I could maybe have been able to pull through, if I did not make the early game so hard on myself with not using all the souls/stars, but I thought it would not matter that much later on, since soul impact and reinforcements is pretty much the only essential upgrades on this one... I think you need an easier challenge. How about beating Vengeance with premium barracks: Grim Cemetery, Deep Devil's Reef, and Swamp Thing barrack mode. Non-premium heroes only too.
