I enjoyed the explanation about "applications." I have tried to convey this to EBMAS or IWTA folks with no success. I guess I did not explain as well as you did here.
@TheKungFuGenius4 ай бұрын
No need to convince anyone of anything. When you try to tell “EBMAS” or “IWTA” (or any adherents to an association) anything, you’re making a small error in conversation. You are trying to convey something you understand as logical and communicate that in a helpful way. Regardless of your intentions THEY are hearing “your teacher is wrong” and no one wants to hear that, especially with the strong in-group and out-group think of most WT people. It’s way easier and more effective to build up your own students than to “fix” others.

Amusingly enough, rather than dealing with a punch ... I have realised that it is more along the lines of dealing with who is delivering it ... Most hobbyists deal with other hobbyists... but a professional ring fighter is a totally different person to deal with. And Magic hands does sound like a Mage / Magician's stage name ... As for Obscure Styles ... I almost always find that those tend to have ingenious or rather deranged ways to resolve certain issues and found out why they are less popular after a while.
@talentbong74466 ай бұрын
Anyway, just to elaborate further on what I felt about Obscure Styles ... I have examples of both ends of the spectrum. On the more commonly seen end, I have literally observed the rise and extinction of the "Pony Head Boxing" style, which is basically conjured by an unnamed friend who had too much time on his hands and founded several "styles" that distorts history. At the opposite end of the spectrum, a certain Obscure branch of a popular style has supposedly popular for stand-up grappling, but apparently relies heavily on striking rather than grab.

Other than that "non-Mainstream" group that did not forgot that Akemi exists since hitting someone makes them less resistant to locking. A funnier recent example came from KZbin, where a bunch of Popular content creators felt that a certain unique melee implement is "stupid" and doesn't "work in real life"... most of their examples have a poor leverage point or very narrow handle. While the "idiot" who made it work, used it in the same way as certain traditional Asian styles ... hinting that they literally lacked exposure to differing body mechanics that the exception might have encountered or more likely accidentally stumbled upon.

Alex, would we have ever heard of Ip Man if there had not been a connection with Bruce Lee?
@JKDVIPER6 ай бұрын
Yes. I don't know if I'm right either. But, from what I know. IPMAN was only one of many big shots who brought wing Chun to the world. Perhaps, arguably the best. Most popular definitely. 😁💯👊

Robert W Smith made a list of '10 commandments' for boxers in his little "Secrets of Shaolin Temple Boxing" book. No idea about its origins. Smith probably made it up himself based on aphorisms he picked up.

Guys , I had a student from Keith K lineage move to Australia many years ago. One of my students brought him to train. Great guy and greats skills. One evening he opened discussion about WC verses WT & VT and their differences . I thought these were merely the English / Western interpretations of the Chinese to western translation. Are these lineages all written the same in Mandarin or Cantonese ?
@DrTzeus6 ай бұрын
Same characters in Chinese, but there are two different versions of those....the English spelling is important because it denotes the set of mottos and chi sau preferencesthe teacher uses, a well as grading etc.

Sifu, Like yourself I am a Bruce Lee fan and I have always held him in high regard and as a Martial artist since 1962 I have tried to live my life by abiding by a Bushido code of conduct I don’t drink or smoke and never have I done any drugs, now as a teenager I have tried cigarettes and cigars never pot, and have gotten drunk which is why I don’t drink ever being sick and not being in control as far as drugs go I never wanted to be part of that scene, now that we know about the drug letters people are tending to say that Bruce was an addict, now going by what I have read about him throughout the years and what people who knew say about him, I would think that he used them for recreational use or medicinal use perhaps to ease his back of which I can relate, what is your opinion do you think was addicted to drugs or used them recreational and or for medicinal use? Love the podcast great show as usual! Ush!
@WholeCosmos6 ай бұрын
all addict's claim medicinal use. LOL. Look at how he looked in Enter the dragon vs the 60s. he was over training and overusing cocaine he had zero body fat stores. The body needs a small reserve of fat energy when it is sick to recover properly. healthy people aren't ripped to shreds... he looked anorexic.

If Bruce Lee never went to Hollywood, he would have never developed the condition that caused his early death, and we might have just now discovered him on TikTok.

Definitely modified, the traditional one hasn’t been released by the sole inheritor of the ENTIRE STYLE.

Oh smack. ☺️👈🏻💯what up fellas. 👀peep game. Just saw this. 😎🙏demonetization 😬✊yikes. Watch the H bombs DRIZZY. 😆you don’t know how much this show rules. The interplay between you two guys is hysterical. 😛I added something to the JONG SETS that might interest you. When we do TAN DA and we teach in with that palm. If we time it just right to throw a punch with that top TAN HAND just after the TAN DA itself, it goes outside past the right outside peg let’s say. Well when you rip the cheung, just peel out a right hand PAK SAO and thread the left hand inside. Now we have a TAN DA cheung and PAK DA to train in with the TAN DA. 💡17:28 the only thing I would ever criticize wing chun people on (any of them) would be when I see them trying to punch over a punch over punch over punch. Using it too many times when we have FOOK and QUAN for that. 😂❤I hate that. You can’t always catch a punch, they aren’t straight a lot of times Na mean. I do agree that it can and should be taught/used perhaps. 😎💯 13:20 crazy, I know. The idea that we've not loved our classmates, but ❤😂they're the worst. 🤢👊😄Within your own lineage. When they spread out, they come up with all kinds of stories I'm sure. No names though right 😬🚬(SE✨RGIO) 😄👊 35:19 you know another thing THE JKD PEOPLE DO, is demostrate obviously WING CHUN moves, and tell us they're BRUCE LEE JKD, when we know that using a CHEUNG to cut in and rip a straight blast is oldschool indeed, not new JKD. One of my teachers told me FOOK SAO, why get into samantics? I said huh? Im like, that punch eats punch you use with a split entry is merely one of about 18 possible PAK SAO'S, 😬💯.43:00 this was a really good one. Bui gee was taught to me to straighten out tangles, to LOP, to point the way, to fool or use a POISON HAND. That's not a joke either. Posion hand is a FINAL BUI SAO or BUI GEE once weve gone through the CHOY and PALM SESSION. 😁💯👊48:00 such a good show. Made some key points. Real talk. Especially about distances. Pak and throat cut is more elbow on elbow range. Its closer out of bong or tan n pak. In other words, motions that swipe away n go half in are good opportunities to push and slap PAK SAO. 😁💯👊
