Can you beat Master Mode Terraria with Gungnir Only?

Ever since I uploaded my wand of sparking run to KZbin back in 2020, I've been getting a ton of suggestions for a Gungnir-only run. And up until recently I didn't think it would be possible and worth a video. However, as of 1.4.4 this thing has been buffed. But will it be enough to take on Terraria Master Mode? Today we're going to find out!

I do like the idea of more terra items/zenith items. I'm pretty sure Calamity adds terra bow/shortsword/staff, but it should be vanilla. Having the terra blade being something only made if you're going melee class is pretty dumb.

melee speed MASSIVEL increases the range of the little light tip thing it would have made the challenge way more manageable also it's possible to kill moon lord with a minishark in master mode, so him being the reason a run is impossible would be very unlikely

I actually really enjoy the pre hard mode parts of your run even if you have a good weapon. I think a good middle ground would be to just show a couple of the boss fights and important moments

Not gonna lie I'm kind of sad that Pre-Hardmode was entirely excluded. I would have loved a brief summary of each boss with some visuals to see how good the weapon is in that scenario!

Just being honest here, love your content always, but I would have liked to see pre-hard mode a bit - even if its the same as every other playthrough lol, something about seeing the progression is satisfying. That being said, I enjoyed the video without the pre-hard mode progression! 10/10

i would like to point out that the bottle of honey still gives you the potion sickness debuff. meaning that your method of dropping honey on yourself with the bucket preserved your potion use for a much higher restoration of health ^^ don't knock yourself too hard, you still got the strats

When using the gungnir vs the twins, you can do more damage by just using a cursed flames flask instead of an ichor one. A box also helps with phase 2 retinazer once spaz is down. Once you gain access to flasks of venom, they can help chip down duke and empress as well.

something that you could do to make turning around during the moon lord fight easier during future challenge runs would be setting up teleporters at the edges of the world so that you can just teleport behind Moon Lord when nearing the edge of the world

Honestly, Chlorophyte armour's crystal deals pretty good damage on its own, it's always weird to see it in x weapon only playthroughs since if the weapon is bad enough the crystal will deal more DPS than it. (I don't think it's enough to invalidate a run like this though, and avoiding the set bonus would be annoying.) On that note, Chlorophyte armour-only playthrough please! You'd have to have some exception for things it doesn't automatically target like Cultist summoning illusions though.

I've actually done very little in actual Hard Mode for a long while. I _have_ a world and character that's got a lot of Hard Mode gear but it was a long time ago before many of the updates were made and bosses introduced. Never fought Golem, Fishron, Queen Slime, or Empress let alone any of the post-Golem stuff. Fun little challenge vid.

Recommendation for a better plantera arena: I know *The Tunnel* + a basic square is kinda the meta, but a WAY easier arena is just the normal square but bigger and without walls. This makes plantera on par with pre-buff golem and imo new golem is harder than plantera JUST because you can no longer modify his arena but plantera can be crippled with that arena

Hey Gung, did you know you can beat terraria with weapons OR tools? I tested it out by beating each boss separately while allowing myself to cheat in items available before whichever boss I was fighting, and it is possible in normal mode. Most damage comes from mounts actually, though potions like thorns and inferno help quite a bit. I haven't tried a full game playthrough bc i'm too lazy, but it was actually more challenging than I thought and had to get pretty creative with a few of the bosses. I didn't allow the use of traps, teleporters, or anything like that. Just thought it might be an interesting sequel to the tools only playthrough. Oh, also, I could not beat empress of light, I couldnt figure out a way to beat her.

For moon lord I had to use a last ditch effort which I didn't really want to have to but I didn't really have a choice. The moonlord fight took me about 15 hours of attempts until I finally beat it. I had to max out my regen while also using an armor set that I didn't even know existed: the forbidden armor set. It spawns pylons that deal damage, so I had to abuse regen while spamming that to take out the top eye and the core, and I used the scutlix mount to take out the hands.
