We were discussing about the topic how can we perform our daily devotional activities like doing Harinam, Sandhya Vandana, bhoga,Arti etc. in the case of birth or death occurred in the family and should we change our sacred thread or not during this period especially when we go to crematory.
One of our sister sent a very good question and asked me clear about the monthly periods of women (menstruation) She wanted to know whether ladies can do devotional activities during this period.
Its a very genuine question & there's nothing unnatural about it.
On this topis i want to share the thoughts of His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj. He says that HARINAM is must. We can do it in every circumstances . It does'nt matter in which condition we are whether it's day or night, pure or impure situation, auspicious or non auspicious time, pious place or even crematory but Harinam is never forbidden. Sree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has also taught and established this fact through his a young devotee Gopal that
Harinam can be done even in impure places like toilets where one can perform it mentally or quietly.
But here it is to be noted that as per our Most Revered Gurudev's version we can do Harinam but not on chanting beads ( jap mala) in crematory or grave yard and there is no need to change sacred thread after coming back from crematory. We can also perform Arti, offer bhog and Sandhya Vandana in birth and death cases in our families.
And what should a women do when she is in menstruation? In this context I want to share a little incident occurred during the Kartik month observed in Dehradun.
There was Yaam Kirtan , Arti of Supreme Lord and Prabhat pheri in the morning time. And after returning from Prabhat Pheri there was third Yaam Kirtan in the math. After that when Guruji went to His room He enquired about one of our God sister from Jullandhar whose name was Vishnupriya {she was unmarried at that time but now she has been married in Delhi}. Guriji asked me that I did'nt see Vishnupriya in Prabhat Pheri today morning, I replied i did'nt notice, So Guruji asked me to go and check about her , as there were very few rooms to stay in Dehradun math so every one was accommodated in nearby places. Vishnupriya was staying in one of our Param Guruji's disciple Chajulal ji's house. So i went there and asked her , sister ! you didn't come to parbath pheri today? She replied yes i couldn't go because it's forbidden for me to go to temple in this menstruation period. Then I told her that Guruji was asking about you and calling you. She asked whether it's good to go to Him in such a situation . Then I advised her to follow Srila Gurudev's instructions at the topmost. But we should make a list of all related queries regarding this situation and make it clear today from Srila Gurudev. It would be better for all of us in the future also. Hence Vishnupriya agreed and did accordingly. Then we went to Srila Gurudev's room and i did sashtang pranam and she did panchang pranam to Guruji and i said that she was in menstruation period that's why she didn't come to Prabhat Pheri today. Then Guruji replied there is nothing wrong to go to Prabhat Pheri in this situation. Then she asked Gurudev , can i do dandwat pranam to You in this condition? Srila Gurudev replied with smile that you already did it. We should always do dandwat parnam to Vaishnavas on seeing them . After that she asked can i go to temple also to offer my obeisances to the deities ? No, we shouldn’t go in temple in this condition. Can i attend your katha? Guruji said in affirmative that there is no problem in attending Harinam Sankirtan and Harikatha but you shouldn't sit within the sight of the deities but a little bit far from there. She also asked can we do temple Prikarma? Guruji said how can we do prikarma because in order to do prikarma you have to come in front of the deities. She asked can we do Harinam? Guruji said we can do Harinam but not on beads (Jap mala). Then she pointed out it is mandatory for us to do fixed number of rounds daily. How to comply with this. Guriji replied that you may check the duration of time for completing your rounds daily and fix the time accordingly or count on the fingers with the help of clock. Srila Gurudev wanted us to do Harinam compulsory but not on beads under above circumstances. She asked can we do sandhaya vandana? Guriji replied we cannot sit on sandhaya vandhana aasan in such impure condition. So Guruji replied all the questions so nicely in detail and make aware us that it does not matter in which situation we are but we must do HARINAAM.
We will also continue this discussion tomorrow and if anyone has query regarding this he may ask.

I am a women. And i need a real explanation for this that why can't I make prasadam and involve in poojas during my periods? As everyone knows that this is not the question of impurity but the comfort that a women need in these days. We should really thing over of all this.. These type of thinking are ruining our society as most of the women take this as agod's word.

True ma'am !! One of my relatives were saying that if any menstruating women touches anything it might become impure. They get naga dosha and all. And they mentioned some superstitious and all!!! I really got enraged by this. Donno being a women one has to support another woman.. But they are only hanging into old system. Ridiculous. Also our society treats widow, few women as apashagun too!!! It's really cheap mentality

Things you are explained here i m completely disagree, if you are telling Sri prabhupada told this then all i can say you all are very orthodox and because of your this type of misinformation many women still thinking that it's a taboo. What do you mean by not to sit infront of God , we all are child of God , when he make us in the Womb of our mother he alredy know how life cycle goes, sorry very bad explanation.

Mei brihaspati Ka mantra and Surya Ka mantra Ka Jaap Karti hun .. Plz ye bataye ki monthly cycle mei mei use continue kaise Rakhu kunki agr iss time pe pooja nhi karte hn toh 5-6 din Ka gap aa jayega toh kya vo chalega ?, Kunki Surya Ka mantra Kam se Kam 2-3 mahine lagatar Karne ko Bola tha aur isme toh gap aa jayega tab kaise Karu? Matlb MERI daily pooja Ka phal vi-phal toh nhi hoga?..... also brihaspati vaar Ka brat iss time pe kaise kare?

These people need to understand if periods are so unpure, why god gave us this in the first place?? it's a natural process, the same perioids which they tell us not to enter temple is the same where a baby takes birth from if this is unpure, they all of us are unpure, a person carrying this type of thought is also unpure

Prabhat means morning and pheri means round...Hence in a morning some saints do harinamsankirtan in selective area which refers to prabhat pheri.
