.

Question.... I pulled a Ja Morant bomb squad red/green numbered 25/ 75 the other day. My question is are those numbered bomb squad cards with the color are those CASE HITS?? I also pulled out of donruss, a purple the rookies purple numbered card. Is that also a CASE HIT?

Honestly ripping boxes is not as big a loss as people make it out to be. By itself it’s a total waste of money but with grading you always have a shot at making profit. Also you pull a lot of rookies that could pan out in a couple of years ala Brunson, Halliburton and SGA. Time will tell if you really lost money my friend.

Agreed. I've started doing more grading this year and if it wasn't for that, I don't know if I'd still be ripping. And for sure with NBA rookies it takes time. 3-4 years. For this season, I'm expecting 1-2 rookies from 2021 to take the leap.

@@huxbux I ripped a bunch back in the 90s to 2000s desperately searching for Eric Lindross/Shaq/Drew Bledsoe and inserts. 5 years ago. I found my star and rookie non inserts shoebox that I couldn’t sell yet at the time, and found a few Brady RCs (press pass) a few Lebron topps and about 25 Kobe Fleer/upperdeck/skybox base RCs and a bunch of RCs of Tim Duncan Allen Iverson and Ray Allen and of course some Shaq Bledsoe and Lindross. I sold most but still have atleast two of each.
