I ran some code to compute the best dual-type move for neutral coverage, because I thought your question was super interesting. There are no type combinations that have perfect coverage, but some come close. Here are the best ones: Flying/Ground: 1 immunity, no resistances Fire/Water: 0 immunities, 2 resistances (but they are both x0.25) Rock/Ice: 0 immunities, 3 resistances (two x0.5, one x0.25) Rock/Fairy: 0 immunities, 3 resistances (two x0.5, one x0.25) Water/Ice: 0 immunities, 3 resistances (two x0.5, one x0.25) Flying/Water: 0 immunities, 4 resistances (four x0.5) Water/Fairy: 0 immunities, 4 resistances (four x0.5) Dark/Fairy: 0 immunities, 4 resistances (four x0.5)

@@balancemaster55 Electric and Ice don't synergise as well when they're a dual-type move compared to their coverage as two separate moves. Electric/Ice is still a pretty decent combination though, with 1 immunity and 4 resistances.

10:53 I did the damage calc and it should be impossible for a lvl 25 Weavile to OHKO a lvl 23 Anorith with a 20 BP ice attack, even if the Weavile is max attack EV/IV, adamant, and +1 boosted, and the Anorith is -Def nature and 0 def iv ( max roll is 71.6%.) My guess is the Triple Axle does 40 BP 3 times (to achieve the same 120 BP) as perhaps it was easier to code that way for this rom.
@rticuno Жыл бұрын
No i've used triple axel in this rom many times and it acts as it normally does. It really is quite the mystery why it one shot there.
@Tacoassasin1 Жыл бұрын
@@rticuno Hmm, my next guess would be badge boost applying as that's still a thing in Hoenn and he already has one badge in the clip, but that's only a 1/8th increase in attack (not quite sure which stat it boosts) which shouldn't push 71.6% max roll to 100%. This is a real head scratcher.

@@rticuno Yes it was, I was using Weavile in current gen since it didn't exist in gen 3, and using ice punch and modifying the damage to 20 to simulate the first hit of Triple Axle. @shanoc5902 Жыл бұрын
Boltbeam and Edgequake as separate moves are roughly tied, as when used as seperate moves there are only 8 pokemon that aren't hit at least neutrally with both options (you could argue edgequake is better as Boltbeam can't hit Shedinja at all, but I don't think that's exactly fair). However both of these powerful combinations run into a problem... Immunities. Any ground type pokemon would be immune to a singular electric+ice move and any flying type would be immune to a ground+rock move. From what I could find there is no combination of 2 types that don't either have at least one mono-type that's resisted to the combination of the two, or one type that'd grant an immunity to one of the types, so this probably ends up devolving less into a 'perfect coverage' question and more into 'what type has the fewest pokemon' question, then you find a combination that only doesn't cover that one type.

I haven't gone over every combo, but as far as hitting a single type goes, flying/ground only hits flying for less than neutral. Dark/Psychic comes in second, with dark and fairy resisting it. Ground/Fairy has three, flying, bug, and grass, but is generally stellar at hitting things super effectively. If we're looking to hit as many type combinations as possible neutrally then ground is no good because it has an immunity. Nor is Psychic. I'm nerdy enough to comment this, not enough to go into the whole combos vs combos research.

I know I’m a few episodes behind, but I made an observation with the PC. Maybe I’m wrong, but is it possible that the reason that you didn’t get a curse was because you only had one Pokémon at the time? Or was it really just luck?
@aurochtamer Жыл бұрын
Isn't the old rule that you can hit almost everything for neutral damage with a Normal move and a Water move? That combo might be good for coverage.
@shanoc5902 Жыл бұрын
Ghost, Steel, Grass, Water, and dragon types would all resist (or be immune) to a move that's both Normal+water, unless they were also part ground or fire. Normal probably isn't a good type for this as it won't help cover for any of the other type's 'not very effective' match ups and kinda only makes you worse into various match ups. Also as seperate moves, there's a total of 33 (if you include Shedinja) pokemon that resist seperate water+normal moves, which loses out to the famous Edgequake and Boltbeam combos (only 8 pokemon resist either combination).

ok this might not be the focus of the video but the one off comment interested me - by 'low kick calculator' do you mean like a base power calculator? does the damage calculator everyone uses not calculate low kick/grass knot/heavy slam/etc move damage properly?
@connorhamilton5707 Жыл бұрын
I assume it doesn't. Based on what he was saying, the calculator he's using doesn't automatically fill in the weights of the Pokemon, meaning he has to manually adjust the power of weight related moves, and to do that he has to look up the Pokemon's weights each time. So it sounds like he's saying he'd like a calculator that automatically fills in the weights and adjusts the power by itself.
@360Chrism Жыл бұрын
I just wanted a calculator where I type the Pokemon name in and it tells me the base power of the weight move. That way I can just choose the best move quicker :P
